Bought this long time ago with a similar sale. This is awesome. Cant go back to Photoshop or Painter with this.

I just need to wait for the 1.5.5 update for Color and Luminosity Blending mode. After that and I cannot ask for more.

How does this differ from Manga Studio 5? They seem to be related somehow.

They are the same software. Manga Studio was its western name. Now they removed the confusion by sticking to CSP name worldwide (Manga Studio sounds cooler though)

It's the same thing. Just different name and distributor; Manga Studio 5 is the physical ver from Smith Micro (a licensor), Clip Studio is straight from Celsys available digitally.

edit: listen to the post below me, didn't know MS5 wasn't updated since I've only owned the Celsys version

Manga Studio 5 started as English translated version of Clip Studio Paint (Manga Studio 4 was translated version of a different software). After a while, Celsys decided to just sell to US customers themselves directly, cutting out Smith Micro.

Manga Studio 5 version is a bit outdated compared Clip Studio Paint from Celsys. If you want the latest UI and features, get the Celsys Clip Studio Paint.

Oh thanks, I've been using Artrage but that program can be frustrating to use at times. I'm just gonna buy this because it looks like a really solid program for the price.

yep, this program is absolutely a must have for any digital art needs. Works well with my cintiq and I actually prefer it to photoshop although I need to learn how to do some things better within CSP...

Buy it !

I have manga studio 5. Is there a reason I should "upgrade" to this? Like right now, I know that MS5 isn't updated and this is.

If you are on a multi-touch device, the UI improvements from MS5 is worth $20 IMO. On Cintiq 21UX or something without multitouch, not so much.

I shouldn't even be considering this (I just moved to MS5 from MS4 three months ago), but what sort of features does Clip Studio have that MS5 doesn't?

You should get it for free then. You can update ms5 to csp for free iirc

Oh, then maybe I really should be looking into this.

I have a MacBook Pro and have wanted to draw digital for a while now. What would be a good place to start with this s program. I need a compatible, affordable pad and pencil.

Depends on your definition of affordable, but for now I'll just assume that Wacom's pricing isn't it.

Good drawing tablet for under $100 is the Huion H610 Pro for $76.99 on Amazon. It has OSX drivers. Here's some reviews that were linked to me by a friend when I was shopping around:

Get on this. It's one of the best programs bar none for digital illustration. I've completely ditched Photoshop in favor of Clip Studio.

The brush options don't feel as versatile to me. I dunno.

If you're used to Photoshop's extensive brush settings and options, then Clip Studio's will probably feel a little limiting. The options in Clip Studio suit my needs, but I can't speak for everyone. For me, the pros of the program far outweigh some of Photoshop's features that aren't carried over. For the price, there's really little to complain about IMO, and it's one of the best deals (and one of the easiest) programs out there to get started with digital art on.

I'm sure part of it is that I don't understand them as well.

I definitely agree with you there. I was surprised to see how easily my workflow carried over EXCEPT for the brush settings where I felt limited (and frankly a little confused).

Edit: At 20 dollars it's a steal though.

Wait what about the recent update to Clip from Manga? Is that version of Clip still behind?

Try Paolo's and Frenden's brushes.

Been looking at Frenden's brush set myself, how does that webshop work? Do I get any of the updates he does for free or do I need to buy them separately? And can I redownload them without problem or is it a one-time download only?

I'm getting some weird issues with my hand triggering the brush to draw when I'm resting my hand to draw. I'm on a surface pro 2. It could be very well my device since I had to restart it several times for the driver to even work (on an OS level, had nothing to do with CSP), but right now the palm rejection is pretty screwy.

Frenden will email you with the links for the updated brush packs if needed. The webshop always asks your email for registration purposes

I don't even remember if CSP actually supports hand gestures and stuff like that... Gotta look it up then

Updates are emailed to you and yes, you can redownload them.

Neat, thanks for the info guys. I'll probably get both Frenden's and Paolo's sets when I have the spare cash.

buying to check if I can import my Photoshop pencil tests into it to do final line-work. only had manga studio until now.

edit:seems like animation cells and layers behave differently and only cells are tied to time, that would make it really annoying to import a project from Photoshop.

It does. If I touch the drawing with my finger I can drag to pan the image and I can use two fingers to pinch zoom and rotate.

Typically drawing apps reject all palm/finger input if it detects any pen hover, but for CSP sometimes it works that way and sometimes it doesn't. It's weird.

Awesome, well I have bought the software, I read the reviews for that tablet, the price is right. Since I'm just starting out it seems to be a pretty good choice. The software and tablet would get me in at about $100. Can anyone confirm it works well in this software, and it would be a decent choice? Risette, not sure if you have that exact model and tried it in that program. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, the two work together great. Just get the latest drivers off Huion's site. (here, then click the downloads tab and select the Apple icon where it says "driver for H610 Pro". You should install these before plugging the tablet in)

e: Also, I'm on OSX too so if you're worried about that angle, it's all good too

Thanks, I really appreciate you. Can you point me to any sites or videos to learn the basics of the software while I wait for amazon to deliver the tablet?? my MacBook is only 13 inches but I have an external monitor too. Do you think I can use this software on the go with that small of a screen?

https://www.youtube.com/user/Celsysweb/search?query=tutorial+eng (they don't have a playlist of this)

Celsys has a decent set of tutorial vids on their channel, it's six videos and should be the first six results in the search I linked above, albeit out of order. Not the most detailed but enough to get a comfortable start in using the software. I liked them. Screen is personal preference probably.

As a mischief and photoshop user I'm not sure if I really need this, but you can't argue with a $20 price tag.

Same here. I've been enjoying the versatility of using brushes like those from Kyle Webster in Photoshop on my Surface Pro 4 (sometimes using my Intuos4 tablet), so I'm not really sure if I need this. That price is so tempting tho

Does this have a CMYK mode?

Thanks for the heads up, I've been working with Photoshop for ages, but trying out new software is always fun!
