RIP, too bad howard is on vacation, I would really love what he really thought. and I'm sure the howard/artie would have been great too. I have mix feelings on him, but I agree on health care.

Sad, another rich white guy has died... An Angel must be getting tortured in heaven cause of this.

His wealth and ethnicity are surely the reasons why people adored him. It would have nothing to do with his decades of public service.

A great man and leader has been lost. This better not be polticized by either side. A fighter for the people and one who truly will be missed. Dang I am sad.

And just what have you contributed to society?

touchy.

Would it not be for his wealth and ethnicity that helped him be put in that spot?

No shit? What are you trying to bring to the discussion here?
Nothing really, I have nothing against him. I was just making a comment about his death. I'm more interested in what's going to happen next with his spot.

how on earth did he live to be 77? It's a goddamn miracle
You kinda get to live long when you're well taken care of.

What do you guys think the possibilities/likelihood that he will lay in state? If so, where?

The Capitol rotunda comes to mind but I don't know what the protocol for that is, if that is only done for Presidents or what

edit: Just looked it up and judging by the list he most likely will lay in the Capitol Rotunda, but I'm just speculating

Sad stuff... I was actually watching the Fox25 news at 10 and they ran a story about him. Can't believe he died 3 hours later.

RIP Teddy.

Now that's a good question. Kennedy is a valid choice to lay in rotunda but there are so many other valid people who haven't either over the years. My guess is that it all depends on whether the Kennedy family wants it to happen. If they do it'll happen.

Hate to say it but I think politics will play a role in it. With Dem control of House/Senate and because Ted was such a strong supporter of Barack he may just get it. Not that his service on its own didn't deserve it, but I think those extra factors will play a role in it (albeit probably a small one). I expect that he will.

Yea, there's no way it won't happen if someone demands it. So I guess that real question isn't "will it happen" but instead "who will champion that cause first?" Obama? A Kennedy? Byrd? Personally I'm placing my bets on McCain, seems like the kind of maverick move he would enjoy. Plus he has spent all week talking up how great Kennedy is/was.

Long serving, famous family, his party in power; it's difficult to think different.

Dude...I couldn't stand Ted Kennedy and I pretty much disagree with everything he put forth, but that's just uncalled for.

You know, there's some serious douchebaggery going on in this thread, but even if his corpse is warm, let's not rush to completely wipe the man's record clean just because he's dead. He was good at his job (regardless of philosophical/ideological divides), but there's no need to make him out a saint based on what you saw of him on TV or read about him, especially with the elephant in the room, Chappaquiddick. We don't need to demonize everyone who disagreed with him or thought he was crooked or an asshole. But speedy character judgments in either direction are a waste of time.

come on people, despite your political stance, keep politics out of this thread. A true patriot just died. If you have no respect, post in another thread. Again, RIP.

Fuck. RIP for Ted Kennedy.

And cynically, I'm worried about health care reform even more now. I hope, hope, hope something can get done :(

Here's a guy who could really get shit done. What an incredible shame in spite of his checkered past.

He shouldn't get a pass for Chappaquiddick, but the fact that he was one of the most effective senators has to count for something. Regardless of your political beliefs, our government needs more representatives who are willing to work as hard as Teddy did.

He looked so happy when Obama was being sworn in.

And the bastard Dick Cheney is still alive. :(

Chappaquiddick wasn't exactly the worst thing he did, though, was it? Or does he get a pass for fundraising for a terrorist organisation?
