I tried to trade for SQ before today but it didn't work out. I bet the price goes up now. Oh well.
I'm having much more fun playing Legacy and Commander at this point anyway. I don't really see myself going back to Standard.

I mean it's probably going to see Legacy play in all honesty. But the price will fluctuate.

It's another case of "jump on them when Kirblar says to" in this thread. I'm pretty sure he pointed SQ out in here and I jumped on them at something like 8 a pop.

In another episode of called it Gisela dropped 14 bux , Ishkanah went up 6 and spell queller gained 7 bux in just the last week.

These things arent hard to see ahead of time , Gisela is a 4 mana spell that does nothing the turn she comes down , dies to every removal spell seeing a small amount of play, and does nothing against a 4/5 sylvan advocate, or a dragonlord silumgar.

Ishkanah is where you want to be right now, a 3/5 with reach that produces bodies , the one g/w deck that did the best played 2 of these , and i think they didnt regret it all weekend.

Spell queller is just dumb, the thing was they KNEW before releasing it that it would make bant company ridiculous , and then just didnt care.

I expect Dragonlord Ojutai to make an appearance soon , a 5/4 flyer that cant be reflector maged or spell quellered is a big deal, pair it with things like always watching and blessed alliance to bait out removal and you have a pretty good anti spirits measure. In fact after this weekend id be taking a good look at anything with hexproof in this set.

Spell queller is a RARE I don't expect it to be above $10 dollars since Moon is going to be heavily opened. Hell most planeswalkers minus have aren't more than $20 a piece. Queller will be expensive for the first month or so then it will come back to earth like avacyn did.

Gisela/Bruna just haven't found a home yet. Bw control seemed to be pretty good since Gisela can't be quelled and it had very good stats. I expect her and her sis to find a tier 2 deck until company rotates.

Can't really ask for more than a 10 dollar rare. That Gisela won't hold the price was fairly obvious, she just dies to everything and exile makes it hurt doubly so. I totally undersold Ishkanah, though I mostly saw it in light of EDH. Even then I told a friend of mine to hold onto his promo and he went and traded his prerelease promo for chump change.

From the list of Modern decks at SCG Columbus,
* Mono-White Hatebears - Surprised to see Brimaz and new Odric. I'm confused as to why there's only one Flagstones of Trokair, when the entire point is to have multiples.
* Burn - First, I'm surprised this is three colors. I'm surprised by the inclusion of Exquisite Firecraft, but I'm most surprised by Reality Hemorrhage. Thinking about it, it's probably for Etched Champion, but it's still surprising.
* Scapeshift - I'm surprised to see Commune with Lava. Come to think of it, if Standard does shift toward control decks to deal with Collected Company decks, could this see play?

Magic PAX West schedule, looks really exciting.

You know, the talk at the start of this thread of splitting the Eldritch Moon thread from the Shadows over Innistrad thread instead of creating a new one from scratch reminds me of another feature available to moderators: merging.

charlequin, would it be possible to create a thread for Magic's PAX events (which include both Kaladesh and the World Magic Championship), and then merge it back into this thread when it's over? Back during the planning for the Battle for Zendikar thread, the idea of covering PAX in it was rejected due to the long period of time where nothing happens afterward, but this solution would avoid that.

Making Magic - Odds & Ends: Eldritch Moon, part 1. It confirms that meld indeed was controversial in R&D. Apparently some developers avoided even playtesting meld cards, since they were sure they were going to be cut out of the set.

Interesting short article about how Magic helped children struggling with problems.

I played a guy who assembled Brunela and then promptly lost to my sandbagged Blighted Fen.

there was a zoo list that could win on t3 with boros swiftblade and might of alara

anyway i've just seen the list and it doesn't even deserve to be called aggro smh

Yeah, the domain lists I know, but this one is weird as hell with the pillars of the paruns and the ancient ziggurats and all that crap.

My EMN boxes were ok I guess.

2 Lilianas
1 Emerakul
2 Splendid Reclamation
1 FOIL Splendid Reclamation
1 Ulrich
1 Gisa and Geralf
1 Spell Queller
1 FOIL Bruna
3 Cryptbreaker

Was really hoping for a Tamiyo, Sudden Dismissal, more Spell, Quellers, and the 7 drop mythic enchantment.

So often over the weekend I've seen situation that made me think. Sinister Concotion would have handled that.

Yeah, but its card disadvantage that doesn't really get around all that many things of relevance.

I think its a lot better to just not let them assemble Brunela, tbh.

So instead of doing a singular party with spoilers (like they did from, IIRC, Zendikar to Theros) or a goofy "preview" show (like they did with BFZ last year), WotC's promo plan for Kaladesh at PAX this year is to run a track throughout the 4 day convention talking about the set, mechanics, creative, and show preview cards throughout. To me this seems like a much smarter play (and much more stream-friendly) than previous years; keeps excitement all weekend and does a much better job of promoting the set to non-attending fans. (Plus, no ridiculous Youtube "celebrities" involved.)

Been busy with overtime at work.

Got 3rd at fmn draft.

I only lost to a guy playing monoblack BC nobody else at table took black.

It was so bad that I was across from him at table and drafting red green and ended up with a caused witch necropod and black -3 spell splashed by a deatcap and the sweet new colorless emerakul mana rock

People just try to force at fmn and the better drafters that stay open get better decks.

Opened a tamiyo in my 2 prize packs

Also it feels like they're going all out because the set must be fucking amazing.

The build/invent your own thing they keep hyping up must be some sort of mechanic.

Rosewater reiterated again recently that explicitly unlike the last few blocks, he was hyping this one on the Ravnica/Innistrad level. I think it's gonna be hella good.

Based on the preview schedule I reposted a couple days ago I think the first preview week actually starts on the last day of PAX, so we should probably just start the thread right beforehand.

The fact it has some sort of equipment shenanigans in it is driving me wild

What if vehicles are equipment too? Imagining it like Batman summoning the batmobile.

In that case, perhaps the thread should initially be called "Magic: the Gathering |OT9| Kaladesh - PAX livestream and World Championship", and then on Monday, it can be renamed to "Magic: the Gathering |OT9| Kaladesh - Show her how far Magic has come since Super Mario World" (not actual title), when I can made an actual opening post.

I'm leaving 5 potential spots open in my Cube for cool Kaladesh artifacts. Please print some broken stuff WotC, you ALWAYS do on artifact blocks! Don't disappoint me this time.

Works.

lmao, do I get to choose which third? Okay, here's the artist information and the bottom of the text box, but that's all you get to see.

It's ridiculous that cavern wasn't in EMN, there's 1 hard counter to creatures that's being played. Other than that 1 hard counter sees fringe play.
In addition to that the set introduced 2 counters that don't feature the word counter and a spell o-ring . It was an absolutely free inclusion, heck it'd have been the perfect excuse to make blue strong again.

You'll get broken green or broken white and like it.

I'm fine with that too actually! Blue and Black have so many OP cards I find myself first picking a blue or black card and forcing blue or black decks all the time.
Plus blue and black have so many possible cool reprints in Conspiracy, Exhume and Mind Twist would be amazing, Opposition and Upheaval too.

Interesting wording

Cavern could always see reprinting in Conspiracy 2, right?

I mean it would be shocking. But it could.

I have this alternate theory its in Modern Masters 3 because $10 packs
