FFVII Remake (part 1?) voice recording is almost finished

Producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed in a new interview that voice recording for the main story of FFVII Remake is almost finished. I assume he is just talking about part 1 but it's not mentioned.

Edit: Some information worth noting, Nojima (the game's writer) had finished writing the script of part 1 as of December 2015. And in August 2016 voice recording for the game was being done (said by Nomura at the time) .

Edit 2: Gematsu has translated Kitase's new comments:
”A remake of Final Fantasy VII required substantial preparedness," Kitase told Dengeki PlayStation. ”The voice actors have almost finished voice recording of the main story. Fans may have the image of the Cloud from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, but since this is the ‘prime' Cloud from before Advent Children, the performance may feel fresh."

Kitase also touched briefly upon the key visual unveiled last month. ”I'll leave the meaning of the Sephiroth that doesn't exist in the original (the black wing?) to everyone's imagination."

Hmm. Suprised with this news. Hopefully this means the script has stayed relatively close to the original and Nomura and Nojima haven't ruined it. After FFX Nojima hasn't written anything good IMO and I looove KH.

this at least tells us that they've settled on all the scenes they want in the game, so the planning for story cutscenes must be finished, for part 1 anyways

I expect a major presentation at Sony's Co firenze for this at E3.

All voice work being almost complete for Part 1 is a pretty good sign maybe we'll get lucky and this hits first half of 2018?

The scenario and script were allegedly finished like..a year ago, i think? Around the time of e3. There will inevitably be new plot details that make it feel bloated from the pov of those of us who have played the original but i will be interested to see thw spirit of the old scenes.

Also i know its not an Ivalice Alliamce titlw but in my dreams I still hope for the localization to be done by FXII people...

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
It really might end up being their big holiday 2017 title huh?

I imagine they're also keeping quiet on it to give FFXV some time to breath.

The story needs to be the same, but the script obviously has to change to allow for voice acting and timing differences, and generally making it flow better overall.

I truly believe this game is further along than we realize.

It was revealed in 2015 and we haven't had a hint of part 1's release. How much further than we realize could it possibly be?

Unless they were way past part 1 and were sitting on the near full game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ unlikely imo

I don't know, guys. I'm really happy with this news but I'm starting to think that the whole argument of "each parte have the size of a full game" is not really true then.

So wtf is actually going on.

Before, when they showed off a gameplay trailers 6 months after its announce and it was confirmed CC2 was working on it, I honestly expected Part 1 to show up around September/October of this year, early next year at the latest.

But then last week (I think it was last week, or a couple of weeks or something) the interview came out basically saying what we saw was all just smoke & mirrors, and they've now finally managed to get that section and boss fight up and running, making it sound like late next year was the earliest to expect it.

And now, the voicework is almost finished, something that typically happens about half a year or so before a game is ready to release... indicating that it could release by the end of this year after all.

I had given up hope, but now this...

2nd half of 2018 earliest would be my guess
this year is kh3's year :3
KH3's year for marketing? Or release? I think there's no chance KH3 is coming out this year unfortunately. I think both will be shown off this year.

Nojima's script for part 1 was finished as of December 2015 at the latest, and Nomura was overseeing/directing FFVIIR voice recording back in August. They could have been recording over the last year and have finished recording a large full game sized script.

Or maybe we're just so used to SE's really long development times that you're in denial that the game could be coming sooner rather than later?
:p

They had to have started development around 2014 so if they released the first part in 2018, it would have been 4 years. Isn't that around normal dev time for a full sized game?

If this were Luminous I would say 4 years is tragically optimistic but its UE4 so they shouldnt have had much trouble.

I would have preferred no voice acting like the original, it just isn't the same game otherwise.

It was never going to be the same game. It's a remake.

And it's being outsourced so that's probably helping.

I guessing we probably won't see Tifa until E3 then unless they have some more announcements. :(

Well, you know, it's really not supposed to be the "same game". If you want the same game, you always have the option to play the original. Also, you can always just turn down the audio slider for voices, and just read the text, LOL.

Woah, awesome, that's quicker than I expected. I'm really curious who will be doing the localization for the remake, as it seems like with FFXV/WoFF/KH3 Square do more simultaneous localization these days. I guess the FFXV team would still be working on the DLC, etc. Not sure how the timing would go for the peeps who did WoFF.

So, we're getting there right? This is sooner than I expected.

And I'm assuming this is just in reference to the Japanese recording, but English wouldn't be far behind? I'm curious if they'll bring Steve back for Cloud. He's been good in some stuff (CC, AC), and awful in others (Duodecim oh god).
