This sure looks like a game to me...why is this in Off Topic? Please don't hurt me mods, I'm not trying to backseat mod, I'm just confused.

Y'all realize Standard still has clues, right?

I have no idea why people keep mentioning clues as Improvise fuel. Servos work way better because you get a lot of Servos for cheap, whereas the rate of return on Clues is quite slow and small.

Harder to kill the clue that has the enchantment on it and there's a lot of ways to get clues doing things you'd want to do anyway without overextending into a wrath.

Edit: oh for improvise, whatevs then

I mean, nothing with Improvise looks terribly good at the moment, but if you were looking to abuse it, I don't know why you'd use Clues to do it since you can't accumulate them particularly fast.

Oh, because servos are self-evident I thought. Also because clues don't do anything besides sit there otherwise and generally stick around until cracked. I agree servos are easier to produce in the first place.

Rather I don't get why the aura gets passed around so much, isn't it just bad?

It's probably bad but it's a neat card plus people tend to always get excited by anything that's an alt win condition regardless of whether or not it's actually viable.

And hey, it's even an Artifact so it can tap itself to help kick in for the totally fair Magic you're going to combo into with it.

I think this card is better than it appears since you can run 8 copies with Trophy Mage.

I was randomly thinking about this last night - the idea that any color can't get card advantage without massive hoop jumping, e.g. white, is pretty stupid.

Drawing cards seems like a basic part of the game.

Puresteel Paladin is buylisting for $4, and can still be found for less than $5 if you look around.

If it's not in MM2017 (and why would it be?), it's going to be a $10 card the instant someone looses with it on Camera in round 1 of a SCG Modern event.

White can already do basically everything else. It gets removal for every type of nonland permanent, life gain, tons of utility creatures, board wipes, reanimation, grave hate and even, occasionally, counter magic. Having card draw on top of it puts it over the top (and it still gets some anyway).

I think my WB Fabricate deck should be pretty decent with all the Aether Revolt improvements, actually. There's a ton of stuff being spoiled here - Yahenni as a free sac outlet; Sram can make a ton of dudes, that Improvise Rock can power out Marionette Master really fast, etc.

I get that, but card draw is a basic part of the game.

that just makes white an auxiliary colour though

I don't know what you mean by a 'basic part of the game.' You draw a card every turn as part of the turn cycle. You can get interactive games without extra card draw by having good card filtering and mana sinks.

Am I reading it wrong or can you enchant a thopter with Mechanized Production and win if you have 8 thopters? Seems like a potentially crazy card in EDH.

you can enchant any artifact you control and if you have 8 or more artifacts of the same name regardless of the enchanted artifact, and that includes tokens of the same name, you win on your upkeep.

You can actually enchanted anything and win with 8 thopters. The artifact you enchanted doesn't have to be one of the 8 copies. If you put this on a darksteel Citadel while you have 8 thopters you'll still win on your upkeep.

I think the thing is that there are lots of different routes for getting card advantage and they can't all be equally viable in every color. If white already gets card advantage from sweepers and virtually from wide boosts and so on, if it can draw cards as well as blue then it's just too good. So someone's got to be the worst at card drawing and for a variety of reasons white's the most logical choice.

This is why I agree with their change to "white can draw cards by jumping through hoops" from "white can't draw cards" though. Jumping through hoops keeps that issue in check without creating a "red can't affect enchantments" issue where there's a part of the game that's just 100% off limits to exactly one color.

Is this a real card? this card is absurdly good, it feels like

I don't have a problem with having hoops to jump through, something like Investigate covers that pretty well. Investigate is such a good mechanic that its too bad its such a fiddly, block-style mechanic you can't really re-use all that often.

I think investigate is broad enough that it can be used just about everywhere. I think like scry (before it became evergreen) and cycling, it's the sort of mechanic we'll see semi-frequently.

I think WOTC needs to think long and hard about banning Emrakul. Like, I can see why you wouldn't want to ban the Marquee card of a set, but nothing about the card promotes anything fun.

I would ban Copter and Emrakul (since they didn't print any hate) and rotate Gideon early.

Isn't rotating Gideon early the same as banning him?Or do you mean all of BFZ block?

From a few minute look at MTG Goldfish, the top 25 cards in Standard has only Gideon, Transgress the Mind, Negate, Reflector Mage, and Stasis Snare. Even going up to top 30 you only add Natural State. Heck, even the top 5 only adds Tears of Valakut, Spell Shrivel, and Kozilek's Return. That's 9/50 top cards from the block, and anything past 40 is reaching 10% of the metagame.

Basically, of that list by rotating BFZ block early(and maybe even just going back to 18 months so they don't fuck up any future sets), you'd get rid of 2 stupid cards, 2 "Good Spells"(Transgress and and Snare), and a bunch of cards that were played due to better cards not existing ( Valakut, Shrivel, K's Return)

Poor Jeff, all he wanted was for people to try his homemade blackberry jam. Also it looks like he's playing an invisible piano.

The thread is usually in Off-Topic Community, but it gets moved to regular OT whenever a new set is coming out. It's not a video game (although there is one), so it doesn't go in Gaming Community either.

Less than 24 hours left of Vintage Cube. I just went T2 Bloodbraid Elf > Cascade into Seething Song > GDD > Flashback Seething > Exquisite Firecraft, so I think I can die happy now.

Have a mail-in program where you mail in X Emrakuls they mail you X random Inventions/Masterpieces. They did a program when the Urzas bans happened where you got boosters for mailing in cards

Investigate is probably the best mechanic of the last few years.

Anyway, I feel like playing artifacts and enchantments is a pretty reasonable hoop to ask for.

They really should just have made the new rotation start one chunk later, keeping BFZ in place is really just no bueno.

least surprising news ever (if we don't get a Dominaria set for the 25th Anniversary I will drop kick a baby)

it is super hilarious that ajani is like "let's do this right" and they're all like "lol what if we just went unprepared to the bad guy's house instead"

Actually the much MUCH more relevant plot spoiler here is that Tezzeret now has the ability to move others between the planes, aka the plot hook for the next appearance of the Phyrexians.

They'll go to Amonkhet, Bolas is going to destroy them very hard (Hour of Devastation), they'll run away or Bolas shoots them out of the plane with Tezzeret's Planar Bridge into Atlazan where they'll train to power up (Conquest of Power) and then travel to Dominaria, where Bolas is for some reason.

I love how
Chandra
needed Gideon's
invulnerability to survive destroying the Planar Bridge
but not when
destroying the Eldrazi
.

EDIT: Bolas should wreck them but this is the all conquering Gatewatch...

Lol, Wizards, please learn to test properly. That card can get back fetches ffs. You can fetch to cast it, and then return a fetch for ramp.

I swear, if the Gatewatch manages to defeat Bolas on Amonkhet(or Bolas nukes the plane) I'll be pissed.

I'm going to laugh though if they go "Amonkhet is a dystopia!" then the Gatewatch arrives and everything is great, only for them to make the situation worse IE Zendikar. Bolas is forced to step out from behind the shadows and just curbstomp them.

This is exactly what I think is going to happen. They're overdue for a defeat anyway.
