3DS HOMEBREW Discussion Thread [exploits/carts/applications/games]

i think I tried that, using a QR that took me to {some url}/3dsbroserhax_auto.php, it got stuck loading and after a minute or two it just said the browser can't be used. There was one time out the many I tried that the browser glitched out super bad but then nothing happened and had to restart, is that an indication it's working?

Did you put the browserhax payload on your SD card?

I know the thread has been derailed, but I find this very cool to do.

I'm now wondering if the same port from the stick to the hardware (3DS and PSP) applies to all sticks, that might able the replacement from other sticks, like the Vita stick.

of course other sticks might interrupt the clam-sell design of the 3DS

i don't think so.
i wish someone make small circle pad so it can be inserted in that place.

well i've read that word anyway, I'm not sure, what I did do was put the starter kit from smea, i got that from yellows8 site, it said
The only required SD-card setup is that you extract the homebrew starter-kit on SD.
I also copied the update cias on root with the safesysupdater.3dsx on the 3ds folder because I was optimistic and thought I could do it all in one go. My powersaves will get here on Monday so maybe that'll work

Okay, just got my N3DS today and decided to downgrade to 9.2, it says it worked but then I dunno what's happened and now it wont boot unless the microsd is taken out of the 3ds and I cant get into settings or the browser, am I fucked? or can i fix this?

EDIT: fixed the not being able to boot with microsd by deleting exdata like someone said in this thread.. System Settings and Browser still don't work though.

Sounds like a soft brick. What firmware did you downgrade from? If retail games still boot you can up uparade from a retail game like shovel knight and try again.

From 9.9.02 or something like that, i've read since that i should have upgraded to 10.3 first, but the guide i followed never mentioned that.. oh well, I might buy shovel knight when i get paid on sunday and see if that works.

I've seen posts by a guy on reddit saying every 9.9 firmware system he's attempted to downgrade has softbricked without fail. Hope you get it sorted.

I read about someone having a similar problem. They resolved it by running the downgrader again and it apparently installed a few more .cias (that it missed?) and then they were on 9.2 proper.

If you still have a way of accessing the homebrew loader then maybe try running the downgrader once more and see if that helps?

rxTools now support N3DS 10.5

I'm still not even sure what this thing does.
Yeah yeah I know google it.
Would this allow me to install cia stuff? I haven't done much crazy things to my 3DS yet though I'd rather play safe and not downgrade.

is there an app that i can use on the 3DS to keep all the homebrew up-to-date?

Wii Homebrew Browser was great for that.

well , in order to make that app , it should be accessible from the Homebrew channel
so, before any nintendo update , that app should update ninjhax and homemenuhax and whateverhax.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
What I wanted to ask for a while. I have setup Sysnand/reinand etc. just as it supposed to be done.

So what would be the easiest way to get my n3DS back to regular/official mode without losing my NNid, digital games and saves?

Question for y'all. I have an old 3DS XL, along with a copy of Cubic Ninja. Back when that exploit was found, I took my 3DS XL off the internet and haven't updated it since, so I could preserve the Cubic Ninja exploit to run blargSNES or other emulators.

Anyway, I've preordered the New Nintendo 3DS XL Pokemon bundle, and I'm wondering how I go about getting my content from the old 3DS to the new without doing a forced connect to the internet like Nintendo requires during system transfers? I've got several digital games on the old 3DS I'd like transferred, as well as save data for them as well. Will this be possible without updating the old 3DS XL and losing out on the Cubic Ninja exploit?

What firmware is your 3DS XL on?
Cubic ninja exploit still works and is unlikely to ever be fixed. You could either upgrade to transfer or
Downgrade(depending on your 3ds firmware you might not even need to) + install emuNAND to transfer your content from a 10.5 emuNAND(an emulated system menu loaded from your SD card), while keeping your system on 9.2 and being open for bigger exploits. (Backups, better emulator performance, some different homebrew.)

My n3ds on 9.9 did a "half update". It showed the firmware as 9.2 but everything failed after that.

I updated to 10.3 then tried the downgrade again with no issues.

Tried to install rxTools 10.5 for my new 3ds and it just goes to a blacks screen when I click "rxTools" in the homebrew launcher

could it be because I have CakesFW installed?

Not sure why anyone would want to choose rxTools over Rei, the later is much more stable and reliable

The only reason is for Region Free support built into rxTools, but even then, the process of opening NTR for region free is only <20 seconds after booting up Reinand/Cakes.

Pretty sure I'm on 9.2. Is there a good resource for how to install the 10.5 emuNAND? TIA.

So my gf went and got me shovel knight. I put it in my 3ds and it wont load, its just stuck on the Nintendo 3DS load screen like when I try and go into system settings, fucking hell. cant believe I ruined a brand new 3DS :(

Relax. Don't worry and don't rush. We're here to help you find some options.

Can you get into recovery mode? Don't do anything whilst there. But it's a nice test.

