R.Mika's Critical Art is censored in the latest build of SF5

My wife's right next to me, is reading the thread with me, is an avid SF player since Third Strike, so I fail to see what's out of context. She has her opinion on what constitutes tasteful sexuality and this ain't it.

That R. Mika is a take on Joshi pro wrestling and her butt slap is akin to a wrestler signalling to the crowd for her finisher move. Is it cheesecake? Sure. Distasteful? If that is distasteful, your wife probably finds a shit ton of things distasteful about SF in general. Especially since 3S. I personally didn't even find it sexual at all. Campy? Cheesecake? Sure.

Guess Capcom made the choice for us though. Does she find the outfits in this game distasteful sexually as well?

The bolded is incorrect. Censorship does not require a government authority to force change. It's incredibly ironic when people try to belittle others for not knowing what censorship means when their own definition is inaccurate.

Censorship is the system or practice of censoring, and censoring is "to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable."
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/censoring

You can argue it shouldn't apply in this instance because the game is still in development, but your "Reality" definition is false. Otherwise, self-censorship couldn't exist.

This.
A bit tired of people saying to look up definitions in a dictionary but suddenly becoming silent or doing as if this didn't exist when the real definition is posted.

Again, as some said previously, the camera might still be a glitch or other build problem (I work in game dev, this shit happens), but the new final animation definitely isn't a glitch and looks pretty bad.

Pretty dope Mika play in that vid. Taking notes on some of those set-ups. Don't care about the change too much though the Super loses some of its over the top factor. *shrug*

why?

I would have not noticed this shit if people didn't make such a big deal about it

Because it would look better? It's just stupid to have the ass slap sound and show nothing. They already changed the ending part of the super, so it's not like I'm asking for something outlandish.

I also wish they'd tweak Chun's super animation, it looks pretty damn bad. Always did. Surprised they didn't change it already. Fucking bubble hits, just let her kick people in the face.

c. MP after f. HP was sweet, stealing that shit.

...if they don't nerf her and remove it before the game comes out.

My gf doesn't see a single problem with a butt slap and Mika's outfit. Or Cammy. Or Laura.
But maybe it's because she's mature enough to watch anime withoit being offended by everything.

In what world does this being censorship make sense? Peoples problems with Mika don't start and end with the butt slap. They'd make almost no one happy and piss off some of their more uh "sensitive" fanservice fans.

What you're saying is that the SF team isn't very bright.

Agree to disagree. Not sure how you thought I was insulting the SF team though.

Different intent. Actually, that's an excellent example of what it's like when it's with a male character vs a female character. It's incredibly common, Male is usually for comedy, female is for titillation. So thanks for presenting that gif. :)

I'm 100% serious when I say I'm not gonna buy this unless it's remedied, there are other games for me to play so it won't be a major loss for me.

I know some women who don't like those things. One in particular who wants cammy to put on pants. That doesn't make them more mature than your wife, and vice versa. Get the hell over youself.

I'm tired of people using their wives/gf's as barometers as whats ok or whats not ok for women to be offended at . Like " Oh I have a wife/gf i'm not a looser " the person you choose to spend large chunks of your life with you has similar tastes or at least humors you , who would have thunk it.

If Mika swung her exposed genitals or breats around like you suggest for Ryu, then that would be pervy, sure.

But that is a far freaking leap from playfully slapping your own butt.

So your contention is that slapping an ass is not pervy if it was done playfully. Do you work with many females? Why don't you give one of em a slap on the ass and let me know whether they found it playful or pervy? If they get offended or take you to the HR office be sure to inform them of the distinction between playful and pervy behavior as she probably won't be privy to this information.

Why do people still believe this? Or is this one of those "-ism requires prejudice+power" things?

Nobody here has the power to censor capcom unless they work at Capcom. Nothing you can physically do can do anything to censor capcom. You can suggest they do something and get enough people to agree with you so they can hear your complaint. That isn't censorship.

Women aren't a hivemind and asking them their thoughts like when the news needs a black opinion is hilarious.

I was joking on people calling out avatar anime and the one calling out his wife, but whatever, go on.

It's possible to see something and not like it or consider it stupid without being offended by it.

The only reason as to why this could be a glitch and not actually censored is the fact that the slap animation is still there and you can hear it.

Sexist Dan.

Feminism demands that R. Mika be allowed to slap her ass on camera. If the oppressive male patriarchy deems Dan Hibiki (a man) worthy of slapping his ass on camera, then R. Mika (an oppressed woman just trying to express herself) should be granted the same liberties that all free people are owed!

