Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

-You can control other party members, but you can keep control one if you want

As I said in the other thread, I'm going to need clarification on this and if there will be a way to have minimal AI interference when not using other characters beyond basic attacks.

For some reason I'm actually not upset at the episodic thing...

Probably because I just really want to see my favorite moments from the game redone in a new style.

I know I posted like I was earlier but eh, I don't really care now.

Nomura: VII in one work would turn into a digest. We judged that the remake must be full volume, so we decided to make [VII] multi-part.

Nomura: A subtitle for the VII remake would give the impression of a spin-off or sequel, so they avoided using one.

Nomura: If we make the characters reall, they'll look like real people and no one will recognize them, so we're aiming to balance.

Nomura: Advent Children models are too old, so they've been refining the graphics and balancing reality and deformation.

Aside from the CG shown at the beginning of the trailer, everything is in real-time. You can alter the camera angle during the train scene.

Cloud's appearance has to partially to do with the lighting and his pale skin. Nojima had said Cloud's sickly appearance is brilliant.

Cross-dressing scene will be included. Nomura has yet to work on the design, however.

NMR: VIIR is completely different from Crisis Core's battle system. Not as actiony as Dissidia Arcade or KH but closer to that style.

NMR: VIIR has ATB, but it's not the type where you wait for the gauge to fill up and then attack. It is connected with the action system.

NMR: 3-member parties, all interchangeable and playable. You don't have to change characters if you don't want.

NMR: The battle speed they're aiming for is Dissidia Arcade's. The battles we saw in the trailer are kind of like a standard to aim for.

Nomura went over the trailer so many times and doubted if it'd be all right to show, but the reaction he received has relieved him.

also in interviews(info is somewhere on last pages of other thread) they confirmed they want to add new stuff and surprises so its not the same experience to even surprise us old school fans

I love everything I've seen and read over the past couple days. In fact, I don't really mind the game being released as an episodic game. My only concern is the exploration. I only hope the multi-part thing won't cut the exploration from this game.

So they wanted Cloud to appear sickly?

Someone remind of the story reason behind this

probably multiple reasons but my guess would be...

Cloud at the start of the game probably was very sickly looking, he and zack had just come out of sealed fluid chambers under the mansion where hojo stuck them. Cloud unlike zack didnt take to kindly to the reunion experiment and was pretty much a breathing corpse until he absorbed zacks memories and made his way into mid, he only truly became conscious upon meeting tifa again. Most people forget that cloud isnt cloud until much later where he stops beingg a emo little bitch and actually gives a shit

Well, that puts one of my fears to rest. I don't want a highlights of FFVII game. I want the full remake. If everything comes together in the end as the complete story and world of FFVII, I'll take episodic content as a compromise. Now I just need to know if there's an overworld map. I mean there has to be, right? It wouldn't be Final Fantasy VII without the overworld theme and where are they gonna play it without an overworld?

Maybe they'll split the game into continents.

Depending on how much of Midgar they want to give us now, that one area could be one part itself.

I dunno.

It's just killed my hype thinking like this. The beauty of 7, hell any JRPG is flying around that big map able to go anywhere. Revisting places. Doing side quests as you see fit. Just doesn't work if you break it up into episodes.

Flashbacks of Star Ocean 4 on the 360. I loved switching discs.

I think that's not going to be the system they're going for. Thing of them not as separate releases that stand on their own, but rather additions that complement each other. For example, in Episode I, you'd only be able to explore one continent, just like the original game before you get to Junon. Then the map would open up more and more with every episode until you get Highwind and you could go everywhere.

I just hope they try to keep the number of episodes minimal.

Hello GAF! Longtime lurker... been around for the better part of VII-Remake hype and wanted to make my first post here, feels good man.

I'm okay with this decision if only because we're probably going to get VII-R: Part 1 in 2017 (one year after XV), with other two (?) parts in consecutive years (2018/19).

Cheers from Croatia, GAF!

After reading the new info and thinking on the info we have my biggest worry is probably how the episodic element could affect the overall development.

From everything I am reading I really feel like they might not have the budget/production cycle decided for the later episodes. Hopefully I am wrong but I could see it being a situation where they are basing it on the success of the first release.

Developing something in piecemeal like this has some big pitfalls that can be hard to predict or avoid, especially with something that has an action battle system like this.

It should be okay since the overall story beats and bosses are already laid out for them so they can plan all of the modeling, rigging, etc. for as many cases as possible but then again SE hasn't really been known for efficient development in recent years.....

This is all well and good, but I hope to see them pin down dates for the releases because this is Square after all. It would also be nice to know the grand total for episodes they plan on releasing.

I had my suspicions this might end up being episodic.

No idea why but it just had that feeling about it.

Guess I was right to question the retail release. ;)

So what is the consensus regarding spoilers? It's a 18 year old game and I personally believe we shouldn't use spoiler tags, but I don't know about the rest.

ATB and action? Uh.... that sounds like the worst of both worlds to be honest.

To me it sounds like they are ripping off Crisis Core system without the slots, to be honest. I know they said they haven't but that's what it sounds like to me.

Yeah, and (some of) the Game of Thrones books are old as well, and yet show spoilers need to be tagged.

I don't know, there's alot of people, especially younger ones, that have never played FF7. Id still use spoilertags for this since it's technically a new game that is gonna played by alot of people that never touched FF7.

Realtime cutscenes are better for posterity yeah.

In retrospect, that 2005 tech demo seemed like a bunch of BS.I seriously doubt a PS3 could produce that kind of quality in real time. Here we are in 2015,and most games still don't look as good as that demo did.
2005 demo was crappy in many ways, it even used alpha test textures for faraway geometry like original FFVII on ps1.

It was surpassed by many games.

I can definitely see them getting Part 1 done like the end of Disc 1. To refresh other's memory on what it contained, here is a nice summary. It also ended with a very key sequence that will drum up the excitement and marketing for the next part.

Base on the content of orginal FFVII, 2 parts seem suitable (disk 3 is just final dungeon and long ass CGI). It should look like marketing of movie industry nowadays: <INSERT FINAL ACT OF MOVIE> Part 1, <INSERT FINAL ACT OF MOVIE> Part 2

speaking as someone that played the original i want one of the parts to end at Aeriths death just too see the outrage lol

This doesn't really gel with them talking about volume of content being the reason for the split, since that would mean all of Midgar, the first continent up to Junon, the second continent, possibly including Wutai, the Temple of the Ancients and the start of the third continent in one game.

They better treat these episodes as expansions as opposed to standalone adventures. If it's the latter, exploration is compromised heavily.

Well episodic content killed my hype. I don't think I'll play it until it's completely out, I want the full deal in my hands when I get it.

I understand that it's a huge game, and they want to fit everything in... but why sell us three (at best) parts?
Damn, just publish it as a full multi-blu ray disc game (talk about nostalgia!) in 2018.

Financial reasons, most likely. Nomura already said that if they were to go with a single release, content will have to be cut. An episodic release will keep shareholders happy while also letting the designers flesh out the game.

Here's a couple of screenshots I managed to grab from the trailer, you probably saw it already multiple times, but please be gentle.
