LTTP: Bloodborne is good but not great (spoilers)

It is cool to me that some people choose to surrender to Gehrman on their first play through because it reminds me of the awesome variety of people and ways of thinking in this world. I would NEVER have thought that surrendering was a good choice and I would not have ever done it if it didn't give a trophy, haha.

I played through a bunch of times and used a specific weapon for each run and had fun with all of them. This included doing a low(ish) level beast claw run, diving deep enough in the chalice dungeons to grab that thing at level 20 was an adventure!

I liked it a lot, and I regret selling it. Although I was tired of it in the last third of the game. It is not the game to relax after work...

I think I'll get the complete edition at some point anyway. Heard good things about the DLC.

Ah, and if I had to name one thing I didn't like, it would be the "storytelling" or the lack of it. I know it is the style of Soulsborne games, but I don't like it.

Yup, anytime you visit the Hunters Dream to level up and upgrade, any remaining echoes should be going towards blood vials.

Rarely had to farm.

Same, and that was when they had the 99 limit, it goes up to like 500 now, if you just do that you'd probably have close to the limit by the time you get to the Forbidden Woods.

I agree with your criticisms, especially in regards to Blood Vials, but for me those issues don't detract from the game too much.

Creating a USB save right at the last decision should be in every beginners guide :p

But actually, I guess the creators intent is that you replay it and discover more stuff. I.e Eileen would be easy to miss, Cainhurst, etc, some stuff unravels over multiple plays.

Though still the option would be nice to resume from that decision.

Ye I found
Cainhurst
on my second playthrough and
Moon Pressence
on the third. Bloodborne is fantastic.

what was his end goal with this post?

I actually love the game and probably consider it the best game released that year but it frustrates me seeing people defend what are IMO poor design choices like the distance between lanterns and bosses or having to buy blood vials or bullets and suddenly heard a voice urging me to be a voice of dissent. I should stop that though.

The Witcher is alright. All it really has going for it is the story though since the gameplay and world are both quite dull.

I actually never player any Witcher game :p

Please stop farming for vials when you can buy from the hunters dream with echoes

I just hate having to spend money on healing items. I could like, buy more bloodstones in order to upgrade weapons I won't use.

It's probably the best or tied with Demon's in terms of having an amazing first playthrough experience. I don't think it is very replayable and enjoy replaying this series a lot so it loses some points there for me.

Heh, I actually prefer the "submit your life" ending. The other two always leave me feeling kinda sad for my character. Far better that they should wake up from the madness than remain in the nightmare.

It is stupid, however, that the game immediately boots you to NG+ considering From had already solved that annoyance in Dark Souls II. One of several noticeable omissions in the game.

Thank god Bloodborne is not a souls game then.

For anyone who gets annoyed whenever they see "Soulsborne": this is an example of why that term exists. :p

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Ah the sweet blood. Oh how it sings to me.

I find the fact that game runs like complete ass far more egregious than anything in the OP tbh. I like a lot of this game, but playing Souls games on PC spoiled me. The horrendous framepacing and performance issues BB has got going on keep me from replaying it more than anything else.

One of your biggest and understandable frustrations is the blood vial farming. But they patched the game a long time ago and you can buy those now.
Which is fine for progressing through an area, as you probably aren't going to be chugging them non-stop. But it's absolutely terrible for being stuck on a boss fight and having to stop and go get blood vials.

That's cool, I think it's a 10.

Unfortunate you went for the worst ending but in NG+ you can easily beat Bloodborne in an evening. I love how short the core path is when you know what you're doing, it's really replayable.

Souls ranking posting is like Persona waifu wars level posting now.

Heh, yeah. Different souls games click differently with many people. Like, for me, it would probably go:

DaS > BB > DaS II > DaS III > DeS

DaS was the first one I really got into and so is the most cherished for me. I played DeS before it but I don't think I went beyond Tower Knight before stopping and moving on to other games. I went back to it after completing DaS.
While I really enjoyed DaS III I feel burnt out and so didn't like it as much as I feel I should. It's the only one I didn't replay.

I'll take the story, setting and speed of BB over any of the souls game. BB was made for me as a person that kinda like the souls stuff but fixed a bunch of the issues I had with it.

I can't say I agree. Bloodborne is my current game of the generation and is seated comfortably in my top 5 of all time. Then again, I'm a sucker for Lovecraft, gothic horror, and the souls series in general.

Why do people farm for blood vials when you can just buy them in the Hunter's Dream? The game gives you plenty of blood echoes to do that when you go to level up. Especially if you equip the right runes.

Can't say i agree with the op, the game is overall a masterpiece and the second best PS4 game, if not Playstation exclusive in general (in both cases, behind Persona 5). I share the criticism to the blood vials system but if you buy them it's not a big deal, really. The main problem with the game is that some of the late areas are incredibly weak, horrible level design and cheap ass ways to boost the difficulty that don't even work. Plus the chalice dungeons are terrible.

Ummmm wow.

Your favorite game of all time is about to get a whole lot better.
I don't understand this argument. Old Hunters is good but aside from those 3 boss fights, it's much worse than the vast majority of the base game.

I had no idea this was something they had to patch in. Crazy.
Because there was no such patch. It was always there. The patch just increased the max number you could keep in storage. You could buy blood vials since day 1.

Logarius is one of the easiest bosses in the game for me. I have no clue how someone could find him harder than Amygdala and Ebrietas.

The game makes it incredibly clear you're about to fight the final boss. Also the guy says he'll kill you and you just say okay? What was going through your head?
Regular Amygdala is pretty easy, I find, but the defiled chalice version is obviously very tough.

Logarius isn't too bad, never found him too hard, so I agree... until I tried fighting him with my arcane build LOL. He's resistant to all elements and I had no physical damage weapon, FML. But with a regular physical weapon he's not a big deal at all.

And yeah, I always laugh at people who make terrible choices in games and then complain about the consequences. Like, what did you think was gonna happen?

lol

I disagree. Both the Research Hall and Fishing Hamlet are among the best areas that Bloodborne has to offer.

Completely disagree. But even if I agreed with you, it still makes the overall package much better.
I mean, level design is average at best in all the areas and it's flat out bad in some parts of them. The only worse areas in the main game are
the two nightmares and the awful chalice dungeons,
everything else is easily a couple of notches above.

So I wouldn't say it makes the package better. It just adds more Bloodborne which is never a bad thing but the meaningful content is just the
Ludwig, Maria and Orphan of Kos
boss battles. Which are amazing, but you have to go through some average/bad parts and a couple of shitty boss fights to get to them.

I disagree. Both the Research Hall and Fishing Hamlet are among the best areas that Bloodborne has to offer.
I really don't see how, especially the latter.

Dark Souls 2 doesn't go above anything.
Ahahah indeed.

Easily the second worst game in the series. The game is crazy easy outside of two bosses and the farming was tedious.
