Gears of War 4 Crossplay test this weekend with Windows 10 and Xbox One

Hello Gears fans!

The time has come for us to run a special test weekend event to trial Crossplay Versus in Gears of War 4. This test is being conducted to evaluate the potential of a more permanent Crossplay solution in the future to allow Windows 10 and Xbox One gamers to play together in Versus outside of Private Matches.

Crossplay is divisive in any Versus experience, and Gears of War 4 is no different. From the beginning, we stated our intention to keep both platforms separate in non-cooperative game modes in order to preserve competitive balance. Conserving a fair, competitive environment remains a top priority for us.

The purpose of this weekend is to give Crossplay a trial run in a public playlist. We care deeply about players on both platforms and we’ve heard you, so our goal is to use this event to bring in a ton of data and listen to feedback from players on both platforms to examine the results.

What comes next after this hasn’t been decided – this weekend is an incredibly important first step in this process. Once we use the combination of our data and your feedback together, we’ll be able to make an informed next step (or not as the case may be). The key thing we want to stress is that we won’t be making any surprise changes all of a sudden based on this weekend.

We need as many of you to participate as possible to make this a truly effective test. As a thank you for participating, we’ve increased the win / loss XP for match completion and allowi squads of up to 5 players into this Social style playlist. Some of you may play this weekend and never match with another PC gamer. Others will. Regardless, we’d truly appreciate your feedback.

The settings for this test are as follows:

Playlist Settings
PC and Xbox players can matchmake together in this special Versus Playlist from Friday December 2nd - Monday December 5th.

Playlist Type: Social
Modes: Team Deathmatch, Dodgeball, King of the Hill
Maps: All (including Checkout and Dry Dock)
Win XP: 1500 (up from 600)
Loss XP: 750 (up from 100)
Maximum Squad Size: 5

Please do let us know your feedback by posting in this thread. Please tell us the Platform you play on and how you felt about the gameplay experience if you knowingly played with players on another platform.

Even if you haven’t been in a match in Crossplay, we still want to hear your voice. Let us know your concerns or hopes for Crossplay Versus in this thread along with which platform you primarily play on.

Thank you in advance for your feedback and time to help us perform this special test.

I think this could work as long as it remains as a separate "cross play" playlist, maybe other shooters could follow their lead and introduce their own separate cross play playlists.

I'm definitely going to give this a go this weekend. For the Gnasher, I don't think it'll effect that much. Although, a lot of the power weapons will have a unfair advantage on PC I can imagine.

This is what I have been saying for ages.
If you're so scared of competitive advantage, then let players choose if they want to play with them or not. Even with such a playlist, it offers far more chance of PC players to get to play with others depending on the game.

Hmmm this might make me fire up Gears 4 this weekend. Still haven't played the Horde mode yet, just finished SP and played a bunch of MP.

But then people would avoid those playlists and we'd be back to square one.

Getting ready to be picked apart by long shots and torque bows. It's a good way to do cross play, making it a voluntary playlist.

Wow this is really cool, I thought Versus Cross-play wasn't implemented for this game due to the fear of cheaters?

They must have a solid anti-cheat solution in-place for the game then to give this a shot.

Always say. The aim is offcourse easier on the PC. But the movement is easier to do on the console imo.
Thats why i always think crossplay isnt that bad with Gears then it is with a Battlefield kind of game for example/

As long as it's playlist specific it's fine but I don't think you should be forced to play against PC players. F that noise.

Oh another thread?

I was thinking about picking this game up for December, I'd like to play Crossplay with my friends that have the Xbox One and it seems only Horde and Campaign have Crossplay, it would be really cool to see Crossplay versus!

Plus controller is fine in the PC version.

There's no real effective way for them to dictate the input method used on the PC version.

As long as console players always opt in themselves to playing with KBM players, I don't see an issue. I can't imagine a scenario where enough console players start playing those playlists that it negatively affects the player counts for everything else.

It being a UWA also makes modifications difficult.

Should have been in from the start. And there shouldn't have been 2 weapon tuning setups, dividing player bases even further.

They always try and fix stuff after the population dwindles. Instead of getting the obvious right from the start.

IMO!

I expect PC versus Xbox to play out like this GIF. Still looking forward to it.

Please just do this. I think the KBAM vs gamepad issue is overblown. The vast majority of players don't care and there's already people using KBAM adapters on console anyway, and most PC games already are KBAM vs pad.

The last time Microsoft tried to do this and balance for both platforms, they gave us Shadowrun and from what I remember, they just ended up making the PC version play sluggishly to compensate for mouse aim. I'd be curious to see the academic exercise of just having raw KBM vs pad play though to see if it's as one sided as people think it would be.

Yes please. I was looking forward to Gears 4 MP on PC and it's a major letdown with how dead it is. I don't even use KB+M, controller feels natural for this game to me.

Shadowrun was also abandoned before it even got out the door from the developer having to deal with being closed down. It never got the sustain updates it was supposed to and lost all of it's dedicated servers.

I can understand why PC gamers would be happy about this, but I would -never- want to play against a PC Gamer on an Xbox One. I can't imagine many people would want to, to be honest.

All crossplay games so far let you uncheck a checkbox that prevents you from ever crossplaying if you want.

Thank goodness. Hopefully they can implement a permanent crossplay solution after this. Only being able to play social quickplay on pc is depressing.

This game has shit aiming outside the long range rifles anyway. I'll hop on later to boost that player count on PC and add some metrics.
