Is Street Fighter V Worth Buying Now?

I'm think about picking this up but I remember a lot of people being pissed about the lack of content after the initial release. Has anything improved and is it worth buying?

Edit: I have purchased the $40 Edition on PSN.

It's always been worth buying if you enjoy playing against others.

It's still not the game for single-player oriented fighting game players though. There is a story mode now, but outside of watching a bunch of cutscenes the actual fights in them are pretty barebones and you'll be done with it in like two hours (and again, mostly watching cutscenes).

Not without getting everything on sale in a bundle

It's just not complete and I doubt it will be. It still feels incomplete and cheap. There's no reason to play the game everyday, which the game is designed (poorly) to do. You'll play once a week at most, and that's just to get Challenges done. The other times are when DLC releases, which is roughly once a month at this rate.

it's a fun game if you can get it for cheap.

single player is ass though, and honestly you will get worked going online this late in the game.

It always has been but now there's a lot more content with more on the way. It's only $40 on PSN right now.

If you like fighting games and want to play vs real people then its decent (even though balance is shit this season). If you want to play it as a SP game then dont waste your time and wait for T7 or I2.

So long as your focus is on fighting other people (be it online or, preferably, locally), yes, absolutely. It's a lot of fun. The community around is very active and there are tons of tournaments going on these days.

There's a pretty good deal on PSN on it right now, as I recall.

If you wanna play online/against real people locally then yes it's worth getting. If you want it solely for single player content then there's still nothing more than trials, survival and the story mode. They've added a versus CPU option but there's no formal Arcade mode.

It's on sale now on US PSN, 40$ for the base game + 6 characters and their premium costumes from S1 + 6 characters and their premium costumes from S2 + Guile's stage.

Characters from the season pass are Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, Urien, Akuma, Kolin, Ed, ???, ??? and ???

Besides:

- Practicing to get better
- Playing with Friends
- Trying to climb Ranked leagues
- Earning Fight Money
- For fun

No reason at all to play everyday.

If you give the Player a Carrot on a Stick system, you gotta make sure there's something to everyday or else it's a badly designed system that took them months to implement in the first place.

Buy KOFXIV instead.
If it's purely single player/casual stuff that the OP is interested then KoFXIV is definitely the better purchase, even at full price.

Sadly, there's no sale currently on US PSN I think. It was sale in the EU region during Easter but that's gone now too.

Weird. I literally just stopped playing for the night after not having played it for maybe a year. I had a blast and went ahead and bought the first character pack (on sale for $10). If you're looking for someone to be a scrub with you, I'd be happy to fight once you get the game

It's been worth getting for online since the beginning. I was willing to pay upfront to play and have the rest come later, unfortunately Capcom couldn't hang and everything was on fire. New CFN coming soon will hopefully make a real difference. As others have said the prices/bundles are solid

It doesn't matter if it took them months to implement, OP is asking about right now and those are reasons to play everyday regardless of reward system

Played on a new account like one month ago and there's plenty of beginners who are either new to the game or new to fighting games in general.

You can get it for $40 on PSN right now with the Season 1 & 2 Character Passes.

So yeah, now's a pretty good time to jump in, especially with the CFN update on the way.

What's that update? I just started playing again and have no idea

If you don't care about single player content it always was and still is. Luckily you don't have to drop $60 on it with every update.

It shifts over to new servers (FUCKING FINALLY) and adds the following stuff.

  • Rage Quit Penalty System

Back in December, we implemented an update to the Rage Quit System which displayed a special Player Profile Icon for the worst offenders and the most honorable players. These icons are working correctly now and matchmaking logic now takes into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.

  • Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times

We understand many players were not happy with the load times when entering online matches. There will now be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.

  • Battle Lounge Country Flags

Country flags should now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.

  • Training Mode – User Settings Saved

Training Mode settings are now saved and will carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.

  • Matchmaking Improvements

It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches. We've also added logic which avoids frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.

  • Fighter Profile Stats

More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.

  • Country / League Based Rankings

Players will now be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.

  • Friend Management System

In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you can now add Friends and follow them on CFN. You can now also Blacklist players.

  • Interactive Timeline

On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends' activities is presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you can immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.

  • In-Game Announcer Voice

The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.

Basically the CFN update is gonna massively overhaul how the online works as well as moving to new servers (lucebuce12 has a more comprehensive change list above), & it's gonna be beta tested for a second time on PC. It's gonna come with the new balance changes as well as the next DLC character, Ed (whose existence was leaked, yesterday). It was supposed to come out this week, but said update wasn't ready to go. This also caused a domino effect of delays for the balance update & the release of Ed.

Now that I mention it, if you have a half-decent PC, you can take SFV for a test run when the second CFN Beta happens (yes, you can also try out the next DLC character).

As what other mentioned if you want single player experience it only has a shitty survival mode, an ok 2:30 hours story mode, some trials and some one easy round characters story, so i would say pick GG, KoFXIV or wait for T7 or Injustice 2.
If you want the game to play against real people online/offline mostly and do some single player stuff on the side then it's absolutely worth it the game has a very active community, amazing gameplay (arguably one of the best this gen) and it's only $40 with both season passes.

As mentioned before, if you have a half-decent PC, get in on the beta test when it comes back around. Not only will you be able to test all of the DLC characters (Ed included), but you'll also be able to help get the CFN update ready for prime-time. Plus being able to get used to the new balance changes ahead of time is a nice benefit.

As lucebuce12 mentioned, don't be surprised if the update ends up also being prep for MvCI (like how MKX's online overhaul was prep for Injustice 2 which also benefitted MKX).

Echoing others, but it's good if you want to play other players/lobbies with friends.
Big community obviously, so you won't struggle for matches.

I would say no, if you want all characters, you'll have to shell out the game plus season 1 and 2, whats that? about 100-140 dlls?

No way, specially with how incomplete the game still feels and unbalanced (even still I have about 400 hours on it, cause friends play it too), but for someone about to jump in, I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm severely tempted to buy the Deluxe Edition for 40 dollars.

But I'm a single player guy so I need to see if it's worth it.

You need to hold off on SFV then. Once you finish the individual character stories, character trials and the cinematic story modes, theres basically nothing else for you to do except vs. CPU if you don't want to play online. I'd wait until at least Extra Battle and Arcade Modes are added in to round out the SP content to give the game another look if the additions are substantial by your own standards.

Well, the game plus the 2 character passes are $40 altogether right now on PSN, sooo......yeah. And while yeah, there are balancing issues, the issues can be kinda overblown. For example, for all the complaints that Urien gets (& yeah, his nerfs in the upcoming update are fair), you don't really see that much of him in majors. Balrog, that's another story.

With the sale & what's included, you'll probably amass enough Fight Money to be set for Seasons 3 & 4.
