Cosmic Star Heroine |OT| Alyssa's Chrono Phantasy

Finished the game a few hours ago and it is quite obvious that, considering the size of the development team, an insane amount of work was put into this game.

Played on Heroine but might try Super Spy once everything works as intended on PS4.

Great work again... especially loved the final boss fights.

Like the soundtrack so far. Looked for the music files in the game directory at add to my music collection but couldn't find it. :p

I will say the game is starting to wear out it's welcome with the soft locking. I soft locked in
the casino
4 times today before I finally got out of that section. Hope that gets fixed soon.

Just finished the game. Liked it a lot and the music was great. Put in 21 hours and got platinum trophy too. First platinum trophy I ever got!

Soundtrack is on point. I love the bit that plays whenever Finn appears. So good.

Hey, thank you!

Thanks! Yeah I mean, it's protected for a reason :) And if you want to listen to it for free (as in all of it) it's free to stream it off our bandcamp, of which the mixes were done differently to the in game mixes, and are vastly better. Had a good mastering engineer master the entire OST for in game, and then for the album, he's a hero.

sharedassets0.resource and sharedassets1.resource in the CSH_Data directory.
Both files contain several FSB5 files (0x46534235 at offset 0x00), after extraction they are playable with a recent build of VGMStream

Or just buy the OST on Bandcamp

OR.. just do what I said, and save yourself the hassle :) It'll be out on Steam soon I hope, just waiting on Valve pulling the trigger.

Quick and dirty example

It looks way smoother live (140 fps, vs recorded 60).
I'm not sure how to record at anything past 60 fps, OBS doesn't have an option for that. :\

Here's one recorded where I capped the framerate at 60
Should be much smoother in motion.

Can I just say this is SO COOL - I had no idea such a thing existed. I grabbed GeDoSaTo but sadly when I launch CSH with it activated, CSH does nothing. At the risk of being an annoyance (and it's OK of course if you'd rather not) would I be able to bother you in PMs about getting this running on on CSH? Kinda wanna burn through it with those sweet scanlines on for a serious nostalgia zing

I mean, it did launch out of almost nowhere with little publicity and not a single review. Hopefully when the positive impressions and reviews start circulating it'll pick up.

I never used Bandcamp before, can I purchase the entire album in a lossless format?

That's one of the great things about Bandcamp - and a lot of VGmusicians use it too. So if you say, made an account there (free ofc), bought something, say our soundtrack *COUGH* then you'd be given format options to download the soundtrack in, ranging from MP3 VBR to FLAC, ALAC (Apple Lossless), AAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and AIFF formats. So if you just want standard MP3 320K,no problem, and if you want more, again, no problem. We upload it in the highest format available and then bandcamp does the format options for us after that. Pretty neat.

Sure, I'll whip up a pictorial later today and post it here. You do need to tinker in a few places for the scanlines to work.

Just noticed my EU pre-load started, question to the devs in particular, any idea if this is the fully updated correct version?
I was initially upset about the week delay but after seeing the problems with the US launch I'm thinking our delay was a blessing in disguise, just wondering if all the teething issues have been solved for the EU launch.

On a more positive note, so very stoked for this game!

Ok, I'm curious: why does the game and the OST have a different master?

My game glitched out at the
Blobsmith boss. The one you fight in the robot/mech
. Every time I complete the Battle the game crashes. I've tried winning the fight multiple ways and nothing seems to work.

I'm playing on PS4.

For those playing that version I highly recommend not using poison, don't level grind, and most importantly keep multiple save files every few hours.

even with that the game always random freeze. this kill my enjoyement to play the game. Release the patch on ps4... this is really unplayable, i feel like im a freaking beta testing.

When one of my characters glows yellow at the start of their turn, is that for hitting 50% style?

No it's mean that your character is on Hyper mode, the little cube under life bar goes up by 1 point each turn. At max, you get in hyper mode for that turn, which increase by a lot the damage you do, % skill ailment succes or healing.

Thanks, And desperate mode just provides a means of living past your health bar, correct?

Yeah, you get one action in negative health as long as you have over 50% style. You can heal yourself or go for a deathblow and die right after that turn (that character only). I think damage dealt during desperation is higher?

