Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

On Big Pharma, it's interesting but more of a puzzle game than a management game.

Big Pharma is an interesting game, not sure if I'm completely enamored by it yet.

For those who don't know, it's all about managing the concentration of drugs so that you can either optimise the output or at certain levels another machine can transform the drug so it has additional cures. While interesting is seems a bit like processional, there is one way to do things and once you do it you're done, no room for imagination.

I should probably get Dragon's Dogma, right? Does it support 4K resolution, and it is demanding? Never finished it on PS3.

I should also grab Doom, never finished that on PS4.

EDIT: Steam declining my card for some reason.

Nominations for DLC and Early Access, that's an interesting twist. Time for Battle Brothers to shine (or get robbed).

Christ sake, I'm at the 3rd boss on Furi and this game is killing me.

Does it let up, cos this just plain isn't fun anymore >_<

I'm a bit late responding, but I beat the 3rd boss last night and I highly suspect it's the worst one in the game. It just felt like a terrible design from the start to finish. The 4th one is so far wayyyy better again.

Guys I am very embarrassed to say this, but is the date on steam correct for choosing games in 2016?

Welp having a hard time finding 3 more GOTY games or can I leave those blank?

  • The game must have been released on Steam Early Access anytime, not just in 2016. If the game left Early Access before the end of 2016, it is not eligible in this category.
  • As this is the first year we're doing this award, all current Early Access games released before 2017 are eligible as long as they had at least one content update in 2016.

That will give very interesting results. Eternal Card Game and Gang Beasts should be good candidates. Paladins® and BattelRite too.

When you finish a 40X40 Master puzzle in Paint it Back that took you like 45 minutes to do

Got Doom and I feel it's absolutely at home on pc, loving the control so much more now. Giving me awful motion sickness though. Genuinely gutted because I can barely get through levels without feeling ill for literally hours after. Fuck sake

Still looking for opinions on Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander. Anyone recommend?

That or The Witness maybe.

Otherwise Witcher 3 DLC? (I've only put 11 hours into the base game.)

Any recs for colorful action adventure games or platformers without shooting or punching/kicking? Interesting kid games essentially. I didn't realize Rayman had brawler elements.

I'm not going to get the game, but I watched my brother play it on PS4. Looks good and has a really interesting overall objective. Reminded me of the show Black Mirror with its unsettling premise. And holy crap at the dogs.
Holy crap at everything and everyone is out to kill you. The brutal and bleak atmosphere is perfect.

Maybe Seasons After Fall? I'm pretty sure it has no combat at all.

So I'm seriously thinking about buying Witcher 3 again. Bought it on PS4 at launch and made it to Skellige but haven't touched it since. I recently got a new GPU and I think my 3570k can handle it. Plus having all the DLC would be pretty sweet.

I have it on ps4 as well and the best thing I ever did was buy it on PC.

I bought it a few months ago because I had some days off. I like it but I remember after some time it would became really easy. I know theres been some major patches so I am willing to play it again during the next weeks.

Hope it helps.

Halcyon 6 is a lot of fun so far. I'm only maybe an hour into my first campaign. It's not hardcore like xcom but it's management is a lot less shallow then FTL (I don't want to call FTL shallow cause it's not, but parts of it are). Then again, if I ramp up the difficulty, it might be hardcore like xcom is in terms of base planning and progression.

I am surprised people aren't talking about this game more.

It also seems like a game that could do very well for mod support, although it doesn't appear to (no steam workshop) right now.

Oh I hope it gets better later on then, cos I rage quit on this hard earlier on.

yeah fuck bitterblack isle

i really don't get it, i had little issue with the rest of the game but this is filled with monsters that oneshot my entire party and take a billion hits to kill

and all the rooms look the same, often they're literally copy pasted with different enemies in them

i don't understand why people like this, it's terrible

You're not supposed to go there right away.

its by far the best part of the game, in fact its the only really excellent part of the game, the rest is fine but that zone was amazing, as was the structure.

you need to get good
or, you know, you need to level up, I only went there after I finished the game

i'm lvl 80 and only have the last missions to go in the main story

idk how you can say it's excellent tho, i find the copy pasted areas to be really inexcusable

Can any of you guys chime in with your experience of Starbound?

I bought it because I like Terraria and wanted more, but I've read a few comments now that it's not as good. I'm not sure if 2 hours is enough for me to get a good feel for this game. I'm mainly looking for the mining/exploration aspect in Terraria, with using the items you find to explore further/easier. I don't really care about combat. A loosely tied together story would be nice, with incentives to explore and build stuff.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you try using the increase/max the FOV

I read about increasing that to about 100-110, didn't help. Then I tried increasing it to just on the limit of it giving a fish lense effect, didn't help. Then whacked it on max, 130..no help either. I've turned off motion blur completely also.

It's such a bummer, really getting me down.

I'm still really thinking about it. I'd love to play that game at 60/1080p on High/Ultra. Anything better than the PS4 runs it.

You've only specified your CPU but, assuming your new GPU is at least a 1060, you will have no problems running it at 1080/60. A 980 with the same CPU can achieve that by lowering shadows and foliage one notch down from max. I don't remember which hairworks setting I used, but it was on.

It's a significant performance difference when compared to the console versions.

I have an rx 470 4gb which is comparable to a 1060, so it seems it will run very well. Is the DLC pretty essential? Can't decide if I should just get the base game and wait until a later sale for the DLC or buy them all together.

I have not played either DLC yet, but I've heard nothing but good things. It's only $10 more to get the complete package and both expansions combined are apparently as long as the main game, so I'd opt for it.

SO I bought overcooked even if it goes against my rule of never buying something on a sale with less than 50%.

A friend was like "ew it is for babies" and other was like "yeah ok i guess"

two hours later we more maniac than an army, more united than the Sensates and more strategy filled than most wow guilds while doing raids
