Nintendo switch UK price £279.99

Has anyone that ordered a Neon Switch last week on Amazon when they made more available for launch day preorders had an email saying their's is actually confirmed for launch day? I got one for my Grey Switch saying it was eligible for release day delivery and I'd get it for the 3rd, but I've not had one for the Neon one yet.

they sent out those emails as originally they stated they had gone over their launch allocation and people had dates after the 3rd. No need to do it again since, as long as your orders say you'll arrive by the 3rd you don't have anything to worry about

my hype has gone right up today. I have been kind of ignoring zelda gameplay but watched a good chunk of it today and I need it right now :( I guess it could be worse if i had watched the gameplay earlier so can't be too upset.

Anyway...what's everything planning to do regarding SD cards? What specs you gonna go for? I'm looking at this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B010Q57S62/

That cost £37.19 and i think 128GB should be fine, right? I'm not buying digital unless it's the only way I can play a game. I would go for the 256GB one but it's £144.99! Even the 200GB is a bit more than I'm willing to pay at £75.38.

These particular cards have a rating of class 10 which means it can do minimum of 10MB/s. usually i wouldn't pay much attention but since it'll be used for games i want to get a good spec. There are Class 1 + Class 3 cards which use a different bus mode. Class 1 is still 10MB/s but Class 3 is 30MB/s. I'm just wondering if it's fine to stick with the Class 10 or go for the Class 1 or 3. for a 128GB it's about £60. so do you think it's worth paying the extra ~£20?

128GB will be fine, i'm looking at that card also but waiting for it to drop in price again as don't feel i'll need more memory space for some time

i'm not buying it right now or at launch. i'll make the 32GB last me as long as possible. i've added it to my wishlist anyway so i can keep an eye out for a price drop. what's a reasonable price to expect it to drop to and do they drop often?

CamelCamelCamel says it was £22.49 at its lowest so hopefully will drop again at some point soon. £25 for 128GB is probably the price i'll bite at

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now down to £42 on Amazon (£40 Prime), so if like me you used the BIGTHANKS code, you're automatically getting it cheaper as i've just checked this on my orders.

MK8D is showing up as costing me £34.28, whereas 1 2 Switch is £27.72

Yup. Got Zelda, 1-2 Switch and Mario Kart ordered for about 32 each. But people will still say the games are overpriced...

Yeah if you're not planning to go digital much then that 128GB sounds perfect.

Nintendo has in the past avoided setting a price because of that one time they got in trouble with the EU for price fixing.

However not having a public RRP doesn't mean there isn't one. The Nintendo store, for instance, sells it for £280. And Nintendo has to sell the console to the various retailers at some price decided between them. And the complete lack of competition for extra sales makes me suspect it's quite close to the asking price, though that's speculation obviously.

Functionally, it's RRP is £280.

Except that's not what N was fined for - which was colluding to limit supply in the EU market in order to prevent retailers / wholesalers from getting the best price possible. eg French retailers buying from UK wholesalers in order to get a more competitive price for French customers.

Nintendo accused of price-fixing

The fine was later reduced on appeal for N's co-operation in the investigation.

Nintendo's price-fixing fine reduced on appeal because of co-operation

Incidentally, the timeframe of the above was the N64 era where N-uk introduced their 64-bit console for an eye watering £250. Unrelated to the above issue, it was later reduced, first, to £150, and later, to £100 in just a matter of months.

As for RRP's in the UK. Well, if other companies are able to set an MSRP, why isn't Nintendo?

-------

In any case, look at the price of the hardware in this way. If the price is too high customers will not spend or reduce their spending. If it was, for example £200, customers are more likely to purchase a couple of games and N would make back the reduction in hardware cost. Price the system too high and fewer will buy or will not buy at all. Software is traditionally where most profit is made anyway.

i decided to cancel my extra pair of joycons because mk8 isn't out til the end of april and that's the only 4 player game i would be playing tbh

still can't decide whether to keep amazon or nintendo store pre order

amazon would give you better customer service if something goes wrong. But its up to you on which to keep.

I'm waiting for Arms before getting a second set of joycons. Would love them to do a set of joycons/game bundle but thats wishful thinking

Can *defintiely* see gold and silver joycons being sold/given away on MyNintendo...can't wait for some clear and/or pink ones eventually!

Maturity, bitches.
How does the big thanks code work? It says £76 for Mario Kart and Horizon together, but I don't get charged for both at the same time?

