1.jpg

Splatoon is getting a soundtrack CD release in October in Japan. Called Splatune, the Splatoon original soundtrack album will come out on October 21st.

The album will have two discs, with a total of 61 tracks from the game including Splattack! (the main theme), 37 music tracks (including those from the Ver. 2.0 update, and the E3 version of Splattack!), 10 jingle tracks and 14 sound effect tracks. Of course, the music from both the Single Player and the Multiplayer components are included, along with the voice effects of both Inkling types (Boy and Girl).

The album will have two discs, and the booklets will have comments from the development staff, but also “lyrics” for the tracks with vocals. Inside, fans will also have four alternate covers for the album, based on the fictional bands from the Splatoon universe. The price will be 3 200 Yen

As a fan of both the old and newly added music. It's nice to see it get a soundtrack release.

While I couldn't be happier that Splatoon is getting an OST release (a really good looking one to boot) it's still sacrilege that Nintendo's sitting on DKCTF's OST.

37 music tracks?

Why does it feel like they're are only 5 songs in the game...

Main theme, six or so other four minute battle songs, the final push last minute, lobby selection music, the four shops, lobby waiting/equip music...yeah, even I can only come up with 14ish songs. Maybe they plan on adding some more music over the course of the next two months?

This made me curious, so I decided to go through Squid Beatz (a.k.a. sound test mode) and classify all the songs to see what the distribution was. It looks something like this:

  1. Normal Multiplayer
  2. Normal Multiplayer
  3. Normal Multiplayer
  4. Normal Multiplayer
  5. Normal Multiplayer
  6. One Minute Remaining
  7. Results Screen - Victory
  8. Results Screen - Defeat
  9. Single Player Intro
  10. Single Player Hub
  11. Single Player Stage
  12. Single Player Stage
  13. Single Player Stage
  14. Single Player Stage
  15. Single Player Stage
  16. Single Player Boss
  17. Single Player Final Boss
  18. Single Player Final Boss
  19. Single Player (I forget where this one played)
  20. Splatfest Hub
  21. Splatfest Multiplayer
  22. Splatfest One Minute Remaining
  23. Credits
  24. Stage News
  25. Booyah Base Shop Theme
  26. Multiplayer Lobby Menu
  27. Multiplayer Waiting For Match
  28. Normal Multiplayer (Added in v2.0.0)
  29. Normal Multiplayer (Added in v2.0.0)
  30. Normal Multiplayer (Added in v2.0.0)
  31. Normal Multiplayer (Added in v2.0.0)

Based on this, it would seem that, before the v2.0.0 update, there actually were only 5 normal multiplayer songs.

So potentially five more tracks that could come before October?

There are some tracks that aren't in Squid Beatz either, like the tutorial theme and the music that plays when you pick your inkling's sex/skin tone/eye color

Potentially. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that there is some music in the game not included in Squid Beatz. For example, the main Hub area has a bunch of background songs that get dynamically interleaved with each other. Most of those songs are just simple melodies, and probably wouldn't qualify as full songs to be included in a soundtrack, but I'm pretty sure there are a few more substantial missing songs, as well.

Lyrics? The debates will be put to rest.

I'll say this next bit in the hope I am proven wrong.

Missed opportunity to include the full US commercial song without sound effects (too many people know the butchered "you're a kid, you're a squid, you're a kid, you're a squid...splasplasplasplatooon"...thing)

The art from the game is amazingly great but that boxart is the most mediocre thing ever.
Even when you have great boxart designs from the madeup musical groups in the game.

Full version of the E3 main theme is making me hyped.
Always liked that a little better than the ingame one.
