So what publisher makes the worst PC ports?

Sometimes in gaming you can spot a pattern, and one of those patterns is that certain publishers care very little about the PC market and hobble together a botched or broken port to gain a few sales.

Is it fair to say that WB are the worst PC publisher at this point?

Koei Tecmo.

This is probably the worst major publisher for PC ports, yeah. I've already skipped a bunch of games because of it.

edit: It kills me that they still haven't figured out how easy it is for 3D games to render at arbitrary resolutions rather than capping them at 1080p. The constant framerate locks are just as frustrating.

At least Arkham Knight is fixed by now. You need a very powerful system to play it on max settings but it works without problems.

KT's games are fucking resolution locked and based on the inferior PS3 versions.

Koei Tecmo I think. Though I recall hearing of a good one recently, so perhaps something is changing out there.

WB

Mortal Kombat X and Batman Arkham Knight should have been slam dunks

They took their time, but these are now fixed. MKX is superb and AK is supposedly without issue now (though I haven't verified that personally). Not sure who is behind AK but QLOC are the redeemers of MKX

Actually, I take it back and change my answer to Microsoft.

Lately this is a good point. GOW is the only one that appears to be reasonable. Though kind of questionable to make such a statement with UWP around, which certainly isn't what I want in any port unless UWP changes

Koei Tecmo is definitely up there, though they are getting better and they're starting to release day in day now.

WB and Koei Tecmo are definite front runners, but I wanna give a shout-out to Namco Bandai too. Xenoverse 2 on PC is a hot mess, getting late patches, rebinding controller buttons also changes their functions in the menu, and it crashes a lot when playing online.

WB hits lower lows, but KT is the most consistently poor one. There's always at least one glaring flaw that makes little sense.

Depends on what you call a bad PC port. KT though runs from the bad (One Piece) to the good (Arslan). But on average, they deliver a straigth console port, with better performances.

The game that is requiring people reinstall their entire OS is the best you've seen in recent history?

Not to mention even their functional ports still use the PC-poison that is UWP.

That's the issue of the disturbation platform, not the actual game.

GeoW 4 maybe is the best port I have ever seen.

Dark Souls was a "straight console port with better performance". Do you consider that good?

Say what you will about Dark Souls' port, it wasn't buggy or unstable. That automatically puts it above some of the garbage out there.

well nevermind that they promised multi-gpu support 'very soon' back in october and it's still MIA.

Bethesda, DOOM is probably the only good PC port. Every other engine their published games run on are ass. Bethesda developed games still have physics tied to framerate, then you've got RAGE, both Wolfenstein games, Dishonored 2...

Ubisoft too, but they're getting good. Rainbow Six Siege, The Division, and Watch Dogs 2 are pretty damn good. I haven't played Steep, so I'm not sure how the port is for that. Looking forward to the next Assassin's Creed.

Rockstar, though mostly because they milked the shit out of GTA V, and they're doing the same with Red Dead Redemption 2. They don't want potential console version sales to be lost to the PC crowd, so they delay the hell out of the port. They rely on double and triple dippers. Plus, lol at day 1/week 1 issues for GTA V on PC that prevented people with an @ in their Windows username from playing.

FromSoftware, Dark Souls 1 still hasn't been fixed, and Dark Souls 2's durability issues were only fixed in Scholars of the First Sin post-console release, showing how little they care about the complaints from PC gamers. Dark Souls 3 still has a framerate limit of 60fps. Funny enough, Dark Souls 1 is the only one in the series that has cloud-saving on Steam.

That only works when the dev or game are liked enough already.

Toukiden port is essentially the PS4 version, but it's "garbage tier".

No, I consider that a straigth port. A barebone port. Basically, what I call a bad port is an inferior port/broken port. There's good, straigth/barebone, bad.

It isn't good or bad, it is a straight port. IMO I would casually call it a bad port because it doesn't have the feature set and customisability I want without Durante's DSFix.

Having said that, it performs better than the console version out of the box (well with better stability and IQ). I played it a bunch on my old laptop without issue and without DSFix. However with a better PC than that, obviously I want better resolution and higher framerate, more AA, AF, supersampling, texture res options etc etc - which DSFix provides.

While Arslan seems to be the best port, its still... strange. Some animations are locked to 30fps, so it looks strange.

And they still havent figured out why their games crash on W10, so they either set their .exe to Win7 compatibility mode (Arslan) or they forget it and you have to do it yourself (AoT)...

That only works when the dev or game are liked enough already.

As long as Toukiden isnt crashing all the time, the PC port is worse. Toukiden crashes as long as you dont set the compatibility mode to W7 and even if you do, it crashes every few hours, just not as much as before...

I agree Koei's been very lackluster when it comes to PC, but they are showing improvements and Attack on Titan is proof of that.

Is AoT locked at 1080p like virtually all of KT's other PC ports? This is a dealbreaker on a 1440p monitor.

Many have released worse ports than Koei Tecmo. But they have done like a dozen over the past couple years and still fuck them up.
