We need more co-op RPGs on consoles

Consoles need more co-op RPGs. This gen has been pretty boring on that front. Outside of Diablo have we even gotten anything in the past few years?

Feels like this is one area that there is room for more games that aren't strictly MMOs.

The Tales console games always have local co-op. Sadly I haven't been able to actually play them co-op in 10 years. Has anyone else done it? How was it?

Moon Hunters is quite decent (and it's on sale now for PS4).

Also, Divinity and Divinity 2 are pretty much the epitome of deep coop RPGs.

Tales was always a fun co-op experience for me. I'd really like it if they added online co-op to the games.

How is Toukiden 2? I know it is more of an action hunting game than RPG but it might help for something different.

God Eater 2 Rage Burst is... A bit boring for the first 8 difficulty levels, several missions in each one too. The game's combat is fast paced but without any difficulty until later, especially when co-op, it is just a mash fest to get missions done faster. The game itself feels dated visually as well.

We also have stuff such as Salt & Sanctuary.

Destiny was my co-op RPG for over 1000 hours. Its RPG mechanics are rather weak but you have some of the basics like leveling, quests and loot.

My wife and I were looking for a couch co-op RPG after Diablo and Divinity, but nothing could touch those two in quality. Luckily, Divinity 2 is theoretically coming to consoles this year.

There are games like Fat Princess Adventures, but it feels like a mediocre Diablo ripoff.

Really hope the mana games come to switch. I would love to play them with my son.

How does coop work in the tales games? Is it just for combat?

There's that Marvel Heroes Omega thread floating around. Apparently it's in beta. It's Diablo style rather than Divinity style, but ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Just for combat. Player 1 gets to control the main character who runs around he field, while during combat both players get to fight. Considering the fast-paced action-heavy combat though, having a second player during battles can be a help. Otherwise you have to rely entirely on AI allies.

Destiny is by far the biggest one - I've been regularly playing it online for the past two and a half years or so since it's launched. It's a lot like Borderlands, except with much better-designed loot and classes, less buggy, better core gameplay, and actually has good raid encounter design.

Other than that, nothing really comes to mind. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get a translation of Seiken Densetsu 3 in that collection coming out. Or we'll get something like Phantasy Star Online again.
It's nice to dream.

Xenoblade Chronicles X had 32 member squads that could work together to fulfill random missions like kill X number or collect X number. If X was ten one person could do 5, another 4 and another 1 or one person could do it all.

Doing these would unlock missions that you could do in four-player co-op including bosses.

Xenoblade Chronicles X had an awful implementation of co-op and was severely disappointing.

I wish it was better, because it and its predecessor were basically tailored to be co-op games, but co-op is absent from the first game, and X has it behind a layer of nonsense and grinding that the entire server has to do collectively, only to make a small handful of very short missions that can actually be played in multiplayer, which only one squad of players can undertake at a time across what seems to be the entirety of the server (which might be due to any of them getting snapped up instantly the moment they come up, or something).

It's basically a design failure as a result of trying to justify it in-universe, when they absolutely didn't need to.

We need someone making co-op dungeon crawlers like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath again.

We need more co-op RPGs in general.

I don't care how barebones it is. I had a blast with Baldur's Gate multiplayer.

Dungeon Siege 3 is solid. 360, PS3, and PC.

Lord of The Rings War in The North is by the dark alliance 1 team.

Titan Quest just got a huge anniversary update on PC. Which is somewhat of an overhaul, in how much it covers.

I actually enjoyed ff6(ff3 at the time to me) co-op. I would watch my friend play through the story and I would jump in to help during battles. And when ever we surrounded enemies we would have an impromptu VS battle with each of our 2 characters(after sleeping the last remaining enemy of course).

It feels like it would have been super easy to add it into other games as well, while being completely ignore-able if the players you don't want to use it.
