Guitar Hero Live |OT| Not a Band Game

Waiting on reviews. I won't be buying it this week but hopefully at some point before the end of the year. I already have Rock Band 4 so that'll tide me over until I grab this.

Any word on if I can get the guitar by itself and then the game digitally? I don't see a game page for it on xbox.com and don't see a way to get the guitar separately.
Activision is doing a stand alone guitar pack in Europe, so I would imagine they'll make the game available digitally as well.

Wish I could, but release day embargos on a game like this are insanely anti-consumer. Would be nice to be able to pre-order shit, but as long as companies try to play games with consumers, I'll wait. Are they worried this will end up with a score under 79 on Metacritic?

Game seems solid from what little I've played, but I don't see myself picking it up before Black Friday. 42 on-disc songs and another plastic guitar that's incompatible with Rock Band is a hard sell for me, and while GHTV seems interesting, I have no interest in making a Gold subscription in order to utilize it.

I really hate the whole idea of this. This isn't Guitar Hero, this is just a casual online game and a cynical cash grab by the lousiest game company of all.

Rock Band 4, even with all the initial problems, deserves our support, not this sham of a travesty of a mockery of a music game.

In my humble opinion.

It seems to me that these days Activision does release day embargoes for most if not all their games regardless of quality.

I don't understand, what is wrong with the model this game is going for?

That GHTV thing doesn't sound too bad if you take it for what it is, but the lack of masters on there sounds like a real bummer. I dunno how good playing the tracks is gonna feel.

And if this doesn't take off like Activision wants (which is a possibility, though I don't know what their expectations are), I wouldn't put it past them to yank the service at some point.

cheat code you really should, if avaialble, list the GHTV songs on the OP, even ff its for appearances. people are already saying "omg only 40 songs"

Probably a good idea. Not entirely sure of the character limit though. I'll see how many I can fit in.

I've also been told that GH TV does NOT require PS+, and probably XBL too.

Once they decide it's a failure, they will shut down the servers and you are left with your 42 on disk songs.
I mean, at some point that's the rub with any online game. When it's offered as a service, you run the risk of external failures. Rock Band's model of weekly DLC is more secure, but ultimately offers less value. It's a matter of preference at some point.

Already got RB4.

This is on its way from Best Buy and will be here tomorrow. Reason why I jumped in were three reasons. First, After GCU and reward zone cards, game/guitar is effectively $69.99. Second, the 3x2 configuration will be a nice change from the regular formula we have had for these games in the past. Third, GH:TV will mean that I won't have to pay any extra for DLC or to play/try out new songs.

You mention "try out" but what happens if you like a song? How do you master GHTV songs?

Maybe I'm missing something about how it works. Can I take a GHTV song and play it over and over again to master it and/or go straight to a specific GHTV song?

Correct. In addition to the streaming channels, you can use Plays to play any song you want on demand. The game is pretty generous with doling out extra Plays although you can purchase them in bulk with real currency (or a 24-hour pass for $6)

hoping this lasts so GHTV can live on. I'm buying my little brother guitar hero over rock band for guitar just because the setlist is much much more for less than the jumping price. If I wanted to buy my little brother 200 songs in DLC in RB4 it would be fucking nuts for him just starting high school. But with all DLC and everything being sync'ed with everyone else its nice knowing I can play everything with him online!

Add me btw PSN!

someone make a community for this on the PS4 while your at it XD

But does each replay cost a "play" or is the song "unlocked"?

Each time you play a song on demand it costs a token, including repeating the same song. You can't just get infinite access to a song. Apparently play tokens are plentiful, and you get a load when you start the game and whenever you level up.

Whenever that may be, aren't the guitar hero 3 servers still up? This is no different with any service.
I don't know about online play, but I know for sure all of the GH dlc (from 3 to WoR) has been delisted. So while I know the dlc I've purchased has a finite lifespan, it can at least outlast the death of PS3 PSN up until my hard drive dies. With Live it's all on Activision's terms.

Lousy track record? From what I see they've made a Buzz game and two DJ Hero games. All were well received...

it only takes one look at the post history. He hates guitar hero (especially live)and is uber biased towards RB4. Yet most of us end up buying both.....hes the guy that will just shit on guitar hero.....because its guitar hero.

