iOS Gaming September 2016 | I don't have unlimited money

Impressions on some recent games:

Enyo:

Overall a really well don't tactical roguelike with some new mechanics. Having to use the environment to eliminate enemies is surprisingly fresh and I had a fun time just observing the surroundings trying to find the best way of eliminating the more deadly enemies. I do wish there were some upgrades or a type of skill tree to add some variety to the game in the later stages. If you like hoplite you'll most likely have a good time with this.

CN Superstar Soccer: Goal!!!!

I picked this up on a whim. Anyone played Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii? This plays similar to that in many ways. It has a simple arcade soccer template where the three main actions are tackle, pass, and shoot. Power ups are occasionally thrown onto the field to mix up the gameplay such as speed boosts, tackle shields etc. Biggest power up is the special power up that activates your team captain's special ability. There are 16 team captains in total and all are of course CN characters. There are 3 modes in total; League, Tournament, and multiplayer. The controls are good but may take a few game to get used to. Overall it's a fun arcade soccer game that I can recommend.

Mario coming to iOS is cool but I miss the days when they announce a big game and say it's available right now on the App Store. Know they did that with one of the Infinity Blade games. Think there were a few others like that (or at least the U2 album -- which may or may not have pleased iOS users to have auto added).

I want my cake ... And I want to eat it right now!

I was totally hoping Mario would be downloadable after the keynote too.
Nintendo on stage at Apple keynote opening was truly massive, but I can't really say they followed it up with other things gaming related.
That iPhone 7 showcase game looked to me pure freemium trash.
Besides some so and so lighting effects and some bump mapping, didn't look anything special and gameplay was like a million other games out there.
I really hope that didn't steal Epic showcase at last moment for some reason.

I wonder when we will see Spyjinx.

Yeah the OZ game's graphics didn't impress me much. It did seem like a decent upgrade but nothing that would shock me to see running on a 6s.

400 flying monkeys though.

That showcased game on the Apple event was pure shame for the great iOS game library.
It really was a one hell of a way to showcase how inferior mobile experiences that are done better on PC/consoles can be. If only they showed SPYJINX or Static Sky

So how is this App Store notification system work? Will the App Store notify me, or will I get an email when Super Mario Run is out?

Funny. Just reading how Nintendo's stock went up a whopping 29% after their announcement at the Apple showcase. And Apple....just .06%.

Poor Apple. Phone sales slowing down with nothing really that exciting to jump start them.

Honestly, I think Apple really needs to put a lot more focus into gaming. Start selling their phones based on the level of gaming that is now available to iOS.

Mario helps that but Apple itself never seems to care too much about gaming despite how much of a boon it has been overall for the App Store.

Put the focus on it and work to get even more big name publishers to buy in and give as much support as necessary to make it THE handheld device people want to game on. Redefine what people think of mobile gaming.

And yes, showcase those "wow" games instead of F2P crap.

Apple's stock usually goes down after announcements. People are insane.

iOS Gaming October 2016 | 400% more flying monkeys

My Twitter feed is mostly iOS devs and it's either jokes about "courage" to take away the headphone port or 400 flying monkeys.

Ninja edit: Looks like devs can submit builds for iOS 10 starting today. Hopefully any games with issues get patched before next Tuesday.

Yes, but it has been doing poorly for a while now because phone sales have slowed down. I'm sure there will be the usual craziness for the iPhone 7's initial release but I don't think it's going to break records.

With wireless companies now having people choose to pay for phones in installments, it's going to continue to drive sales down IMO.

One of the best mobile puzzlers ever is free for the first time

Grab Blek if you never played it before

SMR- looks cool! Can't wait to try it out.

I installed the iOS 10 GM and it's fantastic. Love what they did to messages. Love Memories in Photos. Haven't spent enough time with Apple Music but it seems like a big improvement. Great!

Yeah that's the console release trailer.
I can't wait to see and play this on mobile though.

Also sk beta possibly tomorrow!
Oh, I edited it out, thanks for the correction!

I got Disco Dave and bought Head of State.

But where is Steins;Gate!? And the free version on Lumines?

