It actually sounds more "trance" than their old old stuff lol. I like it though! Very interesting that they've turned around like this. Similar to Arty this year

Oh yeah I've retired my DT990s for production and I'm gonna use the 700s on my gaming PC. I have an 02+ODAC amp for that PC. Had to EQ these already as there is a sharp sibilance in the high end range. Sounds even better now.

I gotta agree with you Blooded, I'm not what the point of the new name for that W&W track was because that sounds like their usual Trouse nonsense. I mean, maybe a LITTLE more trancey but yeah I'm not sold at all. It doesn't help that "Castle on the Hill" isn't a very good song, and that's coming from an Ed Sheeran fan

Lol. Zhu has to try something to remain relevant after his one hit. He's talented, he is, but he doesn't really need to go and take shots at the mainstream. Let your music speak for yourself. People legit liked Faded and probably his album. That has to mean something. Figure out what people liked and work from there.
But it's working. He got us talking about him, again. He also has a set at Ultra. Wonder if they'll show it during the stream.
I think..... W&W said they were wanting to come back to their roots or something? Isn't that what some DJ's usually say when they are done with the mainstream sound, lol. I don't blame them if they are bored of the new sound. I don't think they were ever complaining though so I'm not going to give them too much shit unlike Heady.

Bro..... I'm gonna need you to sit down. Future Bass is here and for a long time. It's been a couple years of Future Bass and it is not slowing down. You might want to ignore most of the mainstream noise because uh..... Yeah, nearly everybody is on the Future Bass train.
It may last another year. The trend seems to be one genre dominates for a few years to 4 years and then they move on to another genre. So good news! We just have to tolerate it for another year or two.
You know..... There doesn't seem to be much advertising this year for Ultra. During this time there is always a 7-Up ad which was a sponsor for Ultra. Aaaaaand I just looked at their site. 7-Up isn't a sponsor anymore.
They are sponsored by Uber and Heineken and there aren't any commercials. At all. No mainstream hype this year is weird. My brother watches alot of ESPN and there used to be a ton of 7-Up Ultra ads last year and the year before. Used to be alot on Adult Swim, too.
Nothing. I want main stages to be a variety of quality music from a bunch of different genres.

Am I the only one that doesn't really like Flume? I don't like his style of future bass, even though people tell me he is a pioneer of the sound. Doesn't hit the right spots for me
That's what I meant though. I don't want a popular sound in that sense. Whatever gets picked will get watered down and copied endlessly, so it doesn't really matter what it's based on - it's going to be a shadow of the quality stuff.
Yeah, I basically have the same criticism of ZHU as I do of REZZ. Both of them have this "experimental sound" that everyone praises them for, but they don't... Experiment with it, lol. That being said I much prefer what Zhu is doing, he has a lot of potential to do good music.

First of all, to clarify earlier, I don't think we were really talking about Bigroom House (at least I wasn't) and I largely dislike that kind of music. I was specifically speaking on the subject of the more melodic, pop house, for example Calvin Harris, Zedd, Avicii, SHM (2011-2013), and believe me I find that stuff to have gotten overkilled as well.
To answer your question though, if it wasn't obvious already I don't want any "new sound/trend" in EDM. When I go to see deadmau5 next month, I'm going there to experience live deadmau5 music. When I saw Disclosure, I saw them performing live music from their albums. These are not small names, these are artists with a distinct sound, yet we don't recognize that enough. More of that please - I'd like to see Ultra put Justice on the Mainstage for example.
For me the most important thing about music is the music. If there aren't good harmonies or melodies, forget it, I see right past decent production when the actual music isn't very strong. That, and nobody is doing it like Flume, he continued to push his sound.
That being said I prefer his non "future bass" stuff even more. It might not be down your alley but his EPs are excellent. Flume: Skin Companion EP I

I suppose, but I guess what I mean is I would at least prefer the popular sound to be something that I liked in general. I like trance and future bass, so I'm happy to at least hear more Future Bass type songs on the radio or festivals, rather than the big room stuff that I hate. Even if the songs are a shadow of the quality stuff. If that makes sense.
You didn't like the album?! I thought it was good music but not quite "EDM". The live instruments and the vibe of the whole album is killer to me.

I gotta agree with my dude cdhybrid. Future Bass would have been better for me if it didn't get jumped on by nearly everybody. Everything should be viable and there shouldn't be a dominating genre. A sound, yes, but not a genre.
If I had to choose it would go back to House music. It's way too varied that it just cannot bore everbody but it did when Big Room was pushed to the mainstage. If they would have played a more varied House set, Big Room wouldn't have been so dominating.

in all seriousness, the best way I can describe the album is "close but no cigar". The aspects you mentioned were definitely a big plus, I could really appreciate that and it gave a lot of human textures to the music. Buuuut at the end of the day I just didn't find it to be... That memorable? None of the songs really sat with me, off the top of my head the thing I think held back the album the most were the vocals. Zhu just really shouldn't sing as much as he did, it sometimes works but it got kinda old for me. If I had to have a SOMEWHAT, KINDA close comparison, Settle by Disclosure was more interesting for me. That album is just non stop amazing music from start to end, almost every track is totally classic and really varied while keeping consistent.
That being said I can see it as some decent background music while relaxing or just having drinks with friends or something. I can definitely understand the pleasing vibe of the overall package

