My mom just got Spotify Family and I'm in love. It's like Pandora, but better.

I just need to figure out the radio.

So all my saved music is gone apparently-_-

I only use the iOS app so I know it wasn't the desktop client. If my music doesn't come back this the final straw I'll be switching to Apple Music.

So I was just noticed that I cannot save any more songs or albums to my library.

I've used Spotify for a while and I only have a few hundred songs in my library. 10,000 seems like way more than any regular person could ever need.

I don't know, I thought the point of it was to save the albums you have in your collection. So I would add the albums I like from all my favourite bands. I loved that because I could play my songs shuffled and be sure I'll have always a different playlist being played. Now I need to delete albums I like from my list? Fuck that.

I never save songs I just add them into playlists. Does that count towards the 10k?

I see no reason why you'd ever need that many songs in your library. It's easy enough just to save/unsave albums for playback offline. I have probably only 4 albums downloaded at any one time.

But this is not about that. I also download just a few albums for those times when I won't have connection like on flights and so on.

The saving feature included in spotify is there for a reason, to save those albums you like and keep a collection in your profile so that you can skip the search function. 10k songs is pretty low number and very easy to reach even if you just care a moderately about music.

That's just 1000 albums, I already have half that amount of records on physical formats and I know people with way way more.

A serious digital music platform should allow you to have your music collection easily accessible digitally.

Not to mention how many features spotify misses on that I think they should have like listening stats ala last.fm etc.

More like problems from somebody who likes to have a music collection indexed in a platform that has that functionality. Just make sure you don't like music too much!!

It's a streaming platform not a platform for downloading and storing 10s of thousands of songs, creating a virtual music collection. Having immediate access to 10k songs is more than enough for a streaming platform.

Sounds like you should look toward a platform that lets you stream the music you own like Google music.

Dude you would never notice the difference if you just deleted 10-20 albums and listened to that for a month before shuffling some other albums in.

Again, I don't download 10k songs, I'm talking about the feature spotify has in which you save the albums in your library.

Obviously now I'm going to be forced to go to my list and start deciding which albums I like more than others and start removing them from my list so that I can add others I might like more.... super convenient! Not a loss of my time at all!

I can't believe you guys are defending this shit. This is like the whole "clean up your fridge" shit from the Nintendo Wii all over again.

Although this doesn't even make sense because it's not like I'm downloading anything, I'm basically just hitting "like" on an album.

Imagine Facebook would tell you "wow, you certainly like a lot of things, bro! Sorry but you'll have to unlike some posts in order to continue liking stuff in our site! Kaythanxbye!"

Edit: just go to this thread that Sangreal posted a few posts above and you'll understand why this is a problem.

Again, #FirstWorldProblems. Spotify, as mentioned, is a streaming service, not a download service. 10K, in hindsight, is more than enough. Stop acting so spoilt and privileged.

10k is indeed an unreasonably low limit. That's not even enough to cover my physical collection if I wanted to recreate it as Spotify playlists.

Requesting good features for a paid service is not "spoilt and privileged".

My god, for the last time, this is not about downloading songs! It's just about tagging your favorites! Why would there be a cap on that feature?

Edit: well, at least archnemesis gets it!

I'm surprised so many people don't understand how the Library features work. 10k is unreasonably low, and totally arbitrary.

Another huge pet peeve of mine is the inability to add local files to my Library. I listen to a lot of music that isn't on Spotify, and there's no way to browse a unified list of all of my music, let alone break local songs down by album, artist, etc. It's all walled off in a separate "Local Files" list. At least I can add them to playlists, but it's annoying that they aren't visible under "Songs", "Artists" or "Albums".

Also, while I'm on a roll, why can't I "unlink" a local file that Spotify has incorrectly matched to a different song in its database? At best, the song shows up with the wrong metadata but at worst it actually replaces the cached copy with the wrong song 😤

Starting to question my decision to move to streaming...

Agreed on all points, I actually didn't even bother to upload my local files for all those reasons.

Whenever I need to play my local library I use Google play music which has everything pretty well catalogued (I uploaded all my library when the service launched). Only bad thing is that for some records the quality was not so good, maybe I should upload them again to see if it had improved since then.

Since I already have my local files there I'm also considering just ditching spotify for it. The only thing holding me back now is that I have all my family under my plan so I'd be "screwing" them over if I bail. Sucks.

This is an absolutely ridiculous attitude to have about a genuine problem with the service. Just because you don't listen to that much music, doesn't mean everyone else does.

I have Spotify for two years as it was free with my phone, but I'm moving straight back to Google once it's done. They at least give the option for this for people that listen to lots of music.

I think Google Play Music should do the things you want. You can upload up to 50,000 of your own songs and they appear alongside anything else you have added. I don't think there's a limit on what you can download either. But I'm not sure about that.

Spotify app for iOS updated for the first time in about 4 months today.

Looks like a minor update though according to the changelog, despite version going from 5.7.0 to 6.5.0

Im still bummed the lyrics integration is gone. I get it was a third party that delivered it and contracts and blah blah but still. It was a nice feature, hope it returns in some form. Shame they also removed the apps, else that might have been a way to get it back.

their handling of lyrics is their biggest failure and they need to get moving on that. It's been long enough. They don't have an excuse anymore.

Spotifys biggest problems is it's reaction time is super slow and the technical side (client, etc) is at best mediocre.

Its quite amazing that such a big company seems to technically inept that they actively make their product worse over time. I really wonder what is happening on the inside.

I got the update only on mobile, not on desktop. Its pretty decent, mix of songs i got in my library and some new things. Seems like its a daily version of the Discover Weekly playlist?

It's called Daily Mix.

With Daily Mix, you will tune into a mix of the music you know and love, made fresh in continuously updated playlists. Whether you’re in the mood for dancing to upbeat tunes or relaxing with mellow hits, just select your mix and enjoy your most loved familiar tracks with new music peppered in. You’re bound to rediscover some forgotten hits or even find a bunch of new favorites.

Do you just listen the same songs over and over again? Or do you constantly remove stuff you don't listen to anymore? Because most people I know that are serious about music have way more than 10k songs in their personal libraries.

I don't think Apple Music is any better. I'm on Apple Music now and iTunes doesn't even work on Windows machines with DPI scaling enabled. There are literally buttons and scroll bars that go off the screen so you can't interact with it.

Needless to say, I'm moving back to Spotify after my month ends.

They had Daily Mixes before and then removed them, correct? I'm glad they are back. They're good for when I want to listen to some familiar stuff along with some new songs, but am too lazy to create a playlist or go full-on Discover Weekly.

Google Music solves all these issues by allowing you to upload your own music to the cloud.
