DDOS attacks - targeting PSN, Spotify, Netflix, Comcast, etc

"Flashpoint is now reporting that the attack on Dyn today is in fact being launched by a Mirai-based IoT botnet" Krebs on twitter

"The total number of IoT devices infected with the Mirai malware has reached 493,000, up from 213,000 bots before the source code was disclosed around Oct. 1, according to internet backbone provider Level 3 Communications."

Internet of Things with Their Own Agenda, apparently.
Ha, good. Maybe they will learn something from this as in the future, it will only get worse (since the IoT is still in the early stages). I doubt that though.

Not quite:

The code for this attack came out a couple weeks ago.

These guys didn't wait long.

The future of the internet looks bleak.

tin foil hat mode:
Governments want that fully controlled internet 2 and will make the internet 1 unusable so people will want the internet 2 to login to their twitters and facebooks.

Back to normal:
This IoT devices with their default passwords.. I think it should be mandated that every IoT device come with unique password that is put with stickers or whatever on their user manual. This could lower some of the burden.

Appears to be working, somewhat.

Managed to get on PSN to purchase a membership for PS+ so let's hope the online works...

I just got in too.
I have friends coming over tomorrow to play some vr, thought I was not gonna have any games to play. Now hopefully I can get some downloaded.

PSN shows none of my fiends online, by I managed to log into Street Fighter 5. See how long it lasts and if I'm alone in here. =/

That would require governments to get off their lazy asses and do stuff.

Nah, the more likely thing might be some kind of regulation which tells people who can't maintain their network security to fuck off the net (if things got really dire).
