Brigandier what difficulty did you play on, was it hard or perfect balance? I'm thinking of starting on Normal so I can have a Hard mode to play afterwards (don't like crushing).

Thanks so much for your impressions :) Did you beat the game already?
No but I'm damn close :)
So best game in the series, but not as big of an impact?

Hard to say without having finished the entire thing yet but I'd say that's fair. At least for my own personal beliefs. 4 games deep means some of the charm and gimmicks wear off and people become more critical of the series overall but from a sheer gameplay standpoint? definitely the most fun and free to play

Will you be putting up a review or impressions on your channel? Be interested to hear/see your thoughts in more depth at some point. I know a couple of my relatives etc follow you as well, so they'll get some nice input on the game too.

How is the humour? As good as ever?

Personally? no, because I think those had a bigger impact on me at the time of their releases. U4 is DAMN good though! Best scenery and combat in the series so far

I get where you're coming from, the game could be absolute perfection in every way, but Uncharted 2 was such a massive improvement over 1, and The Last of Us was such a relevatory experience that there's no way 4 could match them. Just simply because no one could have expected how amazing those two games would be, but with 4 everyone knows it's gonna be amazing, so it kind of lacks that surprise .

Almost done with the game and I'm still floored. Absolutely my favorite in the franchise, the set pieces are not as long but just as exciting and thrilling and feel spread out but just right. The Jeep gameplay is fun mixed in and the battles and ability to move around, stealth, and agility all get bigger and better. Also this is pretty much Indiana Jones meets Goonies.. and I.. I just can't say enough. Holy shit. Also took my ps4 to my folks this afternoon, my Father watched me play the game for a few hours. He never does that. Ever!

Normal, I also second what Jack is saying regarding scenery and combat being best in the series so far.

Considering these are two of my all time faves, this is music to my eyes.

...were Uncharted setpieces ever that lengthy? Besides the UC2 train of course. Stuff like the UC2 collapsing building and UC3 plane were always pretty brief in the grand scheme of things.

Hmm.. UC4 sounds like it'll be the GTA V of the series. The best playing one and arguably more accomplished game but San Andreas(Or Vice City) had a bigger impact at that time.

In that case, that's just a personal feeling and not a actual con of the game. Nostalgia and timing plays a role.

I never found any of them to be that lengthy.

The UC4 E3 Demo setpiece seemed longer than any set piece in the franchise, which is why I'm a little surprised people are claiming there's less of them. Unless ND somehow spilled the beans on the biggest set piece in the game, which is possible of course.

Either way, the set pieces didn't necessarily make the games good, they just fleshed out the package.

Arguably, UC3 had the best set pieces but the game itself was a huge letdown because they weren't integrated intelligently into the game, and the overall combat design and pacing was not up to snuff.

Having played the Beta, this is easily the best *playing* game ND has ever made. Sublime mechanics. So I know the gameplay is going to deliver. If they can manage to make a competently woven package of the other elements in the series, there's no way it can disappoint.

I recently replayed UC3 with a friend who had never played it, and I found myself just wanting to get to the set pieces because the game that's wrapped around them is pretty lackluster.

UC2 doesn't have this problem.

ND built UC3 around the set pieces, and the entire game suffered for it.

Nah they weren't long. The only long ones are the train, cargo ship/shipyard, burning chateau and the caravan from 3 was fairly long (but the one we've seen from 4 is already longer than that, or about the same length)

I don't think anyone said there's less of them, I think they said they're just more grounded and less "bombastic" meaning Drake isn't hanging off a rocket ship that's taking off or fighting through a collapsing building while copters and stuff are bombing the building. If anything, the E3 set piece for how dynamic and long it was looked much more fun to play than anything from UC2/3. They look like they can be experienced differently in some respects.

Thanx for the impressions jacksepticeye!

it's always nice to see different impressions and not just the "easily the best one in the series" ones.

Yes and no. There's still a lot of wit and the chemistry between characters is incredible. Especially the brothers, there's a few exchanges that made me chuckle and they really do feel like brothers. The game has a darker tone to it all though, things are less wacky and more straightforward this time and Nate has matured a lot as a character.
To be honest it's a very nice change of pace. It's not a negative as it fits very well.

The car one so far is the longest but the others are exciting no less. So many good moments, amazing views and vistas. Prepare to use that photo/share button a lot!!!

nice.

and does the story feel strong throughout?
Yes! Definitely. It has clear motivations and doesnt stray from them. It's very consistently well paced too and keeps driving forward all the time. A very nice improvement over U3s messy pacing. Globe trotting doesnt feel shoe horned in this time.

The theme behind it and whatnot. Yes def, it has more emotional weight to it then any of the other games imo.

Excellent.

Thank you so much guys, really appreciate the impressions!!

Sure. I do appreciate the change though!

At least it sounds like he didn't kill off all the major characters within the first half of the game, like some feared. :p

This is based on nothing but the impressions in here btw, I don't know any story spoilers.

What about the soundtrack guys? Everything I heard from the released media has been great imo. But how does the complete package turned out?

Also, Nate's Theme 4.0. How awesome is it? Haha

It's crazy to think these glowing impressions aren't even with MP factored in. COOP and the rest of the MP may be just as big and we dont 'know a thing yet.

I also consider the sniper towers/collapsing bridge crossing in the Monestary section in UC2 a set piece. As long as there's some of those, people will be happy.

This worries me as it sounds like the The Last of Us. Uncharted and TLoU are tonally opposite and I would prefer it stay that way.

Sounds nothing like it.