It was £10 off your total order. How you want to see that saving is up to you. £5 off both, £10 off one and full for the other, a £7.32/£2.68 split. The possibilities are endless.

How did you get all three for £32 each with a £10 off £50 spend voucher?. Surely even if you did them all on separate accounts, and spent £50 on each, the lowest price is just under £40 ish.

e.g for Zelda BOTW, I spent just over £50 (BOTW was £49.99 + a washer for £0.11p)

My Zelda BOTW is currently £36.11 (with £2 prime discount + £10 BIGTHANKS discount) and a current selling price of £48.00.

How scarce are we talking at launch?

I have a grey console pre-ordered for a gauranteed launch day delivery but having second thoughts on going through with the purchase, would like to give the order to some one who is willing to pay the rrp.

Ive cancelled and will spend the money on pc bits and zero dawn. Can't justify it at that price. Ill play zelda on the wii-u

Isn't clear yet. Could go both ways at this point. We might know more as the date approaches, but for now it doesn't look to be sold out in most places. I think with the way stock levels have been so far and all the potential/probable cancellations before launch, it might not be scarce at all on launch day. Could sell out in the first few days or a week though, until the next shipment, which shouldn't be that far off.

So baring any sudden surge in demand (unlikely) looks like the demand will not outstrip supply in most of Europe, except maybe/strangely in Germany? Amazon.de seems to be the only Amazon Europe site to sell out, and they did so a while back too.

Have any screen protectors been reviewed yet? I can't decide whether to get one, and if so which.

I kinda feel like it's either a do it straight away after unboxing or don't bother.

My ORZLY Screen Protector got dispatched today from Amazon apparently, despite still being due with me in 2.5-3 weeks according to the tracker...

I think they will. But won't risk getting any until I get conformation

Sure :) Got a bunch of GAME credit so just hoping if there's anything that takes my fancy on the eShop I can use the GAME credit to buy eShop credit.

Isn't that because the Grey Switches originally had a delivery date of the 4th?

what date does it give you right now? if you ordered it when they said you could get it at launch and if it says on your order that it'll arrive on the 3rd then i think you're OK. my grey originally said 4th march then i got an email saying it moved to the 3rd. i don't think they'd send out an email saying it'll arrive at launch if it already said on the page at time of order and if it's telling you on the order.

they sent out those emails as originally they stated they had gone over their launch allocation and people had dates after the 3rd. No need to do it again since, as long as your orders say you'll arrive by the 3rd you don't have anything to worry about
Thanks for the clarification, the delivery estimate for my Neon is the 3rd. I've got Prime and my date for my Grey order was always down as March 3rd so I thought that email they sent out was just to confirm I was getting one and there was enough stock. Didn't know that some people's orders were originally down as the 4th and it was changed.

Have gameseek already sold out on the second batch of neon switches for £200 or have they not done it yet?

The latter. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to leave this very close to the end of the month. As in, just enough time that they can still ship out orders with the expectation of launch day delivery, but also close enough to pressure anyone who's held off preordering a Switch in the hopes of this particular deal.

I firmly believe if Switch ends up being successful in the UK it was due to the Current Account Switch Commercial unconsciously occupying mind share for the past few months.

The back voices whispering 'switch' is the banking equivalent of Nintendo's clicking sound.

Ha! I keep getting that ad on Switch videos.

Also funnily enough I'm using the service to switch bank accounts on March 3rd!

After posting cogent and level-headed reasoning behind not ordering a Switch Two months ago, I have now gone full 180 and ordered a neon because... y'know... shiny things...

Still no game ordered. Love Zelda but doubt I've really the time to commit to it these days.

I hope there's some info on the eShop over the next 10 days.

Nice work - do tell!

Well through my employer I got discount at Argos which brought Switch to £232. With Zelda I ordered on Amazon, used the BIGTHANKS code to knock a £10 then activated an Amazon Prime free trial to knock a further £2 off making it £36

I also kicked up a fuss about those cancelled £1.99 1-2 Switch orders so got a £5 voucher which I used towards MK8:D along with the Prime £2 discount so I've got that pre-ordered for £35

Tell me I'm poor and do not need this.

You're poor and you can probably buy the games you'd actually play anyway for a fraction of the price on either 3DS/Wii/Wii U or switch when they actually tell us what they're doing with the virtual console.

Whether that means you need it or not is up to you.

I really only want it for the novelty but I'm trying to stop myself from buying crap like this I'll just shut in a room too cluttered to get in to.