Not to mention that NTR is necessary for several games that require the language patch anyways. I can't think of a reason to move back from Reinand to rxTools.

Was going to get a Fire Emblem N3DSXL, but had an opportunity today to instead get a brand new Black N3DSXL (unopened, still in the box) for $140. Took that since it was on 9.9 and had a top IPS screen.

Took awhile to get browserhax working so I could upgrade to 10.3, but I managed. Tried for an hour to downgrade to 9.2 using browserhax as entry point, got frustrated and set up menuhax and it worked first try. Now the long process of dumping my retail games so I can install them as CIAs. Pretty happy with how things turned out, wasn't so nervous after having had a 'trial' run with my best friend's system.

Okay, well, updated my o3DS to 10.5 and managed to use browserhax, now I am trying to use OOT3Dhax to fix my n3DS that can't access browser or settings, the thing is, because I can't access the settings I can't see what firmware I'm on so I don't know what payload to download. Can anyone help me out? I have attempted a view payloads of what I thought might be correct but OOT just crashes and tells me to restart the console.

EDIT: FINALLY!!!!, thanks to everyone that helped,, finally got it downgraded and fixed.

Cool stuff going on with TWL_FIRM!

TWL Slot-1 Launcher (First custom DSiWare app!)

There's now a flashcard unblocker for DS flashcards that didn't ever even work on the 3DS at all. It's a DSiWare homebrew app that tricks the firmware into launching Slot-1 even if it's a blacklisted card.

rxTools seems to have some new TWL patching ability in its latest nightly version, but only on o3DS at the moment. However, you CAN install a patched version of the n3DS TWL_FIRM as a cia, if you can find A: how to dump TWL_FIRM or grab it from Nintendo's servers and B: how to patch the file once you have it.

(Or you could go looking for a prepatched firmware file, but that's in a bit of a "not-so-legal area" so I can't publicly recommend that.)

Just having TWL_FIRM patched allows you to load flashcards with valid icons (e.g. ones that don't have an "acekard" or "R4" logo on the home menu), but older stuff than that needs the app.

It's interesting stuff, and a result of a bunch of people finally really digging into what they can do with DSi mode. Hell, maybe I was wrong when I said we'd never be loading DS backups off SD. Seems like the sky's the limit at this point.

EDIT: I feel I should probably mention that the cia only needs to be installed on your emuNAND with the destination NAND instead of SD. Don't, I repeat, do NOT bother putting it on sysNAND. It gives you no benefit and is just a ton of added risk.

Hey guys,

I am kinda stuck here. I have a Old3DS (Luigi Design, european) and have a 9.5 firmware.

I wanted to install all the cool homebrew stuff and can start the homebrew channel via the browser.

If I want to downgrade with sysupdater/safesysupdater (doesn't matter) the message: "title Exception: main.cpp:154 :Result: 0xD900182F. Failed to get CIA file info! comes up.

Tried this for three hours yesterday but could not find a solution.

Tried resetting the 3DS, a new SD-Card, downloading and copying all files over and over again. Neither one of that helped.

Any suggestions?

So I assume if a downgrade from 9.4 failed mid way and now the system displays a black unlit screen on boot I bricked it?

Tried with and without micro SD.

Probably, unfortunately.

But, before you toss the thing, try booting into Recovery Mode first. It'll put you on 10.5 which you can't downgrade from without a hardmod, but at the very least your 3DS will work.

Aaaaaaaaaand recovery mode a no go. Thanks Obama.

Will Nintendo service this thing for a fee? Feels bad man.

You could probably get away with it if you conveniently leave out that you were doing homebrew stuff with it. Maybe tell them you got the unit from a friend or something.

I'm not a good liar, sorry :V

The only thing you can do is keep trying. The exploit is super finicky and doesn't always execute properly, which is why you get that error.

Take it from me; I downgraded 3 3DS'es - 1 old, 2 new - and that error popped up more times than I care to count.

Thank you, Mr.

May I ask a few other questions? Do I have to downgrade to 9.2 or could I go straight from 9.5 to install some Firmware? Pasta doesnt start, just flashes once.

Do you think the OoT entry point will make a better choice for installing the downgrade, if I need it?

Cheers, Chris.

You've gotta go down to 9.2, since that's the last version that supports the exploits that CFW uses.

OoT is a fine entry point, but I've heard that the method you launch into homebrew can affect your downgrade exploit launch chances?

I personally used menuhax when downgrading all of my units, and dealt with having to delete the extdata afterward.

And you're welcome, happy to help!

Holy shit, all the reinand installation tutorials are complex and confusing.. I really shouldn't have ever bothered with this but now I'm too determined.

Is it normal to only get 40fps on FF6 even on the n3DS/cia installation ? This was one of the main reason why i even downgraded from running regular 10.3 w Ironhax to sysnand/reinand setup. So far the emulator experience doesnt seem improved at all...hmm...maybe im missing something ?

Good luck man - but you know Gaffers can always help out if there is an issue so youll be fine.
