Don't call it an acquisition: Kinda Funny joins Rooster Teeth's "Let's Play family"

Seems like a pretty unfounded fear, I was a fan of Inside Gaming, Funhaus is pretty much exactly the same, same guys, humor, everything.

The only difference is that they sometimes mention the RT guys and occasionally Burnie and Geoff are over there.

They've been pretty good at keeping the channels they're involved with distinct.

I just don't want them appearing on KF content, I skipped the Gamescast with Adam from Funhaus because I can't stand him, I'd hate to have to skip their content every other week because someone else is on there

Funhaus/Rooster Teeth humor is really adolescent IMO. It's really not for me and I can understand why a lot of Gaffers feel averse towards the content.

Very much this

I'm not that bothered about the Kinda Funny news as I don't follow them, but the RT content tends to skew towards a younger audience. That's smart, because that's where the YT money really is, but I can see why people who follow them would be turned off and worried that they may affect their content.

RT's podcasts are allright sometimes, but their produced content is overlong, derivative, and aimed at pre-teens. It's like a channel that built an empire out of Annoying Orange, and it seems to be consuming competitors at a steady pace. It feels corporate and manufactured. There are too many cooks in the kitchen.

And usually when any content creator releases a thing telling people not to worry, it's not what it looks like, it's pretty much exactly what it looks like, so GG RIP.

We’re teaming up with Rooster Teeth for Let’s Play, a creative community of likeminded gamers. It means that we’ll be in more of their videos, they’ll be in more of ours, and our content is going to pop up on the Let’s Play YouTube channel.

This is where crowdfunding got you, backers.

As a KF best friend, I support the guys through and through but this feels more like a business decision than the crowd funded group I know. Can't blame em, but their patrons pay for them, they pay for Colin, Greg, etc. I don't jive with the rooster teeth personalities and it's hard to watch them do let's plays of games they wouldn't normally play or be lost in the RT crowd (as is evidence by the let's play that went up today).
Will this decision lead to better quality stuff I do like from them in the future? Probably. But right now it feels like they want to be Rooster Teeth, but I don't think that's what their fans want. I don't know, color me concerned.

I've been enjoying RT less ever since Ray left... =(

Same here. :(

I enjoy watching the Funhaus crew every now and again as well as the RT Podcast but other than that they have been going downhill. Still not quite sure why they are disliked so much here though.

Guys just got done answering a few questions on C&G live and basically what I took from it was if I didn't like it then I wasn't a true "best friend" in the first place and to "fuck off" so I guess I will go ahead and do that.

Content partnerships with people they may or may not like, as has been the case with GameSpot for the past year?

GameSpot is pretty professional at least, appealing to the same niche.

People who produce and sign-off on a podcast where people in plastic Fallout 4 Pip-Boys deride critics that dare to criticise Fallout 4? Less professional.

Great.

Maybe now they can all get roles in Psychonauts 2 due to obnoxious and annoying fan support.

Don't worry they take anyone. No experience necessary. Just social media presence is required.

Kinda Funny isn't partnering with The Know. They're partnering with Let's play, who's boss openly mocked the people involved in the shilling that went on on The Know's podcast.

But right now it feels like they want to be Rooster Teeth, but I don't think that's what their fans want.

This nails it, for me. I've always been uncomfortable with their admiration of RT and seeming desire to emulate them, and I wonder now if this is just a step towards something more concrete. And I don't think KF fans, who are predominately enthusiast gamers, are interested in an RT-like direction.

if you didn't get the joke maybe you shouldn't be watching Kinda Funny. Delete your twitter too

I forgot to include the quote about their future being unclear in terms of an acquisition.

How likely do you believe it would be for their Patreon page to stay open in the scenario they were flat-out purchased? If that were the case, sure, they should be pissed. It's not though, so I'm not really getting how that flies.

You should really watch C&GLive if you think anyone at Kinda Funny cares about professionalism

I assumed this would be the answer, they essentially say this whenever someone goes against the grain.

