A game so amazing it spoils others games

A 1990 game
Super Mario World. I played a lot of 2D platformers after that and no game came close to being as good as SMW.

I don't think Witcher 3 vs RotTR example is good example. I don't think they are comparable. They are different experiences and I could enjoy both. They way they tell their story is different enough.

I would say that a game like Watchdog felt so crappy because at the time there were better open world games. Witcher 3 puts it to shame( though it came out later) GTAV on PS3 puts it to shame. That game is so generic.

After playing Souls game a lot of the similar type game are a bit less enjoyable, but I still play the Zeldas. I just wish they'd make it a bit harder.

Fallout: New Vegas.

Lord I wish I understood what make people so enamored with Fallout: New Vegas.

Meaningful quest options and dialogue are nice, but outside of that they kept everything wrong with Fallout 3 from the terrible combat to the bug-riddled engine. And then threw a totally bland environment on top of it, and discouraged exploration in a lot of ways (the bread and butter of Fallout games IMO).

I liked New Vegas, but the worship is insane.

Dark Age of Camelot - Ruined MMO's for me. All released after DAoC are pretty dumbed down comparatively

Starsiege Tribes - Ruined FPS for me. All FPS released after T2 are dumbed down comparatively

At which point you quit gaming altogether as tropical freeze destroyed any remaining love of gaming you had left. I feel ya fam.

Yep. It feels like all platformers suck compared to tropical freeze. I can still enjoy Cities Skylines because it's the second coming of (city) simulation games.

Still need to try Splatoon, I heard it's an amazing game as well.

It's all about priorities. I wouldn't call well-thought-out quests and dialogues nice, they are essential. on the other hand, having beautiful locations would be nice but not crucial.

I would say that Steins;Gate spoiled my future Visual Novel experiences. I'm playing Daganronpa right now but it's just not the same.
The Last Of US was a really good game, but it didn't spoil anything for me. I might have to replay it a second time.

The Last of Us. You know it's real when you'd rather replay that story mode on hand difficulty rather than starting a new game. I have expect the same will be the case for Uncharted 4 because of the borrowed best elements of Last of Us encounters.

A bit more old school but...

Alpha Centauri has ruined all Civ games for me. Played it loads years ago and everytime i go near a Civ game since they just don't have the same hook.

rocket league. maybe when i can fly in the air and hit crazy shots on the pitch in a soulsborne or metroidvania game, i'll reconsider

Back in 90s, after playing Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario world don't look so good.

After that no other game spoil another game for me.

The Last of Us - One of the best games I've ever played.

Crackdown - One of the few sandbox games that actually kept my attention for more than 3 or 4 hours. (Saints Row 4 was almost as good).

The Witcher 3 - Hands down the best RPG I've ever played. It's basically going to force every RPG maker to step their games up (especially Bethesda...hopefully).

Axiom Verge - My GOTY 2015. It showed how every run-and-shoot Metroidvania should be for the rest of eternity.

The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human - Contender for game of the year 2016. It takes the Metroidvania formula and adds a very welcome twist. Some of the best boss fights I've ever seen in this type of action/adventure game.

Star Ocean 2 - This game showed me that older-school JRPGs didn't have to be tedious and that grinding could actually be enjoyable with a fun and engaging combat system.

Witcher 3: The Thread

Only thing that's truly satisfied me since Witcher 3 was the expansion to Witcher 3.

Pretty accurate. It's not even that the other games aren't enjoyable in their own ways. I just keep thinking that I'd rather be replaying TW3 or about when the next expansion is releasing.

Deadly Premonition. It was months before I put any serious time into another game. I can't quite explain it, either--it's not like the game play itself was a masterpiece. I can say that is was definitely one of the last games I've played that had soul--a labor of love, if you will.

Also Bioshock Infinite for an FPS - the depth of story and 'wow' moments were unprecedented. Not to mention how much love and labor went into crafting Columbia.

Definitely World of Warcraft. Whenever I try another MMO of that kind I can usually tell after one button press that I won't enjoy playing the game.

Definitely Dark Souls.

Not in the sense where I want other games to be like Dark Souls, but in the "why am I playing this when I could be playing Dark Souls instead?" sense.

