I need a good tower defense game to play.

Anyone got any commendations for something new?

Not sure what you've played, but assuming you probably have the Kingdom Rush games.

If you have an iPad, Crystal Seige is good. Sleep
Attack TD and Tiny Guardians offer cool twists on the genre.

Can't think of any new really good releases. The Kingdom Rush devs are working on a sci-fi RTS; allegedly they were aiming to release this month

Sleep Attack, Crystal Siege, and Sentinel 4 are all pretty good

Quickly realizing how much I suck at games with puzzle elements that aren't either on the same screen or fairly obvious where to go to at least get started.

I really like White Knight but some of the puzzles require looking all over the school to even find clues. Didn't expect a horror game to have this difficult of puzzles to solve. I don't mind having to think through challenging puzzles but goose chases to progress are annoying.

Need a walkthrough but everything out there is for the PC version which is vastly different.

How'd you handle The Room games?

Not very well TBH. ;)

I have only played the first one and at least you didn't have to walk aimlessly around looking for something without even having an idea of what you may be looking for.

I like certain type of puzzle games like Portal or The Talos Principle are great. Puzzle platformers, games like Swapperoo, number based puzzles like The Mesh, Shadowmatic, Perfect Paths, Divide by Sheep, Furdemption, etc. Really all kinds of puzzle games.

But I really haven't been in love with games like The Room, which I know is blasphemy to mobile gamers, but just not my thing.

Yeah played all the Kingdom Rush games, first three Sentinels, Tiny Guardians, Cursed Treasure and Demons av Fairyland.

Maybe I'll check out Sentinel 4

So I've played 80 Days, the Sorcery! games and the Hero Choice Of games. Is there anything good left for me to play similar in style?
Personally I liked Heavy Metal Thunder

Ryan North's To Be or Not To Be is hilarious, and definitely worth checking out

Blood & Laurels is interesting, but not as visual-heavy as 80 Days, Sorcery, or some of the others

Fallen London is coming out next month. Now that's a huge one to keep an eye on. Going to give 80 Days and Sorcery a run for their money

If you liked the Sorcery! games, you might want to check out Joe Dever's Lone Wolf.

I'll check all of those out, thanks!

I hadn't heard about Fallen London, but I'll keep an eye on it!

Sunless Sea is actually the spin-off. And Fallen London is HUGE

How huge? 80 Days, after all the updates, was around 750k words of content

Fallen London has 1.5 million+ words, more than double.
I had no idea that that Sunless Sea was a spinoff of anything 0_o

Mind blown. Diving in now.

It's from the developer of Sunless Sea if you're familiar with that game

Any rumours of a Sunless Sea port?
See what I did there?

I've got it already, but haven't even fired it up yet, in front of a compter all day, so prefer comfy couch gaming these days.

There's also a new TD out today called Onion Force that looks interesting. Apparently one of the devs was an animator for Disney.

I had good memories about it. It was an interesting take on the usual TD formula. I couldn't ever get the "make your own beat" aspect of it to work though. I think I picked up bad habits from levels where you have so much money that you can spam towers and it sounds like, well, spam, I imagine.

I had no idea that they disbanded. I liked Nightmare Cooperative too
Sadly, NC didn't sell well. They moved on in 2014

If anyone plays Bejeweled Blitz I wouldn't update it, I just downloaded an update and now the game crashes every time I try to start it.

dragon-land-2-300x169.png

Started playing Dragon Land on my iPad this morning. Graphics are cute, but it ultimately feels like a flaccid mix of Spyro and Mario 3D Land. The F2P hooks start quickly. It has a rechargeable lives system, so a couple of stages into Episode 2 it started nagging me to pay for more lives, or to wait for a timer.

My son is in love with Love you to bits, like myself.

But even more, those other games references are just brilliant, loving them too.

For the ones interested, Lost Socks dev is pretty active on TA and they seem *really* committed in making their game even better AND more approachable by a general audience.

Here is a video of button customization at work:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNjU9yNA6tg

Besides that, they are apparently working on adding iCloud sync, MiFi controller support and rebalancing the whole game to be less hardcore (not sure if this will be an alternative mode, probably yes).
The easier mode focus on rewarding much more the player that 'just' complete a level without perfecting it, plus other changes to make life easier and let everyone enjoy the game...so hopefully people who got it and were frustrated may like the game once the update is live.

While I've already completed the game, I welcome a less hardcore mode if this means more people enjoying it and let them do more stuff like this!!!

Will give it another go when the balance is better + MFi. They should try to get it on tvOS too.

The dev is really involved which is always great to see. I'm having trouble getting past 2-8 but really want to try to beat it as it is today (and not wimp out). Probably one thing I'd like tweaked, even in the current "hardcore" mode, is unlocking the 5 hearts earlier.

I think the difficulty of the levels overall is perfect but unlocks could be easier to obtain or have an alternate way to obtain them through high gold prices or something (NOT IAPs!).

Reading through some of the recent posts in the TA thread for Lost Socks, it does sound like he wants to do some balancing for unlocks. That's really the only change I'd want.

I nearly finished 100%ing the first world of Lost Socks, man this game is fucking hard. It's damn satisfying though. I really like the combo and points system, and despite having on-screen buttons I haven't felt like the controls have screwed me over yet (my hands started cramping up though).

Main complaint I have is the chest/3 challenges which makes you back track to older levels to complete them before rotating out new ones (levels which already have an incentive to go back with the stars & points awards). Would rather they just have different challenges for each level or have a giant list of them that you complete as you go.

Otherwise I definitely recommend trying it if you're looking for a hardcore platformer, and/or liked the Rayman games/Earthworm Jim. It's very polished and can take up a lot of time if you're going for full completion. Just be prepared to get your ass beat.