My friend wrote some constructive criticism about the animated show and was told the shows for true best friends and people who get them. Funny thing is that he put me on to Beyond way back in the day.

I'm hoping the shows I like don't suffer too much from this collabo, I'll be skipping this Let's Play stuff either way.

I respect what RT's got going, but this is the reason why I don't care for their content. It can seem very juvenile at times, even if it may be "mature" content. KF can be goofy and silly, but I feel like in the end the discourse and discussion is more mature.

I don't even know what Rooster Teeth is. Heard of them, have no clue who any of them are. As long as PSILY stays the same that's all I care about, I don't look at any of their other content.

I recently saw they have like 2 patreons bringing in like a total of $50,000 a month. That's insane.

Maybe not professionalism then, but integrity? A semblance of journalistic standards?

Who at RT is a journalist? Even Greg and Colin are trying to move away from the journalist tag.

C seemed pretty serious about it. Not everything is a joke. Somewhat like what is going on here.

Colin is dead serious about it. He doesn't care if you don't like something, and he legitimately wants to get bought out so he can live the true dream of never doing anything ever again.

can we get some direct quotes?

if that's seriously how they roll then that's incredibly insulting as someone who's championed them for a long time now, and was just talking about how cool i found the "best friends" family idea to be.

if they're going to act like this "if you aren't for us you're against us" kind of mentality then it would make me ashamed to have ever supported them. just wow.

IGN partnership next?

Unless you meant GOG/Gamescast/PSILYXOXO, Greg and Colin haven't been on Beyond for about a year now.

Also been championing them for a while and can say that this kind of mentality has been slowly growing. Wasn't like this at the beginning, but now, as they grow, it feels like they don't mind being like that and losing some fans because they have plenty others.

A commenter said something along the lines of KF is lying about this not affecting content and it's the same bullshit you hear around every acquisition.

Colin said if you think they're lying to your face that you can fuck off and go elsewhere.

They've been polite and reasonable in response to concerns when the concerns are expressed in a mature manner.

It's kinda taken out of context, they were responding to a rude message regarding this situation, so the answer was specific to that guy.

I'm just starting to follow them since the whole GT closure, and now they come with this partial bought? why? do they needed the money?

also, someone please put the quotes or a link to where Colin sent to "fuck off" someone, I knew the guy is really negative, but I want to corroborate it

I'm just praying that this day never comes for Mega64.

Man me too. Mega64 has an authenticity that Rooster Teeth lacks, and treats their fans a lot better. Not that an acquisition would change that over night, but I just hope Mega64 stays independent. Rooster Teeth used to feel authentic in the early years, but as they've grown, they've lost a lot of it in favor of becoming a content factory, with infinite employees; that spends way too much time bragging/lamenting their struggles with "fame".

Comes with the territoryof getting bigger I guess. Nonetheless, still disappointing.

They weren't bought at all, and as some stated earlier, Colin was responding to someone on stream who accused them of lying.

However nervous I might be about this, gotta remember Greg Miller has been doing killer work through and through. With games and with Batman V Superman stuff. He's a good guy, deceptively smart too, I'm happy for him getting whatever he wants, and if that isn't what I want from them, that's fine.

It's not how "they" roll really, it's how Colin rolls.

considering Greg never really deviates (or rather goes to heavily against the grain of) Colin's stances on things, that doesn't settle well with me.

i'm not really into Nick or Tim, and would be perfectly fine with just C&G, so with Colin taking this position on it i don't foresee much reason to watch or support them anymore.

it's actually hilariously hypocritical considering Colin's political leanings. or maybe his "join or die" tattoo was meant to be taken literally?

Didn't they work together last E3? They've been very friendly and both speak highly of the other. This doesn't surprise me.

pretty early to see if they lose interest through patreon, the announcement is just made.

in any case, I wonder if a patreon change would make them take action... any action
