When is Sony's E3 event? Time will likely be 2am BST but day? I need to plan my sick day 😂

I have a dentist appointment Monday and took off Tuesday for the heck of it. It's 9:00 my time so i'll be having a few beers while watching the conference. I'm counting down the days it's going to be fantastic.

I always love going home the night of Sony's E3 with some Popeyes and a beer. Shit has been like a sporting event the last few years.

They hold it in theatres near me, so the GF and I put on our best PS gear and head down to Boston for the event. Always a blast chilling with other PS fans.

The cheers were something else when everyone saw FF7R...so fun.

Just thinking how fun this thread will be during e3 and after
"I know for the 3rd year in a row we were wrong about Sony not having any new First Party games to show, but next year they definitely won't have anything new to show."
Like clockwork.
Hopefully there's a lot of new updates to the list of who Sony is working with after E3.

Lack of shinobi twitter teases has me worried

I see so many people saying Sony probably has nothing new to show. I expect 3 new AAA reveals in addition to info blowouts on many of the upcoming games we already know about. I honestly could see this years E3 show being on par or better than the last two years.

Three previously unannounced AAA games from SIE? Maybe. Sucker Punch's game plus two others is possible, I guess, but I think that's pushing it.

People just don't understand how much content Sony has. Look at how little crossover there is between E3 2016 and PSX 2016 and then consider how little crossover there will be between PSX 2016 and E3 2017.

Nobody else can have conferences 6 months apart with each show being able to stand on its own in terns of content.

Well, in terms of new game announcements, last year they had:

-GOW
-Days Gone
-Crash
-Death Stranding
-Spiderman

So that's 5 games, not even counting PSVR (which includes RE7, Batman, and Farpoint). On the face of it, it seems hard to believe that they can match that in terms of quantity, show gameplay for the games they've previously announced, and still demo all the third party games they have partnerships for.

It is completely reasonable to expect fewer new game announcements this year.

Damn GT6 ruined a good streak for the mainline games. I honestly wonder how well GT Sport is going to do being that it's not a numbered title and the first GT game on PS4 after 3-4 years since 6.

It sold 5 million on a platform being phased out. Should do at least that well on a platform that is peaking. I don't think being a mainline title matters much compared the quality and it is the first GT game on PS4 which makes it a big deal on a platform that is a bit starved for racing games, especially sims.

Once I realized I was watching TLOU2 at PSX '16 I knew E3 2017 was going to be off the shits.

speaking strictly exclusive announcements I think it'll depend on how good 3rd party relations are

given that I don't expect that many new announcements. I want existing updates too.

Red Dead Redemption 2 probably won't be at their press conference because it's Rockstar but I hope they don't spend too long on the rest of their deals this year. Destiny 2, Call of Duty and Battlefront 2 are pretty much givens. I think we'll get something else a bit smaller from 3rd party as well. Something VR related will likely be 3rd party too.

Plus Uncharted The Lost Legacy and The Last of Us 2.

Sucker Punch
From Software collaboration
A surprise

So technically they could all be first party even if not fully developed in-house.

I was talking about 3rd party partnership games like Bloodborne and Spider-Man.

Those are 2nd party games since SIE is involved in the publishing of the games. 3rd party games would be like Dragon Quest Builders, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, stuff like that. 3rd party exclusives are published and developed by another company or studio not affiliated to Sony's gaming division (SIE WWS).

Will Sony have more announcements than E3 2016? Maybe yes, maybe not.

That being said, historically Sony is super consistent with their E3s in terms of quantity/quality of announcements. If they were somehow lacking in content to maintain that consistency, they would had not announced TLoU Part II at PSX but kept it for E3 instead.

2014:
- Bloodborne
- LPB3
- Ratchet & Clank
- Entwined

2015:
- The Last Guardian
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Dreams
- RIGS

2016:
- God of War
- Spiderman
- Days Gone
- Far Point
- Death Stranding

2016 has one additional "big announcement" over years past, but Death Stranding is also clearly a special case of 'Kojima and Sony don't mind announcing this early because it's a special case.'

So traditionally E3 will have 3 retail-level announcements. Not all are megatons-class, but normally 2 of them will be pretty significant.

Thanks for the correction, but why do some people say there's no such thing as "2nd party"?

My guesses for First Party would be:
Sucker Punch - Think that's obvious.
Sony Japan game- Depends more on if it's a From level game.
Pixel Opus- Hopefully they aren't doing a PSVR game, and are making another console game. It's been 3 years since their last game, which released on E3 2014. That would make me think it's a bigger game than Entwined.
Manchester- VR game clearly, but could be PSX.
Sony London- Hopefully a console game, I want them to keep doing VR, but it'd be nice to see them handle multiple things. Getaway 3. Believe. Next PSVR game can be a PSX reveal, especially if it doesn't release until 2018.

