Xbox On Interview with Phil Spencer [18:51]

"It's like a wake..."

Good start.

5:50 - Phil suggests MS didn't have oversight over the DF article as was discussed.

15:00 ish - Talking about game pass which was interesting and that it's aimed at parents wondering what to buy with the console. That might help the price point be reasonable.

The rest seemed pretty generic to be honest. Still a good interview.

He walks around with a Scorpio chip in his pocket.

This was a great interview even though nothing new was said, Phil Spencer is seriously the best thing that has happened to Xbox since they started it all, seems like a great guy, genuine, very far from the usual higher ups "suits" that might not even play games themselves. And yeah there he said it, Scorpio is done, he has had one at home for about a month. Surprise launch earlier than expected?

I gotta think they wanna hit that Sept date.

I love Phil's candor. Some people still dislike/mistrust him though.

Are you sure, though? The gme output is possibly the worst it has ever been for Xbox. There has been great strides in platform features, but that's about it. And that's not his background. I'd take him over Mattrick, but he has to prove himself to me, still.

Takes a while to make games you know.

If nothing new is shown at this E3, get the pitchforks out.

GOAT Phil, just love they guy.

Wish the presenter would stop his rambling, he kept shutting down Phil. But great interview, loving the info about 3rd party devs reacting excitingly.

Agreed. Cancelling games and closing studios is better 4 Xbox gamers

Any examples of that? For me he seems to be the putting his actions where his mouth is since day 1.

He talks for 3 years "Its all about the games" and yet where are they?

Not only the big change didnt come when he became Boss in 2014 but the games lineup even decreased with many cancelations.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
I love Phil's candor. Some people still dislike/mistrust him though.

Those some people's issue is that Phil was always with Xbox division so he was equally responsible for the mess.

But the truth is, working under the guy in charge and being incharge are completely fucking different things. Too hard for some people to understand though.

Unless your Nintendo.
Except for the Wii, and perhaps now with the switch, even Nintendo.

Though, one could argue that switch is the best place to play on the go XD

But they have been publishing quality games throughout this whole gen? Japanese support hasn't been very great, but other than that I can't fault Xbone's lineup at all.

Takes longer than that to create new IP's for AAA games these days...

Come now, don't you realise hardly anybody likes whatever they release, and can't be bothered to remember the things due for release?

;D

Many cancellations? I only count 2, and as much as it pains me, it was definitely the right thing to do in Scalebounds' case.

Three, I believe. Phantom Dust, Scalebound and Fable Legends.

Phantom Dust HD is a different project.

Still, "many" is a bit of an overstatement.

My body is ready but my wallet isn't quite there yet.

Even longer if you cancel your new IP and turn your studio into a Gears of War slavery studio what happened for example with Black Tusk Studios into The Coalition.

Many Studios getting closed and games canceled. Think about the guy what you want but this shit didnt happen so much under Don Mattrick.

Why we talk about game in Phil Spencer topic? He is head of Xbox not the head of MS studio.
No one bring up Andrew House when Sony close studio, if you not happy with MS studio output, please look for the right person to blame.

By the time The Coalition was formed Shangheist didn't even gave a game director. There was a job opening for it. This myth that Shangheist is somehow a canceled, working game needs to die. The idea is put on ice.
I didn't say anything about it being a working game.

True.

Press Play's closure saddened me. Both Kalimba and Max were fun games. : / Some of the devs founded a new studio and are now working on the vehicle building idea they were prototyping at PP. Hopefully it turns out good.

Max was a great game, very much enjoyed it. A sequel would be nice.

The same people who blindly love Phil will blindly love him in every thread no matter what. Isn't worth the time

Yes, Ignore how he reinvented the broken mess that was handed to him and the changes he made. Xbox services and hardware are the strongest its ever been, the games will come obviously, but the fundamentals needed to be tackled first.

- Self service refunds of digital purchases, this is huge! No condole platform offers this
- Best implementation of BC on a console (gave Lost Odyssey away free to the fans as soon as it was available)
- XBL is now an open platform, games with gold, removed the nonsensical paywall, introduced play anywhere
- Gave Rare back control, moved them away from Kinect, removed Kinect from Xbox in general
- Turned around Xbox UI got rid of snap,
- Xbox One S is not just a traditional refinement but is packed with more tech and features at a low price
- Elite controller & custom controllers
- Xbox Scorpio - Just what the fans wanted

Youd have to deliberately dull your mind if you believe his popularity is blind, cherry picking events isnt helping your case.

And Shangheist.

Clutching at straws, that wasnt announced

Not really we're still getting PD. Behind the scene reshuffling isnt new to this industry, the product wasn't cancelled.

Phil seems like a great guy. I always love listening to him in interviews. He of course has to provide some very "PR" responses from time to time, but he's also really genuine given the position he has.

Either way, I can't wait to see their final plans for Scorpio and Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass works just as it should in preview, I'd just want to see what the full lineup will be. I just got my One S last year and the Switch this year, so I really shouldn't get Scorpio this year...

I'll get Scorpio this year.