Hahaha wouldn't that be something. Naw though, I know many of those guys definitely produce their music. I always say the same thing about ghost producing: honestly, you can hear it. If a producer has no consistency in their "sound" from song to song, it's pretty obvious to pick out which producers get their shit ghost produced.
The only person from that list I can tell you for sure has used "ghost producers" is Guetta, there's plenty of evidence of that online. I use that term loosely and in quotes though, because to be clear, Guetta's very much the "ideas guy" despite not being a hands-on producer (there's a reason you've heard of David Guetta, and not Joachim Garraud). Whereas there are other guys who have ghost producers they literally pay to make 100% of a song with no involvement whatsoever. I've mentioned Maarten Vorwerk in this thread a few times and he definitely has a big hand in ghost producing in THAT sense.
I will add though there's a big difference as well to ghost producing and having sound engineers, a lot of the public don't understand that.
Been listening to some Dark Side of the Moon lately, been looking at some 70s/80s synth inspired stuff for my next songAw man...I can't really disagree with that haha I think you're right.

I saw the full song list for The Chainsmoker's new album and it's nice to see more Emily Warren but I did do a double take at Florida Georgia Line.

First off – just confirmed my buddy is joining me next month for deadmau5 really excited about that show, haven't seen the mau5 do his thing since 2011. He's the reason I got into production in the first place so this show is a really big deal for me.

Just doesn't really showcase Zhu's talent at all and it doesn't do anything really different from any of his other songs, the lack of live instrumentation really doesn't do him any favors with his style. Vocals, as usual, are weak, especially when presented with the pitching up and down of vocal samples throughout. That alone kinda ruins the song to be honest.

I sort of liked his last album mainly because it is really great background music.
This is a really beautiful work of music. The album ticks off a lot of things that I really like to see in an album. Great balance between electronic and acoustic elements, including acoustic drum aspects which I welcome big time, the change of pace and sound selections make for a really nice diversity in sound while remaining distinctly Bonobo. Beautiful harmonies, awesome vocal collaborations (Nick Murphy's always a thumbs up). The string sections throughout the album in particular always grabbed me, love the contrast in Bambro Koyo Ganda where it has these long orchestral pieces and transitions to this heavy African beat. In fact that's something that Bonobo revisits several times, this African theme really fits what he's doing very well, it's refreshing to hear those kind of inspirations brought into a style like this.
I would say if anyone else ITT is going to listen to it, go into it expecting a very ambient, back burner kind of experience. It's a very lulling sound, even in the harder hitting songs the album doesn't make me sit right on the edge of my seat if that makes sense, but I'd still listen to this many times over. Will be fantastic for night time listening particularly, having drinks with the friends & just relaxing.
I would highly recommend this, just a really classy piece of music.

Just did, had time to do a little writeup =) Really awesome, I feel like my first instinct is I slightly prefer The North Borders for my own personal taste, but that might change with time, still a great piece of music.
Haha eh, artists can be hit and miss sometimes, and more power to those who like the song, I think Zhu's got a distinct sound nevertheless that's much nicer than a lot of pop EDM right now.

Axwell Ingrosso also got a show, and its going for $90 at a venue where the average price for a show is 25-40. And its also sold out.
Craziness. I just want to unwind after such a long winter once april hits.

Like I said some posts earlier. It's due to the fact that Future Bass and The Chainsmoker's are now popping off and people going off in different directions. It wasn't so popular here in the Twin Cities and nearly everybody I know is now listening to some sort of EDM. House, Trap, Dubstep, Future Bass, Big Room.
The parties are crazy, the music is intoxicating, and the drugs (never will partake). People everywhere are now noticing how lit EDM is and want to go to where shit pops off.
Being broker than usual, this month we just had a Hard Dance concert. HARD DANCE. Yes I freaked out but I was too damn broke to do anything.
Great post man. To me it feels like his most sophisticated work and if you're looking for upbeat stuff this won't suffice. Lull is a good word to describe it but at the same time I think some songs lull you into a thought-provoking state. Almost reminiscent at points too. I love stuff like that

Don't worry I'm on a similar level myself lol. Nothing more respectable than that tho. That's good advice too...some people get caught up too much about not trying to "sell out". If people are enjoying it, they shouldn't worry about anything else.

Yep, that's why I don't hesitate to remix Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, etc etc. I mean for starters I think they're great singers and I do the best I can to compliment that in my own wacky way, but I kinda did that NOW to show people, if anything happens, that I wanna write interesting music but they can't turn around and tell me I sold out. I've been working with pop music from the start, that's what I like.
On the note of just "people enjoying it" though, yeah I get that. I mean I criticize popular EDM for being uninteresting because I genuinely think that more interesting music could be popular and I find trends to be excruciatingly boring, but I understand why they do it and why people enjoy it.
