Edit: Oh, people got tired of it. Sorry, won't do it again.

But HD is already HD. as of right now we are just being forced into UHD to make money for the television companies to get a push out of more expensive televisions
4k has been desired for a long time among movie fans since it's a major film standard. HDR alongside it makes for a significant improvement in picture quality.

i guess your right, but i don't really see the appeal right now i guess. i'm fine with my 1080p 50in

NBA 2K17 is going to support HDR. Is that the first 3rd party game to do so? Pretty excited to see if other 3rd parties will support it this year as well. FFXV with HDR would be gooooooooood.

I don't care about 4k right now buy I still want higher resolutions due to downsampling.

I would take that over most other graphical improvements.

What kind of cache? eDRAM?

Also, are you talking about 2 stacked dies? How are you gonna cool that thing? Die stacking works in mobile SoCs, because they're extremely low-power to begin with.

The APU & GPU wouldn't be stacked on top of each other but stacked on top of a interposer it could be a MCM like the picture below but replace Greenland GPU with the 36 CU Polaris chip & replace the Zeppelin CPU with the APU from the PS4 slim

We look back on the reaction when we first learned about PS4K,Scorpio and mid gen upgrade.
I'm just going to bet on this either being a HDMI and other non-gaming components upgrade (VR breakout box built in) that could result in 4k gaming (using the same existing power of the ps4, so it'd probably be very simple games if at all possible).

or that it's actually PS5 that Sony's talking about (due to this being a shorter generation and a likely 2018 release possible for the ps5) and the devs are thinking it's an inbetween console due to mixed messaging.
hahaha

Also, my initial reaction was really negative, as I thought it would have exclusive games/skus and what not, came around pretty quickly once legit details started coming out. By the time OsirisBlack posted his topic (over a week later), I was fully on board.

I really hope so. BF1 in HDR would probably look incredible.

Maybe, but seeing is believing. Once you see the 4K w/HDR there is no return.

This...

I have probably sold more 4k TV's just by having friends and family coming over to watch movies than a regular person working at Best Buy. Once you see a good 4k Set that has been Calibrated and in HDR it is quite stunning. Gaming in 4k is pretty incredible. You should see Witcher 3 at max settings at 4k/60fps. It is sublime.

The thread got sidetracked by someone who mentioned the Scorpio and its been downhill since then.

I personally would leave it at the sentiment that Sony does not have to worry about the Scorpio while pursuing their own strategy
I'd agree with that, and as far as we know, that strategy was to launch in Q1 with as much as 5.5TF. As you say, it's unlikely they'd let MS sway them from this just as a general rule, but I'd say the Scorpio announcement gave them even less reason to do so. I suppose they could go Option B then "react" to Scorpio with a 10% upclock… That'd be pretty funny.

But developers will still want to sell the game on other platforms, and by revealing the version of the game the smallest audience will actually play seems counterintuitive - that is assuming Neo updates add more then just an increase in resolution.
This is actually the perfect venue. You show them the standard version they can buy and play today, and the enhanced version they'll be playing if and when they upgrade to Neo. All theirs for one, low price…

I really can't see there being 2 different distinct Neo modes. If there is a 1080p mode with a lot of bells and whistles vs. a 4k mode that has the same effects as standard PS4, who would bother with the 4k mode? just upscale it
I generally agree, but it sounds like Sony are pushing Faux-K techniques that won't waste quite as much power as normal. Guess we'll see how that goes.

It's fairly clear that from the leaked presentstion that dev feedback indicates 'many' games are doing some kind of additional enhancement at 1080p while others are 'just' downsampling from the UHDTV buffer when outputting to 1080p. Which is preferable to the user might vary a lot depending on what's on offer.
It also depends on the dev and the game. Something like Nom Nom Galaxy probably wouldn't get or need anything more sophisticated than 4K native with downsampling. Games that already have "settings" on the PC version will likely get multiple performance targets, depending on the console and the display in question. Top-tier 1st-party stuff too, I'd imagine.

This thread constantly remind 40 fellow PS4 owners how outdated & old our PS4 are.
Not cool, not cool.
Fixed.

don't ignore me bruh
Did you guys hear something?

Here's my prediction and it's maybe way off and just for fun

7tf
12gbram

March

It may very well be in the 4.5 range and coming very soon this year.

I think it's impossible to guess because Sony could simply decide to release it as planned and do the same thing in 18 that out performs microsoft.

Price and microsoft will play heavily in what Sony is doing.

I would have said it was an easy call with vr and it may still be but they don't want to give up the better machine stigma as I feel they think it's been helpful in thiwr success which may be true somewhat but not overall

If they would have been one hundred cheaper the whole time feel they would have a much greater lead

They should concentrate on more and more games imo

A really big exclusive for them such as cod gta would do more for them than any price or power difference anyways. I think those published could work out a deal and test it to see if they gain or lose much considering how many more ps4s would sell. I don't think the numbers for the software would be as low as people think and for some titles exclusive could actually make it sell more. Final fantasy is one of those imo

My final predictions going into the press conference:

  • Price Points: $249 USD / $329 CAD Slim & $449 USD / $529 CAD NEO
  • Additional NEO Features: 4K Bluray Capabilities, HDR?, Improved Game Fidelity, 5G Wifi (Like Slim)
  • NEO Game Fidelity: Improved Lighting/Textures, etc @ 1080p@60fps or 1440p+@30fps
  • NEO Power: 5 TF (+/-.5 TF), GGDR5 or similar RAM, Slightly Improved CPU to decrease bottlenecks.
  • NEO Design: 10lbs (+/-1.5lbs), Same design as Slim but larger with an extra layer.
Locked in.

Slim + Neo - absolutely. My body and bank account are both ready: part funded by trading in OG PS4.

Why would you get the Slim and Neo? Or are you thinking that Neo will not come soon and you will get a Slim in the mean time?

Careful now, you're making me want to go buy one right this minute.

Where is the best source to learn about HDR basics, uses, setup, what it does/doesn't do etc?

One done, just need some old and new games using the NEO patch.

Predictions:

PS4 Slim: $299 w/ game bundle, possibility of standalone at $249 but unlikely before Black Friday I think.

Neo: $399 at 4.6 TF with the big showcase game being UC4 DLC and Horizon. Late October release.

Alongside GoW and Horizon as showcases for Neo, I think Days Gone would also make quite an excellent showpiece for the systems powers.

That feeling when you get your check from the school and now you have enough money to get a PS4 Neo, PSVR, PSlim if I want one, TLG, Bioshock Collection, Dishonored 2, Watch Dogs 2, and FF15. Fall Greatness Awaits.

I expect them to be near Osirisblack's initial leak. Anything higher than that and i'll be pleasantly surprised. Best to keep my expectations in check and not be dissapointed
Yeah, I'm not expecting anything above 5 tflops and a jag. I probably won't be a buyer anytime soon unless it can play most games at 60 fps.
