Is it inevitable that Pokemon Gold, Silver & Crystal will come to the 3DS e-Shop

So at this stage would it be fair to assume we will be getting Pokemon Gold, Silver & Crystal on the 3DS e-Shop? WHEN?!

Gen II is my favourite in the series. So many great memories of this game, it's setting and of course the Pokemon.

I can't remember the exact publication, but when I saw this image my anticipation for the game went through the roof. I was like... they're designing more?! 150 was a lot back in the day and the prospect of new Pokemon and everything that went with it (games, TCG, anime etc) just excited me.

One of the more notable pre-release pieces of concept art was indeed 'Pikablu'

Nowadays, you can hop online and read all about the beta for the games and look at the concept and early artwork as much as you want. There was just something incredibly endearing about my childhood and having just a few small pieces of art in the corner of some magazine - that was all I had to fuel my imagination for the many months it took for the game to release.

The originally planned starting town was called Silent Hills.

I remember reading somewhere how Nintendo apparently didn't want to re-release the old games because they were supposed to be meant for the platforms they were originally released in. But suddenly, money pours out! Hahahahaha!

I could count on this. Then RSE on NX VC. And so on.

Quite unlikely actually.

Not inevitable at all.

You got RGBY because of the 20th anniversary after about a year of complete nothingness on 3DS VC.

You're not getting any more, bet on that.

I really hope they do. Pokemon Gold was the first video game I ever played and I'd love to play it again. With all the money they're making from RBY it would be stupid not to.

Hopefully, now that we know that Pokémon Bank support is possible.
Technically speaking, couldn't one use the DS remakes to catch the Gold and Silver Pokémon and trade them to the latest version?

One advantage of a VC version of Gold and Silver is they won't have battery problems due to the clock system.

I've never seen an anniversary this active.

A new generation, a rerelease of the first generation, and their big new mobile game.

Every long lasting IP should be treated like this.

No. They did not do this earlier because they did not want to release it without the multiplayer functionality.

I think it's pretty likely we get Gold/Silver for VC. Maybe in the second half of the year before Sun/Moon hit.

Nothing compares to the Year of Luigi!

With the save battery issues, there's more of a reason to put Gen 2 up, and it would make sense to get more use out of the wireless enhancements made to the GB/GBC emulator and the PokéBank functionality. Plus there's absolutely no reason not to do it. Regarding the anniversary comments, that's a silly reason to dismiss it, because it's also the franchise in general's anniversary. And it's definitely not Yellow's anniversary yet, nor is it the anniversary of the non-Japanese releases, and technically Blue's anniversary isn't for months. So that's not really a strong point against doing Gen 2 too.

But... As far as the actual odds of it happening go... I mean, this is GameFreak/TPC/Nintendo. Who the fuck knows with them.

I don't know. The anniversary was a special occasion and 3DS could be getting replaced within the year. Maybe on NX VC.

They still have Pokémon 20 (in the Americas and Australia) and Pokémon 20 (in Europe). They can drag this party out all the way to 2019!

I mean, it would sell a shit-ton, just like I assume gen 1 is selling right now on 3DS. They already worked out the pokebank functionality for RBGY, so I'm assuming it'll be a lot easier when they implement it for GSC. Why wouldn't they want to make a lot of money for very little work?

Pokémon Gold was my first Pokémon game, I have so many good memories about it... The day it'll come on the eShop will be the day I'll buy a 2DS. Hopefully with online trades/battles, I don't have any friends :(

I doubt it. You can now run every Pokemon generation natively on the 3DS. Aside from Nostalgia there's no real practical reason to have them on the eShop.

Gee, I dunno. How could they possibly fit it into their already crowded 3DS VC schedule?

If RBY sells like crazy, I say they'll rush it out before the portable NX hits, instead of waiting for GSC's anniversary.

Edit: Forgot that there's a huge three year gap between gen I and II in Japan. Obviously waiting that long would be silly.

I sure hope so. The Gold/Silver/Chrystal generation is easily my favourite. Going back to Kanto after clearing Johto was a magical moments. The game's twice as long!

It's not really twice as long. Johto is more cramped than the original Kanto was and Kanto was really condensed into the bare essentials. It's realistically fifty percent bigger, maybe a bit less.

I feel like they won't do it until G/S's anniversary, but I hope they'll do it. HG/SS is amazing and a wonderful substitute, but those bright, warm GBC colours and chiptune tunes are very nostalgic to me (tho the removed stuff from Kanto because of memory limits is kinda depressing. RIP Viridian Forest)

Never actually owned G/S/C either. Had to stick with Blue while my friend destroyed me with his new monsters in Stadium 2. I did play through a half translated/gibberish rom a cousin got from somewhere before that, which made it more mysterious and magical (the dancing tree stumped me so for months so I was stuck on the first 1/3rd of Jotho). By the time I could borrow my friend's copy of Silver the Pokemania was over for us and I didn't even get through it the game (again).

I think this is the correct answer.

3DS infrastructure is being totally ditched. No use emulating more ganes for VC when they won't be transferable to NX (which Wii U VC is said to be compatible with).

I doubt they will actually but I really want it. By far the best game in the series. Two regions and some of the best designs in the series. I absolutely love it!

I can see all of the GB to DS Pokemon games being released between the 3DS and the Wii U/NX to be honest. Pokemon Bank opens a lot of possibilities.

I really hope they're coming but I somewhat doubt it. I figure it's possible Red/Blue/Yellow sell so well that they decide to put them out, though I doubt we'll see them before Sun/Moon are released.

My best friend had a Japanese copy of Silver, which his grandma had got for him from Japan, some time before the UK launch. I couldn't believe how fantastic it looked, full colour, day and night cycles, even more Pokémon.

Then when I got my own copy there were even more new features to unearth and try out. The jump from RBY to GS was unprecedented to me at the time.

It would be pretty funny if we one day get FireRed and LeafGreen as GBA VC games.

But yeah I definitely think they'll do G/S/C, and eventually R/S/E as well. It's all about timing though, to avoid Pokemon fatigue and space things out evenly because the games are lengthy.

I have Soul Silver, but lacks Pokémon Bank. So if gen II comes with, I'll get asap

I think we might. They see that there's certainly interest. Given the inactivity on the 3DS VC, though, it might be something we wait until NX for. That said, ideally the 3DS (and Wii U) VC libraries carry over this time, so making it for 3DS wouldn't be nonsense in that case.

Don't forget Pokken Tournament!

Remember when Marill was being marketed as the next Pikachu?

The sense of anticipation in the lead up to Pokemon Gold and Silver will never be topped. It was an insane fervor.

EDIT: But obviously, we'll get Silver for the 25th anniversary and Gold for the 50th, as is tradition.

I never played Crystal. If they have it up before the end of summer before everyone gets busy with Sun/Moon, I'll buy it.