Bioshock and The last of us are the first ones that come to mind. Concerning gameplay mechanics Bioshock was amazing. The narrative was also sublimely done (sander cohen and andrew ryan being my favourites)

Emotionally? The last of us made me choke up many times. The bond Elly and Joel develop during their time together was so well done.

Demon's Souls... easily the best souls game. Nothing else has captured the sense of risk/reward/discovery which was new at the time for consoles.

Bloodborne pretty much wrecked Dark Souls 2 for me. The worldbuilding in Bloodborne is so good. DS2 is so flat an uninteresting by comparison. I sure hope DS3 is as good as BB.

EverQuest. EverQuest Online Adventures, and Final Fantasy XI.

I have such a hard time enjoying all the modern MMOs after growing up on these. These old ones had a real sense of adventure, danger, and progression that the news one just don't capture anymore. I loved the learning curbs and just discovering everything about the games. Modern MMOs are so hand hold-y that I struggle to find them enjoyable and usually just quit playing half way through them. I recently decided to give FFXI a go and it just feels... so good. Still old school and enjoyable despite the changes made to accompany its age.

FFXII captures this perfectly. Once you go gambit, there's no going back. Xenoblade and the like become impossible to play. They're backwards by comparison to the level and ease of control you exercise over your party.

Game title with no description

A description would help. Allot of these aren't as self-evident as you think they are lol

never experienced this as im able to judge each game on its own merits. I also never judge a game for what it could have been, I judge it for what it is

Can't say that any game has ruined my taste for other games. Some games certainly stand out, but definitely don't sour my tastes.

I guess that Rise of the Tomb Raider has me a little worried about the new Uncharted simply because it was so good and I want Uncharted to be that good.

Skyrim.
I know nobody will understand me, or maybe yes, but Skyrim ruined me a lot of games in terms of inmersion. All the others RPG-esques are not close to get the feelings that this game gave me when I was discovering it, neither Fallout 4 or the Witcher 3.

Other games can ruin a lot of other things, like Witcher 3 did with storytelling and sidequests, Souls with combat for say games being said in here.

I have to agree with this. Even though I haven't played the game in years and despite its flaws, I cannot get into any other MMO--they all seem off, for some reason. If I re-subbed my WoW account today I know I could have fun with it for a while.

Life is Strange was strangely super enjoyable to me and made me think of that genre and its assorted expectations a bit differently. But usually that doesn't happen to me. I find games a package and no game has been perfect so I can usually move on with ease despite blank game being maybe the highest of examples in whatever genre.

Glad I'm not the only one.

For many of us old-school FFXI (and older MMO) players, World of Warcraft and its "innovations" signaled the death toll of the genre. But that's something we should maybe not dive to deeply into with this thread.

Faerie Solitaire and playing card games. Windows 10 (of all things) has a blander version built in.

Hearthstone vs other collectible card games.

Trackmania Stadium for racing games.

Diablo 2 for isometric/top down RPGs.

Fire Emblem: Awakening spoiled me from the rest of the series because all the QoL features like difficulty options, the ability to have a quick skirmish to pass time and how varied and cool the characters are.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen ruined most of the open world fantasy RPG with that godly combat system, the Pawn system and the glorious animations of the monsters.

Shin Megami Tensei IV almost ruined most traditional JRPG and the SMT games in general with how fast paced the battles are, how simple yet elegant the fusion system is compared to previous games and the wealth of customization options for my main character.

And NFS: Underground 1 & 2 and Most Wanted ruined driving games for me FOREVER because they felt so good that I still play them from time to time and never felt like really really trying any other driving game.

Everything by Platinum Games. Movement in those games feels so godlike smooth and responsive. It's hard going back to akward & sluggish movement elsewhere. They just nail every frame.

I'm so glad I played Dragon Age: Inquisition before diving into The Witcher 3. Contrasting to a lot of people I know, actually really enjoyed DA:I despite its issues. But if I had played it after TW3, I'm not sure if I could have finished it. Wild Hunt does so much of what Inquisition is trying for, but does it so much better. I'm looking to get back into Inquisition and play it's DLC, but I'm not sure what to expect now.
