Horizon Zero Dawn : wednesday

Breath of the Wild + Switch : Friday

I'm afraid Horizon will struggle... Should Sony change the release date if the game si gold ?

Oh dear this thread...
Horizon is a game explicitly focused on Combat, Zelda is a game that balances its focus everywhere.

So, no, one game will not suffer because of the other because they're on entirely different systems and do different things.

Unlikely given the PS4 install base vastly outnumbered the Wii U and 3DS and there isn't much overlap between fans of Nintendo and Sony platforms. Sony fans will enjoy Horizon while Nintendo fans will enjoy Zelda

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
switch and zelda on a friday, almost a perfect day for someone to go get one

maybe they should push the game back to the friday before then

There's some common sense that needs to be applied here.

How many people can Zelda potentially be sold to? How many people can Horizon potentially be sold to? How much cross over is there between the respective potential audiences?

If they would release on the same console I could see a problem. But in this case no PS4 owener will say "I'll go out and buy a Switch and Zelda instead Horizon."
Horizon will do fine but won't get much share in the press when there is a new Zelda in the same weak. But I doubt that will matter for the sales. Sony promoted the game vvery good in the last few months.

zelda is essentially a $400 game unless you have a wii u. can't see it stepping on Horizon's toes too much

considering the amount of wiiu owners and the lack of attractiveness of the switch,i would say horizon will sell much better than BotW,tbh

This I don't agree with. I'll be surprised if BotW sells less than Horizon over its life.

But both games are sure to be successful, so whatever.

Different significantly larger audience

I was going to post the mj laugh gif but I couldn't tell if this was a serious question

You ever notice that some chick flicks release the same week, or the week right after a huge tentpole comic book super hero movie? Or when horror movies release around Thanksgiving right after some significant winter holiday release? Same effect here. Different movies for different audiences.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
The userbases for those who want Zelda and those who want Horizon are different, even though they are both good games i'm sure

I foresee many more Zelda vs Horizon threads in the gaf future

I'll patiently wait for my Nostradamus medal, kthanx.

Jokes aside nah Horizon will be fine..game looks fantastic!

Nah I dont agree with that. Install base is never an indicator for good sales. Otherwise we wouldn't have seen so many flops in the last 30 years on every leading console.
Horizon needs to prove that it is not just Far Cry Primal with robot dinosaurs and Zelda needs to prove that it is more than an walking simulation. So in the end the worth of mouth will be crucial for the success after launch.

I know some people that planned on buying Switch and BotW and holding off on Horizon. The Switch conference changed that.

As of now, Horizon is the game of choice.

Different type of game, different consoles, different target...

I could suffer but not because of that, I think it would only be affected by the reviews and general reception

If it has good reviews, horizon will do fine no matter what, take into account that is a very hyped game in the best selling console. Some people are cautious with it due to guerrilla prior games where storytelling was not that good, but if they nail that part ( knowing that combat, exploration, etc are going to be great), the game will sell a lot.

And about Zelda, we have to think that almost everyone who buys a nintendo switch at launch will buy the game, and seeing that the console is doing fine with preorders, will sell as expected.

Nah, both titles will do just fine sitting across from each other on the shelves.

Horizon is competing against itself really, since it's a new IP.

BotW is a launch game and almost everyone of the 2-3 million launch day buyers will buy Zelda too...

The scenario of both games is a little bit similar but Horizon is an action-fighting game first and foremost. Zelda has a much greater scale.

On top of that how well Horizon will fare depends on reviews, the developers are not well known for above average games.

Getting both, I don't think the audience overlap is really going to be an issue though. Most people probably either aren't interested in both or are willing to wait for one to go on sale since they'll be to busy playing the one they want more.

Damn didn't realize this. I'll probably hold off on Horizon for a month or so. I don't really think they'll affect each other very much.
