Nintendo Switch: March 3rd 2017 worldwide, MSRP $300

I pre-ordered my Switch and Zelda this morning! I wasn't impressed while watching the conference, but now my hype is at an all-time high! March 3rd is so close!

Does the console itself come with anything as a pack in?

As far as we know, there is no pack-in game. A bit disappointing as "1 2 Switch!" looked like the perfect title for that.

I can't stop laughing, but mostly I'm just crying tbh... I just checked the Switch price in some of the biggest stores in Sweden...

4990 SEK !!

O_O

For reference...

Original PS4 cost 2790 SEK !
PS4 Pro cost 4290 SEK !!

Let that sink in for a bit...

Then lets translate that to US dollars: 4990 SEK = 559 USD !!!

This will booomb unless the store still have place holder prices.

zelda + bomberman alone make this a better launch than the PS4 or XB, for me. shame they don't have MK8+ or whatever ready at launch though

Can we just stop with this tired argument? It shows up all the time and ignores the realities of what actually happened back then.

sure, long as we can also ditch the notion that power alone is historically some measure of success

Does the console itself come with anything as a pack in?

for me, this is the real misstep here - the console's $50 more than i'd wanted, i'lll live. wii sports was clearly a system seller, and nintendoland was a fun pack of minigames showing off what the tablet could do.

the fact that arms or at least 1,2 switch aren't pack-ins is really a mistake.

Should have been 299$

Also, the device symbol reminds of yin & yang a bit. Only thing i find cool about the whole thing :)

300 bucks and barely any launch games? 90 dollar dock? 70 dollar pro controller?

Can't deny that I'm a bit disappointed with the presentation.

I was expecting £250, but hoping for £230, so ending up at £280 is a bit of a blow... Especially considering the Pro controller is £65 and AAA games appear to start at £60.

Not happy about paying for online service either, but honestly I don't remember the last time I played a multiplayer game on a Nintendo system, so I'll get over that.

I'll be keeping my preorder and no doubt enjoying the games I end up playing, but I can't help but feel like this has been a major misstep for Nintendo, and I hope it doesn't cause too much trouble for them in the future.

Same in Norway. 4999 NOK is 603 USD!

GameStop is 3999 though. Which will probably end up being the price. And that is too damn high.

I'll consider this if there is a price drop around holidays this year for Mario. I got my brother's Wii U to play Zelda on.

Norwegian Nintendo page now say it will launch on march third, I guess that is good news for all of Scandinavia.
Check my post above about the price though... Inet, Media Markt, Webhallen, all going with 4990 SEK ... This will seriously bomb harder than anything before it over here.

Why are people talking about Pro Controller like it's necessary to enjoy the system? Did I miss some hands-on that say Joy-Con grip is unusable or something?

Oh sorry just answered you, didn't see your post. What we're seeing is pure insanity! I've been a gamer since the mid 80's and not even the PS3 launch price has shocked me this much! At least then we got one of the first BD players.

No idea! The same people are also ignoring that this is MSRP. "Special edition" Xbox One pads run between $60 - $70. Give it a bit and you'll find them for $40 to $50 on Amazon. Day one is always the most expensive time to buy anything...

I wish I could go back in time and slap the shit out of the guy at Microsoft that came up with the idea of paying to play online.

No pack-in game is also a terrible idea, and the game prices are a joke.

Also there seems to be quite a few games shown that take use of motion controls, how's that supposed to work when you use it on the go? I hope they don't expect me to flail my arms about on the bus or train.

Did not see announcenment video, but in browsing around what strikes me is that there are so many pieces. Likely so many cables too...

ANyone hav ea link to the video?

Have not bought a Nintendo system since the GameCube. I just put $50 down at GameStop. I want some Nintendo in my life. I think it's over-priced but I still want it.

You pointed out differences but they are indeed competing, you can't deny that sorry

The value proposition isn't comparable. They are competing about as much as any tablet completes with a PS4.

People will buy them for differnt reasons so in that sense they aren't competing "sorry".

I don't think this console is worth it at launch but shit during the holidays with Splatoon 2, Zelda, Mario Kart, & Super Mario Odyssey we got ourselves a winner. Then that's not including the eventual Monster Hunter & Pokemon games. Then once they are able to give it a slight price cut then we are talking serious business.

100 % stupidity. If it ends up at 3999 NOK that is still more than 480 USD. And I fully expect that to be the case.

The worst part is I might just end up supporting the stupidity. I am pretty weak when it comes to Zelda :(

I agree that's it's weird there's no Wii Sports equivalent game that's included to showcase the hardware and give gamers something in the box. I thought that was going to be 1 2 Switch when they showed it because unless that's like $15 I'll never get it.