I'm a female Street Fighter player. I love Mika's butt slap, and I'm mostly okay with her outfit (I think the midsection looks weird and could use a bit more fabric). I also love Laura's look and her outfit.

Cammy has always been a bit odd to me, but I don't care enough either way to argue for changes that might disappoint her fans.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I think too often guys speak for girls in terms of what they do or don't like, instead of letting them speak for themselves.

Could you tell the guy who has a wife who found mika pervy the same while you're at it ?

Yeah, it just looks dumb. I don't like to call it censorship, especially because all it does is derail threads to semantics arguments, but when all they do is move the camera, it just looks like the TV version of some ecchi anime, where they'll zoom in somwhere else to avoid showing what can only be showed in the Blu-ray version.

I'll still miss the butt slap if they change it completely, but at least I'll be getting something new and cool in its place, rather than just having "anime censorship".

Hahaha, why?

Agreed, I should have worded myself better. It's the camera angle change that makes it feel like censorship. Had she debuted doing something completely different I wouldn't have thought twice about it being censorship. Would have just been a change.

Why do people still believe this? Or is this one of those "-ism requires prejudice+power" things?

We're at 14 pages and nobody knows WHY it was changed at all. It could simply be a creative choice, but people are losing their minds at the mere notion that something naughty won't be in the game, like they came into their house and stole their mother or something and now there's a big hole in their heart where once their mother/booty slap once was.

Maybe it'll stay in, maybe it's a glitch, maybe they just felt it wasn't working and made the CA too silly or too long, maybe Japan's prime minister personally visited their offices and demanded the removal of the sacred booty slap so filthy westerners wouldn't learn their hidden techniques of booty power.

We DON'T know. Those crying it's censorship, and those crying it's not, are BOTH wrong until we know how and why it was changed.

Yes, I'm sure the time spent putting in ass physics was all an accident, right? Lol

They caved to pressure. That's the reality of the situation. Own it, but don't act like it was what they intended.

They made a decision about what they wanted in their game. Making a game is a neverending series of decisions. Once you make a game yourself I think you have a different perspective on what intention means. There are dozens of voices with different opinions inside that team and they are hashing out hundreds of problems. Things change all the time both due to internal and external stimulus.

I really don't think you can say what the reality of the situation is.

Interesting that you can still hear the slap though >.>

I'm actually more upset that they took out the leg split in the super, it looks pretty dumb without it.

Eh, Mika's slap comes off as playful. It's not pure comedy like Dan, but Dan is a joke character.

hahaha I don't even know how to respond to this

You think it's better this way than having a new animation not involving her ass?

I don't get your point here.

Unless you just want to laugh at me and you don't really have one. If that's the case, go ahead. Have the time of your life.

I'm 100% serious when I say I'm not gonna buy this unless it's remedied, there are other games for me to play so it won't be a major loss for me.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mika is really damn fun, your loss.

what's worse is that often times he makes those lewd gestures to underaged girls (sakura / makoto).

As in "Heathcliff"
I think they just want to censored it because they want to have lower rating for Street Fighter V in order to sell to the young audiences. I meant it just happened after we just got the information from ESRB. Please don't forget how strict the ratings are in other countries.

Ha did u see that r.mika thread? People now get offended if a female character has a cup size bigger than an A cup

It's terrible, anything that could potentially hurt anyone's feelings is "toxic" or "problematic" now.

People need to raise children with thicker skin, and people need to stop looking for things to be offended about for attention

Just so you know, self-censorship isn't a new concept at all, and exists.

But yeah, let's stop with semantics. Censorship isn't necessarily bad (cf Lyn in XCX), but can be pretty dumb (cf Fatal Frame).

I agree .

On the subject of cammy though I'm too old to be caring for what might disappoint fans, I will pay hard money for this girl to put on pants.

Could you tell the guy who has a wife who found mika pervy the same while you're at it ?

I don't know what you are asking?

Man this is not a good week for the public image of SFV.

First we get the tutorial, which (from the majority of the feedback I've seen) has been very negative in terms of aesthetic and production value... raising real concerns over the quality of the story mode which was supposed to be improved in this game.

Now actively removing a single piece of fanservice like that's going to excuse the other 90% of the content that's likely to offend the people it was removed to pander to.

A huge part of what sunk Street Fighter x Tekken was public image... Capcom needs to get their act together, and quick.
