you mean inside the US right?

outside the US everyone uses Whatsapp or that other one.

This. It's still a shit-show in the US. I'd say Messenger is the closest thing we have to a ubiquitous messaging service that isn't restricted to a certain manufacturer. (iMessage)

I miss being in Japan where everyone used LINE. That was the dream.

Canada.

Anyway the most significant part of the recent rumors is that 'normal' phone sizes are increasing again. The 'small' iPhone moving from 4.7" to 5.5" is a huge jump. S8 is moving up (from 5.1") to 5.7". All those people claiming to stick with the iPhone for the small screens will have to grow longer fingers :| Maybe Google will even bring back their 5.9"?

I feel you. Kinda want to jump to T-Mo.

I've been pretty happy with T-Mobile after switching from At&t. My girlfriend and I switched last summer when they had a really good 2 person deal ($80/month for 6 GBs of data each, which is much more than either of us ever use). She had slightly worse coverage on her iPhone, but my S7 Edge seemed to get better reception than on my Note 4 on At&t. We live in the Seattle area so coverage was pretty comparable.

My only complaint with them now is that they don't offer Motorola phones. I'm very tempted by the Moto Z Play's battery life.

I hate big phones but the iphone rumour is that it will go up in screen size but remain the same physical dimensions as the 4.7 inch iphone, which imo is the perfect size for a phone.

I REALLLLLY hope google gets on the bezeless bandwagon and the 5 inch model just gets smaller. Also if they don't their flagship will look outdated as fuck with the current design when the G6/S8/and iphone are all going HAM.

Just buy the unlocked one.

No, the size of the screen is the main concern when using the phone not the the size of the body. Otherwise why would people prefer the iPhone 4.7" screen as 'smaller' when it's in the same size body as an Android phone with 5" screen? Why aren't the compact Xperias seen as substitutes for the iPhone SE/5s even though they are in similar sized bodies?

The size of the body matters for pocket-ability but it's the size of the screen that determines usability. The reasoning is straight forward: your fingers have to reach across the whole screen (and the bottom bezel on the iPhone too!) to access different parts of the UI. A 5.5" screen iPhone will be a different experience for one-handed use from a 4.7" screen iPhone even if those screens are in the same size body (perhaps mitigated if Apple only uses the bottom of the screen for like software buttons...)

There is no perfect size. I'd personally prefer if Apple kept the 4.7" screen and chopped off the bezels for a smaller body, otherwise only the SE would be left for one handed use. I don't even enjoy using the 4.7" now because it's too slippery with the curved edges with now

No - people want an iPhone because it's an iPhone, not because it has a 4.7" screen. The Galaxy S3 and HTC One X were around that screen size at the time when the iPhone 4 had a smaller screen. Xperia aren't substitutes for the iPhone because it's not an iPhone, where as the iPhone SE is a substitute for the iPhone 7 when money is a factor.

Perhaps so. But when fanboys start flame wars justifying why they want an iPhone and that is better they do refer to values like 'perfect size' and so on

I mean, it's Google so who knows, but they'd be better of not releasing a phone this year than coming out with something that looks like the G6 or whatever Moto/HTC put out.

got random urge for a pixel XL again.

Ships in 6 - 7 weeks.

jesus google get your shit together.

Hard to recommend a phone that doesn't exist.

How is flamingo in terms of notifications?

I've not found a android twitter app that is as on the ball as tweetbot on iOS in terms of notifications

i was pointing out that the perfect size is the 7 Plus now lol
Too small a size was the reason I originally jumped to Android, but I get who you're talking about.

I just like there is some damn fine competition these days. iPhone, Pixel, S/Note, and some of the others are stepping up like Huawei. I think HTC will die off soon though, and that's a shame. Motorola had about ten minutes in the sun, but that seems dead and gone too.

I'll be annoyed if there isn't an SE sized premium iPhone. Although I understand why there are only two sizes. Ideally, we'd have three versions of phones just like we usually had for laptops. 11", 13", 15", 17".

Even though I have about $1100 saved, I'm kind of leaning towards either the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus or the Google Pixel 2 (XL version of it), despite the latter being so far away.

Bixby being based off of S Voice makes me hope there will be some way to install Google Assistant on the S8

There will be unquestionably a way to install Google Assistant.

The better question might be if you can use Bixby's probably superior voice commands for things like audio playback (because Google's voice integration is a fucking mess) and Google Assistant at the same time.

Check out the Wiley Fox Swift 2 - currently £159 but drops to £119 often.
Wow how have I not heard of this company before, British based (hopefully means no Chinese spyware) and runs Cyanogenmod so should get a decent amount of support. Tempted to go for the plus model, how is the sd430?

Well I have the Moto 3G (2/16GB) and my sister has the Swift 2 (2/16GB) and I will probably get that as my next phone when Moto dies.

430 seems just fine, camera isn't as good as my Moto G though.

But for potentially £120 you get..

2/16GB
finger print scanner
All metal design
Micro SD
SD430
Bought directly unlocked from Amazon (so good customer support)

Plus model is 3/32GB

Worth looking into.

Hmm lots of good options out there, I need to get the phone by the 20th for her birthday so can't wait any longer. How much better (if at all) is the Kirin 650 than the sd617?
I think it's currently between the Moto g4 plus and the p9 lite. G4 gets good reviews of camera but I can't help but think the sd617 will come back to haunt us. It's a shame the wileyfox only has an sd430 as everything else on that phone seems stellar.

can't talk for the kirin 650 vs SD617, but i have at home a xperia m4 aqua with SD 615 and a p8 lite with the kirin 620 and the kirin is way better. Just the fact that the kirin is 16nm vs 28 for the SD617 it makes it the default choice since it will be more power efficient. In favour of snapdragon maybe could be the possibilitiy of fast charging (if enabled)

The huawei also has 3Gb of ram + fingerprint scanner, i think the moto does not and has only 2GB of ram.

it's all pros and cons. Both CPUs are fine. I think the P9 Lite has more RAM. It also runs a worse skin, though if it's getting huawei's newest version then it will get a lot better. G4 also has a bigger screen I believe at 5.5 whereas I think the P9 Lite has a 5.2 inch.

If those 2 were my choices personally I'd go for the P9 Lite.

Just my two pence, but I had a P8 Lite and the software / skin made me get rid of it.. Really not a fan of it.

agree on that. I wonder if recent emui update is better. The main issue for me is/was notifications. The other small issues are easily solved with nova launcher and spending a few minutes with protected apps (battery saving options basically)

Maybe, i'd hope so. I had issues with notifications, lock screen media controls not working, headphone volume control, pause/skip track never worked and so on. Problems that were deeper than just changing launcher.

i had never any of those issues (i use google play music ) but i am sure all are lock screen related, just like notifications: in fact the behaviour changes if you change the lock screen in themes but i never found one that was like stock android.

That was one of the things that apparently had a major change/improvements in the nougat/EMui5 update.

Now that Apple is going to hop on the wireless charging train, I hope that all manufacturers see the need to put it into their flagships. It should be as mandatory as fast charging at this point.

I'd be surprised if they somehow turn Qi charging into "true" wireless charging, as some people would said Apple would do, before they implement it.

Just rolled back to 7.1.1, the beta had too many crashes for me in apps and sharing.

Quick question: Can I transfer files from a Pixel to a Mate 9 with a USB-C to USB-C cable?

meh, at least Moto's software is pretty solid from my experience. My honor 8's nougat update totally broke so many things and it's unlikely that they will fix a few of those issues.