I totally forgot this is made by the DJ Hero guys. Man I loved DJ Hero :(

And since I mostly play PC for the last few years, I also forgot what its like to wait 4 extra days for european console releases because reasons

It being a "service" is one of my core problems with the whole thing.

One of the best games of 2009. That controller had an amazing feel to it.

I never picked up DJ Hero 2, because I was way too into Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3, at the time.

Yeah, I'm done now. Let's revisit this in about 6 months.

This is exactly why I'm giving this a try. This devhouse put out the best rhythm games of last generation, DJHero 2 being an almost immaculate sequel. GHLive's mechanics look and play less cynically than RB4's own efforts, although I'll miss bass guitar. I'm still gonna wait to see how the Wii U version is handled before I pick up a dual guitar setup, as Activision was pushing the less than quality guitars to the Wii last generation, the wiimote integration not withstanding.

Or just a really bad astroturfer. :p

Tomorrow with the game out and more imoressions, will see how things turn out.

Hopefully I'll adapt quickly, since while on the hiatus and getting closer to release of this game, I jumped back into Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero Metallica. XD

DJ Hero 2 weakest part was the music. They had a little less pure electronic music and a bit more hip hop and pop. Mechanics were better than ever though.

FSG seems to be a bunch of good guys. Hope their effort pays off.

Ah, in that case then there is no point in discussing this any further with him.

I hope this does well because the Live portion of this is amazing and works flawless. For it to go down anytime soon this game would have to be an absolute bomb.

FreeStyle also made the Wii U exclusive/launch game Sing Party. Was fun and quite colorful. One can only hope that the Wii U version was also done in-house since they already had knowledge with the Wii U.

But yeah, DJ Hero was ace and what got my interest on this day one. Even Vicarious Visions, which were rebooting this at one time has a great trackrecord.

It also showed the differences in approach, Vicarious been more on experimental and adventure games, with knowledge on porting and adding stuff to Guitar Hero Wii games was making a reboot...closer to the original games. While FreeStyle doing more music games, decided to focus on the music side of things.

By whom? Because Activision seemed to confirm it on the website. If so, I'll probably purchase the game in the near future.

Wait, what's this about GH TV and masters? No master tracks?

Nope, you're just plying along to the music video/a MP3. If you miss, the volume of the entire song goes down, like with customs.

A guy who has the game PMed me and told me he tested it with a non PS+ account and it worked, and that he asked Activision PR and they said it was not required for GH TV.

I suspect PS+ might be required for the Premium shows.

Are they sure that there isn't another account set as primary on the system with PS+?

Edit: My mistake, I missed the Activision PR bit

That is lame. I guess you get better versions of some tracks. I'm buying this purely because of DJ hero but I don't like a lot of the design in this game.

Oh cool, that's great news.

I'd wait until more people publicly own the game before we count as totally confirmed, but it does seem at this stage that PS+/XBL isn't needed. I don't think Activision/FSG have ever even said it required PS+/XBL, it was just something we'd heard from trusted sources.

Saw this come through on twitter:

http://www.shacknews.com/article/91...l-add-weezer-concert-set-from-later-this-week

"Tomorrow, it's Activision and FreeStyleGames' turn to rock out with the release of Guitar Hero Live. Activision is looking to launch the game in grand fashion with a special concert set to take place tonight, headlined by Weezer, Rival Sons, and Grizfolk. But as long as Weezer's hanging around in the neighborhood, it looks like FreeStyle will be borrowing them for some future in-game content.

A second concert will take place tomorrow at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles, in which Weezer will perform tracks off their new album. These performances will be filmed and added to the GHTV section of Guitar Hero Live as a playable music set. It should operate similar to the Avenged Sevenfold content, in that the performance should be unlockable via in-game currency."

that's pretty fucking cool

I'm so used to customs due to phase shift anyways so the whole no master track thing doesn't bother me at all.....in fact some people might prefer it over the sound cutting completely out.

love this kind of stuff!

Ohhhh.
I saw a song list last week that was really long and had some really good songs. I saw that and was like "cant believe im buying a new music game". Glad I saw the OPs breakdown of what Live and TV are and what songs come with the game.

No fucking thanks.
