only a matter of time till numbers go up again right?

right????

There is actually a shot that next year will be up on this year with the NX handheld out. Maybe a couple of relatively good years after that, until the NX is saturated and then sales fall again. That's the best we can hope for.

That combined with this, which I believe took a drop for 2015 again:

Yup, I think we had a post about it in the last of the threads for last year but we were down again in 2015 from 2014. But that's pretty much a given when only one, aging platform is carrying the whole market.

About the only time we might see a rise YoY is if the NX comes out with a successful bang in Japan... rather than one of those bangs that come from a star exploding.

Yeah, lots of interesting slides there. I'm surprised Sega are so open with this type of info when usually for their console/handheld stuff they don't get into this much detail.

That slide was more interesting for noting the increased difficulty for publishers to break into the top end of the market over time. Also the point on discoverability in a crowded market - folks tend to look at the top selling/grossing charts more than ever and base their playtime on that (success begets success in general).

the Wii U chart is NOT YET completed, can we stop this pathetic discussion started by sammy please ?
why nowadays sales-age discussions are just a never-ending console war ? my god...
Eh, I know that WiiU chart isn't complete, never said it was. My previous post was simply in response to Darius and casiopao regarding the image I posted, nothing more.

I doubt much will change. It worth remembering that mobile is not the only factor contributing to the decline of the dedicated market, declining number of physically published titles + digital distribution are also important factors.

Even if the NX release resulted in higher hardware sales the overall market would probably still see decline. 2010 > 2011 still saw sharp decline despite the release of the 3DS/PSV (hardware was up that year).

Lmao is this a complete list? I see some qualifiers on the site but seems like even sub 5k games are accounted for.

If Wii U's library in Japan is around 30 games, then jesus that's pathetic.

It's definitely not a complete list. Pikmin 3 and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate are two titles that sold over 200K that aren't even listed.

The World End Eclipse was one of the failures.

War Pirates and Monster Gear were the successes.

Not sure what the other failure was since they released a few games during that period.

Edit:

It looks like Chaos Dragon was the other failure since they list Yumerio Cast as a success.

1454818710-sega-mobile-2.png

WEC had huge problem from the beginning. It is intended to be the successor of CC and Hsaga but due to its dual development of PC and mobile version it end up doing really badly. Not only the mobile version seems to run on slow motion, the game graphics on PC also looks subpar. It is the ultimate recipe for failure here.

Chaos Dragon is even worst from launch to the quality of anime. The anime end up causing Sega to force the developer to push out the game early before the game is ready. It end up lauching with sooo many bugs that it makes the DOA in only one week. Hell, i would said that Chaos Dragon is one of the worst managed mobile game Sega had ever done.

Damn Sonic can't find success anywhere.

Sonic was a product of the 90s that couldn't evolve with the times.
It's as if they continued pushing Crash Bandicoot or Spyro with their old character.
Nintendo's mascots keep working because in most cases they have really basic characters that are able to get slight changes depending on the time period, without changing them fundamentally, just like Disney does/did. You can't really do that with mascot characters that are really pushed towards a specific direction, as we've seen since the PS1/2 era.

Speaking of Sega management...

Let's see if doing a half-assed remaster will actually bring in any sales.

I'm going to err on the side of "no" but that depends on what "any sales" means. It will certainly bring sales of some sort. :p

Well,this is ur answer lol.

That's about what I expected. Charging 5000 yen for an upres and a demo code is so shortsighted. In not-Japan we got the far better deal for $20.

I thought 30k would be a good benchmark. Some people were cracking out 50k predictions and I was scratching my head, because I don't see the "pull". For a remaster to sell more than half of its original opening week, is bold.

Ya I'd peg it at ~20k. But in, general, its common for people to overestimate PS4 (well, all) software.

Perhaps the expectations are skewed by the strong performance in the west on the release to PC.

At least as far as Japan is concerned, I think Sega would've been better off porting VC to Vita instead of selling a demo. Then you'd have all three mainline games on a handheld.

