Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

This scene was also pretty breathtaking to me for its realism

If you told me the malebots were live action I'd have a hard time saying you were full of shit.

visually just bonkers. and this is their first attempt on PS4. just insane.

So what happened with this dude:

?

As I said, you'll see him by the end of PS4's cycle, or on PS5.

I agree, this was the best scene. It felt very real.

I wanna play a game with these graphics and this setting where I can shoot stuff but I'm guessing this is not going to be that game.

About time they used that tech demo. I don't get the title. It might as well read, "Welcome to Detroit: The city of Androids".

Terrible name for a game. Anytime I hear anything in media naming itself "Detroit," I expect it to be a ripoff of The Wire for some reason.

Looks beautiful and the premise is intriguing though. I'm interested.

Detroit was the city that started the Android revolution from what Kara is saying in the trailer. So Detroit is where it all started. Hence why Detroit is the main title.

And it looks like Kara is the first bot designed to completely immitate a human outside of menial tasks. So the goal was to " become human ". With Kara, it looks like they succeeded.

Kara should've been black or non-white

I am so impressed by theme of game. Can anyone recommend some games or movies with similar theme?

Deus Ex series and Ex Machina is on the list

Start with the birth of scifi in the 50s and work your way from there.

Seriously though, have you never heard of I robot by Asimov? Do androids dream of electric sheep? Blade runner? 2001 a space odyssey? Arthur c Clarke? There's such a huge plethora and classics that you need to check out. Not hogwash like deus ex or ex machina

Hope it's good like Heavy Rain, right now, the best David Cage game is the one he had nothing to do with. I hope it doesn't become I Robot 2.

I laughed when I read the thread title, and laughed even harder when I understood it was about. That being said, the trailer was impressive and utterly gorgeous, with some really nice voice work. I'm in!

I love the idea behind but the setting is visualized like every other science fiction game/ movie. I'd like to see some creative and fresh stuff and not the usual design choices..

That's odd considering The Wire was set and produced in Baltimore.

Ohh man, so pumped. I know gaf hates cage, but I'm so glad he exists. And guess what gaf, every game is not an interactive movie! Even though Cage said he likes those style of games, everything is open world!

Thank god these types of games still exist!

But I'm with everyone, should have been named Kara. Also Kara's voice actress is so good.

Been a while since a game gave me goose bumps!

Dumbass name aside. (seriously, Detroit?) it does look interesting, but then again beyond look interesting too, and that ended up being just as boring as watching paint drying. so I guess I`ll just have to wait and see how this one pan's out, hopefully it's a good one.

'Human' alone would be a much better title.

Even 'Become Human' alone would be better... But Detroit: Become Human?... Maybe it's a lost in translation thing and since it's a French studio they don't realize how crazy it sounds to native speakers of the English language.

Ahhh so your argument is we don't see enough Latinos...
Yes, I am aware that the demographic trend is towards Latinos being the majority.

Someone needs to tell these people they don't have enough black people to be in a photo from downtown Detroit.....

img_69231.jpg
You showing a picture of some white people in Detroit has absolutely nothing to do with what I was talking about. I never said that white people didn't exist in Detroit or that it was hard to find white people in Detroit. What I've been saying is that it's sad that even in a city where the vast majority of the population is black that we can't even have a game that tries to match the demographics of the city.

...but seriously, keep up the fight, every time someone like you tries to find racism where it isn't, you win more and more people to your side and help keep real racism a seriously regarded topic, good job!
If me wanting more diverse representation in games has any negative effect on the discourse surrounding racism, then those people never gave a fuck to begin with.

Best graphics I've seen to date, no question about it. There is one major nitpick though, the eyes just don't look right at all. They need to borrow some of the tech from the shadow fall engine to make the eyes look realistic.

It looks really good but to me it somehow seems off when compared to until dawn.

stupid name. Great trailer, but jesus David, get off your horses, I know you want to the one who wrote the next Blade Runner but people already did these subject

Not in a videogame they haven't. David deserves the benefit of the doubt. He's earned at least that much. This was just the reveal trailer.

Weird, I would say Until Dawn seems a little off in comparison to Kara. Some of the facial features of Until Dawn were a bit exaggerated like the noses or lips at times. Or teeth especially.

NM you were specific about the eyes.

Hmmm ...

dunno don't think we got many pure close ups of her eyes. But they look pretty darn good either way lol.

Yeah I agree. Goddamn does this game have really good aa. Awesome sub-surface and lighting. It seriously looks cg sometimes

Detroit: Become Human is my favorite name since Cyberpunk 2077

I enjoyed Heavy Rain and Beyond a ton. Will definitely pick this up.

So glad they decided to make a full game out of the Kara demo.

Holy shit, I watched the Gamersyde video and the visuals are absolutely incredible! No doubt QD was always going to deliver at that, but it is honestly one of the best looking games I've ever seen. The final scene with Kara looks hugely impressive.

Looks very interesting. I wish QD had come up with a better subtitle than the generic "Become Human", though. Or just name the game "Kara"...since this game seems to be more about her than about Detroit.

Hopefully it's just a working title and not final.

Has this game beaten the Uncanny Valley entirely? Because seriously, I see absolutely nothing abnormal or fake about the Kara face. Looks real. Same could be said for the most part for The Order as well really. But with the water on the face and everything, I was seriously blown away by that end part.

not enough capture points, the muscles are still very stiff

Yeah this has been a problem with the QD engine ever since heavy rain. Laa-Yosh over at B3D wrote about this. Sadly the more impressive the graphics get the more faults you will see because they will be easier to catch. It sucks because I don't think there is anything they can do about this other than scrap the engine. It looks good enough though.

It's hard to say definitively but it seems to me that Detroit is a significant setting, not just any random city. The billboard at the start of the trailer basically hammers the point home: cars made Detroit prosperous once, and androids will make Detroit prosperous again. ("Motor City" vs. "Android City")

Because it's Quantic Dream and David Cage, it's possible that Detroit the game's depiction of Detroit the city will be wildly inaccurate or highly allegorical. But I hope the game explores Detroit's industrial and socioeconomic history as a backdrop for the rise of androids. It would be a big waste of a setting otherwise.

Yikes, that dialogue sets the bar low.

I'm not sure why I should be impressed by stencilling real life. It looks pretty good but what is the point.

Kara for me was the best real-time tech demo of its generation. This has huge potential story-wise, but given David Cage's reputation it'll probably be far too convoluted for its own good.

Quantic Dream games have gameplay. They are games.

The effectiveness of their gameplay is mostly dependent on player's engagement with the story and atmosphere, though.

From the director's mouth himself, these are games that are designed to elicit emotional response through their directions, stories, and themes. Putting those as the focus of criticism is very fair, I think.