I talked about this game on SIFTD's GameFace podcast last night and apparently managed to sell a few copies of it on Steam in the process. I was honest about the bugs I've run into but also about how much fun I'm having when the game works properly, and that seemed to do the trick for several people.

Yeah there's no doubt the bugs could have used a bit of ironing out. Might have been worth delaying the game a week more just to get proper review copies in everyone's hands before release.

A lot of positive word of mouth over how good the game is

Anyone know where the
tailor voucher
is? Been looking all over for it.

Also, knock on wood but I've experienced a grand total of 0 bugs on PC after about 7 hours...dunno what's up but there ya go.

Off the top of my head, I think you have to
do whatever it was to get that unlucky coin from some guy in Stakes, then return the coin to its original owner outside of it and he'll give you the voucher in exchange.

Seems the pre load of the SIEE build is unpatched. Hope the devs know they must patch each sku separately, Or is the SIEE build an up to date release candidate?

1. Install GeDoSaTo on your PC
2. Make sure the program is running and is activated (the Activate button is grayed out)

3. Press the User Whitelist button, add Cosmic Star Heroine executable to the list, save the changes and close the edit window

4. Press the Edit Settings button, change the enablePostprocessing line to have true value, save the changes and close the edit window

5. Press the Edit Postprocessing button, change USE_ADVANCED_CRT line to have value of 1 instead of 0.

6. On the same window, scroll down to // Advanced CRT settings and change the values to your liking, save the changes and close the edit window.
Here are my values, you're free to experiment until you reach something you're satisfied with

7. With GeDoSaTo still running start Cosmic Star Heroine and enjoy the oldschool look.

(alternatively, just unpack these files to GeDoSaTo dir).

Was only able to play for 8 minutes but the game was fun thus far. Love the pixel art!

Robert, I know you used to post some updates in the GAF Indie dev thread but I'm wondering, is this Game Maker?

I'm personally using it for my own game and I like to see examples of it being put to good use. Regardless, I'm excited to play more. :)

question for those who backed it on kickstarter, did you receive a game code via email? I can't seem to find anything

I think I got an email, but I had an unclaimed item on Humble Bundle for the key. It's an additional entry on the purchases list, so you should end up with two. I have "Cosmic Star Heroine - Game Tier" which is empty and has been on there for a long time, and "Cosmic Star Heroine Kickstarter - PC codes" which is recent and had my code.

Just finished up my review of this and I was blown away by it. There were quite a few odd little bugs, including one where Sue got just frozen in one position for quite some time. Still incredible though.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
The battle system is really interesting here. It's engaging without feeling tedious, I guess because it's kept very simple and there's only one grid of commands to stare at. It can get pretty deep even in trash battles when you try to plan an optimal use of the skills. Probably one of the best spins on turn based systems I've played.

I had 0 clue about this game until my brother asked me about it a few days ago. Looks amazing. Definitely will give it a go after I finish Persona 5.

nothing in my humble bundle or kickstarter accounts, as far as I can tell I didn't get an email with the key either. My guess is that I need to log in somewhere and grab the key but I have no idea

I'm kind of blown away by how consistently good this game is. Each party member adds a new spin on battles. It's awesome.

And obviously, the music and graphics are fantastic.

Ok, I'm curious: why does the game and the OST have a different master?

The reason the game and the OST have different master is a couple of things, one: the mixes for the game are acting as BGM, so they need to fit in the background and give appropriate frequency space to the sound design. Helps the sound cut through better (It is not lost on me that the sound does not actually cut through all that well in places currently, rigorously balancing that as we speak). The game mixes also loop, in most cases, seamlessly, but there are a few tracks that start and stop into silence, must like their album version counterparts.

The OST album mixes are bigger, have no sound effects to compete with, and are more suited than the game mixes for dedicated listening, i.e. proper album mixes. We throw the Background out of Background music at this stage and are left with full blown, nothing but, music.

The OST album mixes are slightly different in form in some cases as well, some to extent, some to shorten (I thought Bounty Hunters wasn't much of a listening track so it got shortened for the album release, for example), and in many cases, proper intros and finales to each track. I'm fond of fading out steadily on a good feeling groove, so that does come into play here and there, just a personal preference for some, and others get a real exclamation point ending, just depends on how we felt about each track.