I, for one, am really happy with the library. It avoids what Jim Sterling once called, pardon my crudeness, "launch splooge". That is, the tendency for every publisher to want to release EVERYTHING in the launch window to improve sales. The consequence is that it causes long software droughts after the launch. Happened with Wii U, PS4, XBox 1 and several earlier consoles.

Switch, OTOH, provided these titles aren't delayed, will have a steady stream of Nintendo titles through the year. And the specific titles they announced really check all the boxes of what fans have been asking for...

Open world Zelda that goes back to the series roots? Check (at launch!)

New IP?
Check (Arms)

Games that make use of the hardware gimmick?
Check (1 2 Switch and Arms)

New MonolithSoft in 2017 from the original XC team in that style?
Check

Brand new Splatoon?
Check

Definitive physical edition of the best Mario Kart, with all courses, dual items, real battle mode, and, most importantly, the SNES feather!!!
Check!

Finally, the "proper" Mario 64/Sunshine the internet has been bitching about for nearly 15 years?!
Check!!!

That doesn't count other projects like a cool looking new Square Enix RPG, SMT, and No More Heroes, whenever they come out. For me the only problem is the price point. That includes the hardware, peripherals, and online.

But the games look great. Especially XC 2. I'm in.

I didn't realize online was going to become a payed thing. I'd like to go back in time and do a little more than that to them.

I'm also really surprised at the lack of ANY pack in games.

I was able to snag one on amazon, but I might cancel now. Not because I don't want it or think it's over priced, but because I'm in such a busy point in my life that I could really stand to wait until the holidays or later when bundles become available and not really feel the loss. Zelda looks amazing, but I know Nintendo and a good chunk of what they showed last night won't be available at launch or for even a little while after.

why-its-not-going-to-sell

This article sums up my feelings pretty well. I certainly hope Nintendo goes 3rd party and make more money by doing that as they have really great IPs. Imagine the soon to be released Zelda running on the PS4. How amazing it would look and even maybe bring more innovations to the IP because of stronger hardware. I crave for Nintendo IPs but not buying their under-powered hardware at this price.

Has to be placeholder, right? That price jump isn't justifiable and everyone from Sweden could just import from Germany etc.

And neither is $70 more for a normal controller and having to buy SD cards in order to store games. You factor all of that in and it is more expensive than a PS4 Pro.

Im starting to think they make controllers shaped awkward asf so they can then sell the "traditional" feeling one as a seperate entity.

Anywho forget the price its the paid online that kills this they have nowhere near the infastructure needed to charge for it.They haven't even gained our faith that they would build an online infastructure to justify charging hell even the free online was a negative instead of a perk.

Oh I'll buy it too, big fan of their games. But still, can't sugar-coat the stupidity, it WILL fail, I just know it. :(

Placeholder price that's been used since the reveal.
Proshop just put up their price of 3899:- Which I'm hoping is them trying to snag some pre-orders before other retailers update to the actual MSRP. Because 3899:- better not be it, because that would be ridiculous still.

I'm talking about comparing it to launch prices. Consoles alone or even with software. I think comparing it to the PS4 Pro launch pricing would be more fair, hardware difference aside. However, the pricing of accessories here, yeah that's insane. And I'm someone who thinks $60 for a controller is outrageous. But the console price alone seems reasonable to me.

Comparing it to launch prices isn't a terrible idea, but you should also compare it to the current prices of the devices that it's going to be competing against. I think that would paint a much more accurate picture of what current retail looks like for the big three. So rather than just comparing it to one model of a console, we should also be comparing it to current market pricing.

Probably because they want a competent controller? And Xbox One controllers go on sale often unlike Nintendo products which you are choosing to ignore. I would bet money you won't find pro or joycon controllers for $40-$50 on Amazon at any point during this things life cycle.

According to the gamestops webpage its a placeholder. Prices usually go 1$=1€=10kronor but who knows. Bergsala might try and screw us.

$300 is not even the real problem considering it's not even the "end" of the costs for consumers.

It's $300 PLUS no pack-in-game PLUS paid online PLUS very expensive peripherals.

Costs are gonna creep up way fast, even the Nintendo fans who are justifying this price will end up paying more than they'll care to admit.

Not sure if this is thread worthy/already a thread about it but GameStop raised the Trade in credit for some Nintendo games. Xenoblade Chronicles X was $11 trade in and is now almost $25. Not sure for how long thought but thought i'd throw that out there.
