.hack//New World is shutting down its servers in December

Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 announced New World as part of a project with lofty goals of bringing back the setting and concept of the .hack series from scratch, but unfortunately, their first game is terminating its service on December 20, 2016, less than a year since its launch.

No reasons were provided for their decision to end services for .hack//New World, but they shared a message thanking all fans that played it. They will stop selling the game’s micro-transaction items on November 18, and the game will officially come to a close on December 20, 2016.

.hack//New World launched in January 8, 2016 for Android and iPhone.

Pity. It had some really good music from Yuki Kajuira. This is what, three failures in a row for the series?

They need to start making traditional .hacks again. The last one (kind of) was //Link on PSP, and that was pretty blah. The series is just going to fade away if they keep coming out with weird spin-offs and mobage without any of the usual .hack meta. //Versus was kind of neat though.

I can't believe they keep trying and failing to continue this series when all they should really be doing is remastering the PS2 quadrilogy into a single HD title.

Trying to actually play through the series a few years ago really highlighted how the original .Hack games were MAYBE two games of content padded out and stretched over four full-price discs.

Know how I know you never played it?

I was speaking of my own opinion. I have it installed on my note 5 and have played it one or more times but it has never snagged me like the others did. I think I even had more fun with Guilty Dragon as weird as that sounds.

But anyway I am dying for an actual console game for dot hack. I never liked it on mobile, it felt like the series was kicked up stairs. Been here since IMOQ and what really caught my eye was how we were in the lead character's shoes. We'd see their desktop, see their emails and interact with the characters in a really cool immersive way. They just threw all of that aside for the mobile games and I really want that back.

Love .HACK... hate touch screen phone.

It is like eating an awesome steak off of a garbage can lid.

They have there virtual reality game already. Sword Art Online, there's no more room for .Hack.

....but I hope one day they might do another console game.

This is what bothers me the most. The characters were really well done in this series and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know everyone in these games. HOWEVER I most certainly cannot say the same for SAO.

I bet it was the his use of English that tipped you off.

LIttle Tail Story didn't last all that long either. What else does CyberConnect2 have in their portfolio that isn't licensed fighting games and FFVIIr? Are they doomed to become the next Tri-Ace?

They are suppose to be making an open-world game and an VR game currently so there that....but dunno how those will go.

They missed actually getting on the MMO bandwagon.

They need to just release a niche JRPG series again if they want to bring it back.

Kinda strange how Guilty Dragon did super well an lasted 3 years while this went nowhere. Will there even be a Vol.2? What becomes of Project N.U. as a whole?

Over 4 years later an theres also finally an end in sight for .hack//bullet. We finally know it'll end at 42 chapters an this month they've posted 33 & 34. With this an New World shutting down there won't be anymore on-going .hack releases. Until...???

This is what, three failures in a row for the series?
Neither Link no GD were flops though!

They apparently aren't going to do another .hack game. So sad. Then again Cyberconnect2 is busy helping with FF7R last I heard.

Why can't any of Cyberconnect2's original works be successful?

Little Tail Story died within a year of existing as well. Between .hack// and Little Tail Bronx, CC2 can't seem to catch a break on their own projects. ;_;
I hope this doesn't keep them from continuing to try though. I'd love a new full fledged .hack// game. And Little Tail Bronx game. And more stuff like Asura's Wrath. Really, anything from CC2 that isn't a Naruto fighting game. Not a mobile game or anything like that.

Strelka Stories will still happen though, r-right?

It was not a good game. A good .hack game would have been a PS4 successor to the PS2 games that .hack fans actually liked. Bamco has zero respect for its own IPs and it's a sad thing to watch. We lucked out with Digimon Cyber Sleuth, but even that game was given the Google Translate treatment.

I'm a pretty big .hack nerd. SIGN was my first non Toonami anime, and I actually own a lot of the physical .hack media including games and soundtracks. I love the franchise, so it pains me to see that this is dying, even though it's not what I wanted from it.

I'd love a new console game or series to come out, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Ugh. Just... Ugh.

I started watching the original .hack through fansubs, I own all of the DVDs, and the majority of the manga and novels that came out in English. I also bought all the games day one.

That said the original quadrilogy is janky as heck. At the time there was nothing like those games, nowadays they don't really stand up. The GU games hold up much better if you are looking for a series to have remastered.

The modern SAO games are still janky games, but they don't have some of the completely broken design of the .hack originals. God... that last bonus dungeon to rescue Mia. I tried it without grinding but everyone is level 99 corrupted so you need to drain every battle which eventually led to a game over for me. I had to grind for over a dozen hours to go from 99-100 since I think 99 was the max dungeon level so leveling was very slow. Once I was at 100 the drain didn't fill your corruption gauge so much.

Regarding the above claims about bringing the series to PSN or a remaster, or whatnot. That's a terrible idea.

Don't get me wrong, the games are good, but not great. There was absolutely no need for the game's amount of sparse content to be spread across 4 entries, and then another 3. The game could have fit into 1 game, 2 max.

VR's becoming a thing. Why not just make The World already?

Give everybody a chance to go into a game-induced coma.

Thats what Link was. Then people complained how repetitive it was doing the usual .hack gameplay loop for 60+ hours lol. Breaking the games up gave people and the gameplay serious breathing room.

That didn't come out where I am (US), so I can only speak to what I received.

Super repetitive game.

Have ya ever played the IMOQ or G.U. series games back to back to back? Thats what Links like sans disc swapping and recaps of the previous game. All of the games are somewhat shallow/repetitive but still fun to me.

btw the Main Story of Link is fully translated with a patch now. Still gonna be awhile until the sub-stories & other loose ends are done, but it'll be fully translated someday!

Hoo. Kinda shocking. But with the game having much higher graphic fidelity, it is taking a lot from my smartphone which makes it drain battery so fast and fps drop everywhere. It is not shocking that the mass is not going to be interested with the game there.

And considering how the game rarely or never enter the top 100 mobile game big revenue title, i can see it not being profitable.

What they need to do is make basically .hack Xenoverse.

That's what they need to do badly.

I mean I loved the GU trilogy, but I always wanted to make my own character. Hell, even if it's just a fun side mode to the real single player.

Oh yeah for sure. The first 4 games have... not aged well. At all. They don't look good and the gameplay is very boring as well.

G.U. on the other hand? It's art style I imagine would adapt WONDERFULLY to HD.

This... This hurts me. Why Bandai... Why... .Hack is so much better it isn't even funny. Better shows, manga, and games!

I'll say it again as I said in my other post in this thread just make...

.hack//G.U. Xenoverse edition. Let me make my own character and invite friends and just do shit.

I'd settle for a PSN release of the old PS2 games.

Got in the mood to play them again the other day, and nearly had a heart attack when I saw what preowned copies were going for.

Even though they were thoroughly mediocre, I loved all 7 of the .Hack PS2 games. Completed every single one.

They need to get on a HD collection, even if it's all digital.

You could create a character in this.

dear lord, me and my sister used to love the .hack universe like 10 years ago. We really wanted TheWorld to exist. Not only did they actually make it (the absolute madmen!), now it's shutting down!

I think I missed out on something big.
