Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc coming to PC via Steam in February

This thread on steam forums made me laugh:

"Hi devs! Will Danganronpa also release on Origin? I'm not a fan of Steam."

Juniors.

Anyway, really excited about that. Played the DR1 a year or two ago but haven't had the chance to play Super Danganronpa yet, so I hope it gets released on Steam shortly after the first game.

Hey don't lump us all into that catagory I've supported the dev and will continue to by double dipping
How's the new one? still haven't got around to playing it, looks different

That sounds really cool actually.

To add to this, it's a very high energy game with an inconsistent tone (for greater effect imo). There's humor and characters hamming it up, but also a bleak atmosphere and people being killed in legitimately cruel ways with other characters reacting to said deaths without a hint of humor. It was actually going to be much darker, but the developers changed it quite a bit since it was becoming too bleak.

It takes elements from several other games (Ace Attorney, Persona 3/4, Zero Escape) and yet somehow manages to be completely distinct. I can't think of another series that's so unique while simultaneously being comparable to other stuff. It's really something that needs to be experienced for anyone that has even a passing interest in the genre. Hell, I've seen it win over people that were adamant in their hatred of the genre.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Nice to see another confirmation from the leaks. Probably won't get it day one unless it's very cheap, though. I replayed the game just before DR2 came out, so it's still fairly fresh in memory. I can't imagine it being much fun to replay anytime soon. I might end up throwing money at them anyway if it's priced reasonably, though.

Also, it's safe to assume DR2 will follow but I wonder about Another Episode. I still haven't played my Vita copy so I'm not sure if I should get around to it ASAP or just hold off for a potential PC release that will certainly run better. Hmm...

Hope 2, V3 and AE wont take too long to come over to the pc

Also, before anyone else says anything, the sequel is objectively worse.

*runs away*

edit: seriously though buy both games when they come out on Steam because they're great

That's a bummer. I thought the first game seriously failed to live up to the hype
but I still enjoyed my time with it.

Another Episode looks and runs great on Vita, barring one or two very small instances. Go ahead and play it before you accidentally get spoiled.

That's a good point, I've avoided AE spoilers for so long that I hadn't even thought about that. I should probably get to it sooner rather than later...

It's just kind of hard to make time for Vita games lately. There's so much great stuff coming out on Steam, especially in the next few weeks. I mean, between XCOM 2 and Disgaea, I'm not sure how I'll manage to even think about playing anything else in February.

This game rocks! :) please look forward to it, vita-less gaffas

I also played this game on PC using the PPSSPP emulator with the fan translated "zetsubou" project. This was before it was announced to be translated to PS Vita

I then bought all 3 DR's on Vita, while Despair Girls was pretty bleh, I still like to support western releases.

Yup yup yup it's super good. Just try it! Like watching the trailer in OP kinda makes me cringe because of how not-good it looks when taken out of context. But it's reaaaaally good.

Never forget the #1 rule of Danganronpa: don't get attached to anyone until the game is truly over.

I didn't and so 3 out my favorites died within the first 2 chapters :/

Does the localized version have voice options? I had read a little of a let's play from before it was even fan translated and I watched a little bit with the English dub, and Monokuma's just not the same when he doesn't have the Doraemon voice.

Rule # 2

Stay away from all Tumblr posts with the hashtag Dangan Ronpa because its bound to have spoilers. Seriously, this fandom LOVES to spoil, I even got spoiled for a death in DR2 on my DR1 playthrough on Youtube lol.

Yes it does. Well, the Vita version does, I don't see why the PC version won't include it.

I was mostly joking; trying to play off how divisive the games are. If you liked the first one, you'll like the second; the stuff they did better negates the stuff they did worse, and it does have the best case in the series.

This only happened to me once or twice, throughout the entire game, and even then they were only characters I kind of liked. You just need to pick a good favorite! 😁

But now I'm playing through Danganronpa 2 and
you may have a point :(

Already off to a great start.

Can't wait. Heard so much good stuff about the series but never got to try it. Don't get all the dislikes on that announcement video.

Hey, how did Spike Chunsoft got this approved without going through Steam Greenlight?

Going to assume it's because they're already a known entity and Valve lets them bypass it. Quite a few other developers don't have any of their first Steam games on there either, despite releasing said games after Greenlight became a thing.

I've dreaded that since knowing the concept. Have yet to really get started on one though, despite receiving that as a gift close-ish to release.

Wouldn't surprise me if more and more they're paying attention to how prominent a publisher/developer is and just where that game was made available. This is one that was pretty popular online, had a full Lets Play and fan translation before getting an official release, and 2 more games following it, so it's clearly an established series that's reasonably safe to just let get onto Steam without any Greenlight roadblocks.

Our sources on this are murky at best, but legends say there used to be a time before the light shone green and publishers had a way of contacting the sacred halls of Gaben directly. Alas, such knowledge is now surely lost, but the old pacts of yore are stil respected by Valve to this day .

Most games on Steam don't go through Greenlight.
It MIGHT be expected being a niche VN-style game from developers/publishers who weren't prominent on PC on Steam or internationally (Agarest, Gurumin, and even Deadly Premonition were on it I think), but I also expect Valve is paying attention to how games like this never seem to actually have trouble passing Greenlight so it ends up being a silly song and dance.

In other news we have discovered the internet kills long term memory. Even 60 year olds can't remember what it was like to have their phone stuck on a tiny ethernet cord!

If we're talking visual novels, even Visual Arts/Key's games still need to go through Greenlight. Valve's rules for who has to go through it are pretty strange.

Aw sick. I love Danganronpa so much. It's great that so many more can now relish in the despair.

Awesome news! So happy these games are gonna see new life on PC, definitely gonna buy and replay this as soon as it's out.

However...

Screenshots are at Vita's resolution, not a great sign:
I was worried about this, kinda bummed that this really does seem like a no-frills 544p Vita port so far (based off these screens), just like Sayonara Umihara Kawase was. I don't wanna jump to any conclusions without more info, but the screens don't instill confidence. I suppose it was too much to hope for higher res art of the characters.

Hopefully the sprites will still look somewhat nice and clean at fullscreen 1080p, and that there are at least resolution options for the environments. If resolution isn't even an option... well, there's always Durante. :/

And like that, my PSTV goes right into the trash.

At least it was worth it for the Dualshock 3 and the first few hours I put into my friend's copy of Danganronpa.

But if this is getting a PS4 release too at some point, wouldn't it make sense to have HD art assets?

It's never been stated at any point that Danganronpa 1 and 2 are coming to PS4. That's just something people in this thread keep assuming for.. reasons I suppose.

Gaben secretly loves japanese games and gives them green light all the time (even for shitty ports)

If this game only use 2d art its not big deal?

Mmm, already played (and platinumed!) on the Vita, but this is incredibly tempting.

If it's a reasonable price (considering the £34.99 I spent on the physical copy), I might double dip with this one.
