I don't consider emulation "coming to PC" and "regardless" sounds like a veiled threat of piracy.

There are a sizable amount of games that "came to PC" on Steam or GOG as emulated versions by the IP owner. Did these games not actually come to PC?

Regardless means it's a moot point. There's really nothing to discuss since it's happening in the near future.

There's a difference between emulation with the owners consent and without.

How so? Emulation is just a means to play a game. The distinction he is caught up on is whether you are paying the IP holder specifically for that platform, and not whether the game is emulated. I've paid for the game for the Wii U, and Nintendo has no interest in collecting money for a PC version so I will just emulate my Wii U images when it comes to the PC platform. If Nintendo wanted my money for a PC version then they would offer a compelling product on that platform.

Quit playing games with my heart

I totally forgot about this thread, got excited when I saw it was six pages long, but realized if the porting was true this thread would be 30+ pages, saw the sad news and am sad.

LOL at the stealth begging. I'm begging outright. Am hoping for a bonus at work next month so I can just buy a Wii u finally.

Can't believe there's still port begging for Bayo 2 lol. Just get a WiiU already, or hope it'll be playable on NX somehow and buy one this time around...

Is it in past broadcasts on twitch yet for those that missed it?

What does this even mean?
At some point in life all systems become obsolete.

PC has infinite backwards compatibility (more or less), that's why it's the best place for old games to end up to. Bayo 1 could be ported and it would be awesome, Bayo 2 can't but emulators will save the day, hopefully.

A) Understand that not everybody can buy every system, so I can emphasize with those who're genuinely interested but cannot access a game

B) As a Wii U owner, think it's a shame that to many, the hardware wasn't appealing enough to win people over compared to its contemporaries, thus preventing many games from finding an audience that could have liked them.

In this case you also have:

C) Realize that as an M-rated action game Bayonetta 2 is very different in style, tone and genre from the most of the Wii U exclusive library, so a lot of people interested in it just have no interest in most of the Wii U game lineup.

But a port to other platforms would theoretically be published by Sega.

With Nintendo's say-so, yes.

Hideki Kamiya has been very clear on Bayonetta 2's ownership. Nintendo paid for it, 100%.

Nintendo own the Code to Bayonetta 2 don't they? The IP rights may belong to Sega, but they'd have to rewrite the Code Nintendo Owns to port. And that would likely result in a PS3 tier Port of the original game.

Nintendo in all probability owns the story, imagery, acting, and music. You'd essentially have to remake the game to release it without their permission.

I know port begging can get annoying, but you have to understand not everyone is willing to buy a shit console just for one game.

I understand it just fine, it's still lame reasoning.

If you want the game, buy the console for it, without regrets. Or don't.

They're not only asinine, they're juvenile. You want a game that badly you pony up the money. If you don't want to or can't do it, you act like an adult and move on with your life

Indeed.

Can someone explain the rules to me?

I own Bayonetta 2 and a Wii U, but would still get ecstatic at a PS4 release - regardless of its likelihood. Does that constitute port begging?

I don't think there are rules as such, but if you already own the game and can play it, you cut out the unproductive protest at the unfairness of being left out which often accompanies port begging, and is presumably the reason NeoGAF frowns on it. So you're probably fine.

Some wounds never heal it seems.
Everyone should really buy the Wii U for the Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 is just a nice bonus

Absolutely. An action fan without a Wii U is missing out. W101 upstaged Bayonetta 2 before Bayonetta 2 was even out, and it's still king.

Which isn't port-begging, mentions already owning the game, and touches on the fact that the Wii U's bombing has potentially trapped many games (which will be a big issue for collectors going forth - just look at the secondhand Saturn market).

Saturn never had an eShop.

I'm not getting how it's on consumers to somehow convince themselves the console is worth buying instead of Nintendo. If the console wasn't a wasteland for anything that isn't a Nintendo published title it might have done a little better. The Wii U was terrible value proposition for your average console owner and the sales reflect that.

The decision is always on the consumer. A console manufacturer can only attempt to influence your decision. But since we're on the subject of Bayonetta 2, I'd add that the character action genre is far from the typical diet of the 'average console owner'.

Unfortunately Nintendo isn't making the games that appeal to the current market regardless of anyone's opinion on the quality of the existing Wii U library.

And when Nintendo did something to increase the value proposition of their console, like oh I don't know, saving a wanted game from certain death, people will bitch about it.

So.....?

At some point, customers need to stop being such stupid human beings and just continue on with their lives instead of acting like a pathetic baby when things like Bayo2 happened.

I would say that there's a difference if a game is funded specifically to encourage sales of a given platform. From a first-party perspective, it may actually be reasonable business sense if a game makes a loss in its own right if - in turn - it helps boost sales of the overall ecosystem of the console; it can act as a loss-leader to some extent.

Put it this way: If emulation on PC was a big enough market to actually be competitive. Nintendo may not have had reason to fund Bayo 2 in the first place; if emulation were a big enough market to be competitive, *any* game on a platform that can be emulated - even first-party ones - would have to be budgeted and funded with an overall intent of making a profit entirely in its own right.

(Which shouldn't be read as "Therefore emulation is WRONG!", I'm just trying to highlight how the business decisions and ecosystems involved make it not a simple case of "I'm buying the game, I'm running it how I wish, that affects no-one.". It's not necessarily unreasonable to make the point that perhaps all games *should* be budgeted with the intent of making a profit in their own right, for one thing!)

While I wouldn't say never, don't forget that this is Nintendo. They blocked that Goldeneye remaster and the original was released over a decade from when work on the remaster started.

I don't even have a Wii U and yet I bought the damn game in case the NX is backward compatible lol. Anything new on Bayonetta is welcome. Was Bayo 2 a commercial success ?

Why does a livestream of an old (but awesome) game bring out the worst of gaf? It's a Nintendo game on a Nintendo platform, what's so hard to understand? Mario, Zelda, Smash, etc. threads don't turn into such a mess, do they?

Man some people are still in denial about Bayonetta 2 being Nintendo exclusive.

They paid and helped out during development of the game so they co-own it with Sega meaning that even if Sega wanted to port it on non Nintendo system, they can't without their permission.

No people, you can dream but no.
just buy the f*cking system which has the games you want to play ffs

/me hugs First Print Collector Edition

People always say that but do we have official numbers anywhere? Compared to how the original sold (on each platform)?

The only thing we know (I guess) is that is has sold on Wii U less then 1million since Nintendo would have put it on their 1million sold list otherwise.
I want to remember though that some inside during a NPD thread threw out a number for Bayonetta 2 and how it sold each week/month after that number, but I can't remember it.

Right, and I'm trying to find numbers for the original on PS3/XB360 too, and all I can find is 1.35m combined by 2010. Which we can average to 675k per platform, I guess. I'm curious how Bayonetta 2 did so far in comparison to that number, especially because the install base for the sequel was much, MUCH lower.

I think Nintendo isnt unhappy with their decision to fund Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta for Smash(ballot) showed at least a decent fan base. And if they planned Bayo for Smash despite the results they have a plan for her