Builders did pretty damn well, definitely going to be interesting to see how the PS4 version of XI does compared to the 3DS version. Also I'm so glad that it's the norm for cross gen games to sell a lot better on PS4 in Japan now.
PS4's hold so far this year has been pretty good.

Would that be bomba for Final?

The game is pretty much more SMT4, so it depends on if you feel Atlus was hoping to repeat the original's success, or follow the fairly standard sales patterns for sort-of-but-not-really Japanese game sequels.

We might get an answer out of Sega at some point in a fiscal report, but it's such a low volume title I'm not sure if they'd bother mentioning it either way.

You can't really do that with mascot characters that are really pushed towards a specific direction, as we've seen since the PS1/2 era.

Sonic sold extremely well on Wii and DS and Transformed did better on Wii U than the other systems at launch, and also Gens 3DS outsold the HD versions. I honestly think essentially Sonic's only able to really succeed on Nintendo systems these days.

Not to mention Sonic Lost World's horrific performance on Steam according to SteamSpy currently showing it at only 22k worldwide after over 3 months. The game passed that on Wii U and 3DS after only two weeks in NA according to NPD leaks. AND the game was on sale numerous times including at just over $10, hell that $10 sale is the only thing that made it go from 10k to over 20k really.

Back to mobile, I think that pic is only for Japanese sales and not worldwide, but still. Also do we even know what revenue Sonic Dash even generated? I know that game had been downloaded like 150m times, but did anyone bother paying for anything in it? Sega might make some bank from ad revenue, but that only gets you so far I'd think, and from an icon like Sonic is another thing altogether.

It honestly amazes me after 2 years Chain Chronicle is still able to pull such a healthy figure for Sega. I think back in March last year it brought in close to $70 million so it should be about $100 million now. That should make it one of the company's most successful titles.

I wonder why they keep their Western mobile titles separate in this list though. Sonic Runners is a failure here but Sonic Dash 2 is considered a success and I'd be interested in knowing how much it's brought in for Sega.

I don't think that's the case, they've enjoyed success last generation on consoles and both Sonic Dash and Sonic Jump have registered good numbers to show the franchise can work on mobile. Sonic Dash 2 saw 6 million downloads between Oct - Dec so I disagree this is an issue of evolution, I feel this is an issue of a shabby product in the market.

Compared to what Sonic Runners was pre-launch, it was a lot more generous with content, allowed more lives and the amount of ads one had to watch to play the game was minimum. To me it definitely has been an issue of quality that has plagued these failed mobile titles from Sega and not a case of a fatigued brand.

Of course Nintendo console and it's the demograph aligns much more with Sonic's intended audience (Children) Sonic Heroes did phenomenally on the Playstation 2 but back then Sony enjoyed a decent amount of family friendly games on their consoles too and why the series enjoys so much success on mobile. Now is that audience there on the Playstation 4, PC and Xbox One to make up declining software sales on Nintendo's console? I'm sure Sega is hoping it is because relying solely on the Nintendo console/handheld is no longer going to be a viable option for them at this rate.

90k for SMT4F would put it in the same ballpark as Persona 3 Fes. Considering how SMT4 sold more than Persona 3 did, and the Atlus brand is considered much stronger today, I would consider getting the same result for something that has more effort than Fes put into it and is being positioned as a bigger product, to be a disappointment.

DQB's hold is expected but Yakuza is holding better than I imagined.

Tsutaya is biased towards Yakuza, don't read to much.

For example, last year Tsutaya Week 17 2015 (Yakuza 0 for PS3 was still 14 and was holding better before):

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=161712685

Media Create Week 17 2015 thread (position 43 for MC, out of the top 30 for Famitsu):

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1037776

That's why I said this week Rakuten chart seems more accurate. lol

Well, Naruto is not in first position there and expresses the opposite of YSO. Kinda weird this week, though. And kinda funny also you find the chart accurate, lol.

Naruto's YSO predictions were made before DQBuilders first week numbers came out, and their numbers were underestimated. So, there're high chances that they've underestimated this week too.
That explains why their third week for builders is good now, it's like they're trying to fix their past weeks mistakes.