Anything else would have to be a surprise partnership. Maybe a Sumo Digital project, then again after LBP3 Sony might be weary on that. Sanzaru for Sly Cooper 5's a possibility. Another Quantic Dream game but that's unlikely. It can't be understated how each year Sony Japan could have a lot of things we don't know about. They work with a lot of developers, they could have something in the works with From, Level 5, etc.. Another SuperMassive game, just because they want to go mutliplatform for some games doesn't mean they're done working with Sony.

Internally, and this goes for Microsoft as well I believe, Second Party doesn't exist. I know Kinda Funny used the wording Second Party to Shuhei once, and he had no clue what they were talking about, to him it's a First Party game made internally or externally. From interviews, it sounds like they don't have that terminology Second Party. It's more of a term we've made up to organize the exclusives that aren't made by a World Wide Studios team. Insomniac is serving as a Second Party developer. Second Party is temporary, If Sony owns the IP, they are effectively First Party games even if made by a "Second Party", which is just a third party developer making a First Party game. That's why people say it doesn't exist, it technically doesn't, it just helps us separate internally housed games from the externally housed games.

I'm the first person to jump on somebody who expects Rockstar at E3 (it happened a lot last year) but if we hear nothing on Red Dead in the next 7 weeks...I have a suspicion. My only two theories would be A. they're saving a trailer for Sony's conference or B. it's getting a massive delay - I'm talking a full year.

- I don't think we're going to see anything else from London Studio any time soon. They've dropped in size a lot since a few years ago if I'm not mistaken, and released PlayStation VR Worlds at the end of last year. I'd love them to return to bigger non-VR games, but that kind of thing has been the studio's focus for quite a few years now.
- I believe Manchester Studio only formed in 2015 so it might be too soon to see anything from them.
- I really don't see Quantic Dream announcing their next project before Detroit releases, even if it's with another publisher. I wouldn't be surprised if their next game was an expansion of the Dark Sorcerer tech demo, given that's how Detroit came about from their Kara idea.
- Japan Studio are big, but they've just had two major releases in the last six months and we know of one other they have in the works, probably for release this year (Knack 2). I just don't see them having another game being ready for reveal so soon, but I will gladly eat my words as they've been really consistent the last few years.
- I would love something new from Sanzaru as I think they did a great job with Sly 4, whether that's another Sly game (or a Ratchet-style franchise reboot) or something original. Who knows how likely that is though.
- Likewise Sumo Digital. I think they're one of the most consistent smaller devs in the industry, but they're probably pretty busy with Dead Island 2 and I doubt they're big enough to handle two projects.

- Assuming Helldivers was a success I think we should see another game from Sony & Arrowhead (Helldivers 2 would be awesome!), but who knows really as Sony seems to be stepping away from publishing smaller games.
- We could see more of Matterfall, but that might be something for a smaller conference like Paris (if Sony are still doing it?) or PSX. Honestly, I'm happy with Sony having two strong conferences in E3 and PSX, like they did last year.
- I'm hopeful for PixelOpus. I think theirs might be another "available now!" announcement, although whatever it is I don't think it'll be a much bigger game than Entwined. Maybe comparable to thatgamecompany's growth from Flow to Flower if we're lucky.
- I think something from FromSoft is likely, even if it's not a sequel to Bloodborne. They seem incredibly efficient and went from Artorias to Bloodborne in 3 years, so I don't see why they cannot maintain that schedule.
- Sucker Punch is probably a given, even if it is a 2019 release. I'm excited to see what they're working on after a trilogy of Infamous. Hopeful for a Horizon-esque sharp increase in quality. Let them join that top tier of WWS!

I'm honestly really excited to see what Ubisoft has in store for us this year. Outside of South Park and the very little we know of the next Assassin's Creed game, their conference is a total mystery. They've already released every other big game that they have shown off up to this point.

I enjoy Ubisoft conferences too, but not because I care about their games. I want to see the return of Mr. Caffeine!

I really doubt that will happen, we already know their next project is for PSVR (and that it was in some form of production already before VR Worlds was even out) and how long has been since London made a console game that wasnt something in the scope of Singstar?

Thanks for the correction, but why do some people say there's no such thing as "2nd party"?

Because there is no such thing really. A game like Horizon is a first party SIE game developed by a SIE owned studio. Ratchet & Clank is a first party SIE game developed by an independent third party studio.

The ''2nd party'' term is something that people created to represent cases like R&C but technically it doesnt makes sense because there is no such thing as a ''2nd party'' in this transaction or exchange, there are only first and third parties.

I'm not sure I follow. Do you mean a From game with the mixture of primitive tribe + robo-beasts aesthetic, or just mean their next game to have visuals as detailed as Horizon?

He probably means that looks as good as Horizon (IQ wise and all), but I think it would be more appropriate to wish that it looks as good as Uncharted 4 ;)

I expect new announcements to be in the 2-3 range this year. Sucker Punch is a definite and Sony can easily have 1-2 third party collabs to go along with Sucker Punch.