[edit] And in other sad news, Polara has been removed from the App Store, as the game broke with one of Apple's updates to iOS. This is what I really hate about gaming on iOS...!

Didn't that happen awhile ago? Though last week something went wrong when I was updating my phone and I had to restore from a backup. Not a huge deal, until it said it couldn't redownload Polara! At least I found a copy on my PC even though I haven't backed up my phone via iTunes in years. I wonder what's broken as I can play through the first few levels just fine.

On the plus side, you can get INKS. for free through the Apple Store app right now.

The nice influx of minimalist puzzlers today led to checking out 1Button Sarl's games again. You might only know them from Mr Jump, but they have one of the best (if not the best) collection of minimalist puzzlers on the App Store

If you haven't checked out On/Off, SEC, Quetzalcoatl, Bicolor, Super Sharp, PILE, or Poptile, you should

Will probably post the Sorcery saga thread later today. HowLongToBeat estimates 1-3 takes about 15-20 hours, so that would give people time to play through those in preparation for 4 (
which is awesome btw
)

An yeah, I think somebody discussed that it had disappeared from his device. Can anyone confirm or deconfirm if it had been removed from iOS devices.

I wonder if Steins;Gate and Lumines F2P will launch later today.

Just woke up. watched the keynote gaming bit again. Wew Miyamoto and Bill at an iPhone event what a time. Also I forgot the date for Steins;Gate. Is it today(thursday)? or tomorrow (friday)?

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to release today.

I'm sorry I know this is the wrong place but I need to vent

The iOS 10 music player looks trash
I think there's an iOS 10 beta thread somewhere. [edit] Here.

Thanks a lot!

Back on topic, how is Galatic Keep? From the description it sounds like roboust single player table top style RPG.

Also are there good Cyberpunk themed games on iOS?

Galactic Keep is great. That's exactly what it is, and the dev has been working on another module expansion since release. It's a labor of love and it shows in the art and aesthetic and mechanics.

Transistor and Shadowrun: Dragonfall are on iOS

Holy fuck, Steins;Gate is $30!

If I buy this, it'll be the most expensive game I have ever bought for mobile... Decisions decisions.

It's fantastic with a great and original story, to be expanded in a future extra module.
Plays great on both iPhone and iPad, and sync progresses via iCloud.
As you probably noticed from screenshots, it uses a very original graphical style, not your standard scifi setting.
Great sounds too.

Personally, I LOVED every minute of it, it's a very immersive and engaging RPG, with a nice 'die' mechanic.

To anyone enjoying games like Rodeo Stampede, Dungeon Loot or Crossy Road, the new Disco Dave might attract you a bit. It isn't the same in gameplay, but it does utilize swiping to move around the dance floor. It's all about avoiding the grey tiles, and landing on the colored ones, in the meantime collecting coins, just like in the before mentioned titles. These coins can be spent on new figures. While jumping around and staying in the air, you can swipe two or three times to land on the correct title, as sometimes you will have to swipe left,up or right, down, down etc. There's also a combo system in there but I haven't experimented with that yet. It's a very simple game but also free, so worth a try. I can't see myself keep playing it, as it just isn't as interesting or addicting as other similar games from the past.

I also bought and tried out SkyHill quickly but I still have to get the of it.

I bought this. Probably the one I'm most excited to try out this week besides Steins;Gate.

Let us know how you like this one, quite curious to see how it plays and how deep it really is.
I'll let you know. Probably sometime tomorrow.

By the way, Hey, Look Up! just released and is free! This one I'm also excited to try out. Definitely playing this one as soon as possible.

[edit] fuck... Steins;Gate is an iPhone app, which means it is just upscaled on my iPad Pro, which makes it all look pretty pixelated... At least it comes with Japanese dub and English subtitles.

I did say it was not universal! Supposedly an iPad (HD) version will come out today but nothing so far.

Yea. I got a refund for Game of thrones after playing for like 30 mins because I kept waiting to see if it improved but it was trash throughout.

Oh I don't even have to get in contact with anyone? I got this message straight away: "Your payment method will be issued a refund for this purchase. You should receive this refund in five to seven business days."

And then the app will automatically disappear from my device right?
