Game soundtracks on vinyl | Analogue Gen 33fps

I was so excited to see a P5 vinyl release until I realized it was iam8bit and their pricing.

I skipped on Rez, one of my favorite soundtracks ever, and I'll skip this due to their outrageous pricing and constant delays.

Fans will be given a rare peek behind-the-scenes - via video, photos and interviews - showcasing every detail involved in making a record. This includes:

Mastering - We’ll visit our favorite mastering studio, Infrasonic, and chronicle how music is mixed for the retro technology that is vinyl
Oh, neat. Like how y'all missed the error on Undertale?

Test Presses - We’ll show you what it’s like to create lacquers & test presses, which serve as benchmark for the vinyl’s audio quality
Test presses that... don't even go out to the original artist/composer of the music? Cool!

Vinyl Production - We’ll hang with our friends from Noiseland at their factory in France, capturing the analog magic of melting “wax” and stamping records. It’s pretty crazy to see, because some of these machines are nearly 100 years old!
'cause there aren't any YouTube videos available today to see this process in its entirety. But "fans" of iam8bit will be able to see it now
for a price!

Packaging - We’ll reveal just how much work goes into creating a unique packaging experience, from design to printing to assembly
Oh, like how none of the iam8bit records I have (sigh... too many of them...) fit properly into their gatefold sleeves? Awesome!

.And then finally…

Artwork - We’ll reveal the “Mystery Album Art,” the result of an intimate collaboration between iam8bit, Atlus, SEGA and a to be announced, top secret artist ;-)

Estimated Ship Date: Q4 2017
LOL, right.

They had to add all the info about all the work that goes into the vinyl as preemptive defense against the price backlash. No artwork shown is incredibly embarrassing. No way to spin that. I'm sure it will be cool but you are asking people to drop serious coin on an album that's not due til probably next year and has no artwork. Wtf iam8bit

man I really appreciate how well Mondo packs their shit, like they really take care of your record!

that said, shout outs to whoever decided to step really hard on my package while it was left outside my apartment door!! becoz package it as nicely as you want, nothing is gonna save it from the weight of some kids running around where they're not supposed to :(

no damage to the record, but the case is fucked up, which will definitely lose me some dollars on the discogs marketplace.

also why the fck did I even buy this Silent Hill record anyways?? stupid impulses...

I mean I love the SH game and series, but I'm not trying to vibe out to its soundtrack or anything

>_<

so yah, if anyone wants a slightly bent up slightly discounted copy of this record, catch me in the B/S/T thread...

-edit-

yo wtfuuuuuuuuuu***?!?!?!

Silent Hill is sold out?!?!

and going for $100+ on discogs?!?!?

how did that happen????

I think you're underestimating how many people love the Silent Hill sound tracks. I regularly listen to them, and SH became my first vinyl game sound track, because I couldn't sleep on it.

Please note: because we're involving you in the production process, you're literally coming along for the ride with us. You'll receive production updates approximately once a month until your order ships. We'll even have some fun surprises along the way! This is gonna be fun!
this part is amazing

This is not completely true. Japan's been getting back into records. Recently some fairly big (in my opinion) J-Rock bands have released repressed or first issues of their albums on vinyl. I know at least perfume released several albums of the back catalogue as a box set (and their newest album also had a record edition).

Missed the limited number. Welp their lost, rather get that Tyler Stout Alien release from Mondo. Both cheaper and at least I know it has great artwork.

They are...you are right about that. Miyavi's latest album was issued and it was his first vinyl release.

That said, this came out in Japan 7 months ago. If they had a vinyl release planned, you'd have heard about it by now.

Oh yeah I was only refuting the overall "Japan doesn't do records". I think P5 chance of a non iam8bit release is slim to none.

That much money on a set without a finalized track list or box art? lol

This got me to go check how much the OST is on iTunes, leading to a second "lol what" moment when I saw it's $30.

you want this product. pay us $175 for this right now and we'll get it to you later this year.

also some of the money will go to documenting the process

we full kickstarter now

As avid Megaten collector and big fan of Persona, I was looking forward to get a P5 Vinyl set, but not only it is the dreaded iam8bit which I´ve heard only bad things about, the damn thing costs $175 and I won´t see it for a year or more... Yeah, no way I can justify this, they don´t even show the packaging.

They clearly want our money first, do the entire process and then *maybe* deliver a good product, very likely not deliver this year, etc... So many ways this can go wrong I really can´t justify the gamble for a limited set.

Damn, people. Nobody's forcing you to buy this album.

As someone with a ton of Persona collectables, including the vinyls they've put out, I was really looking forward to someone pressing it. It's unfortunate that it's iam8bit.

Most of us just REALLY wish they'd reform how they do business. Don't take preorders the day the fucking deal is signed and stop giving vague release dates.

I guarantee you someone out there is going to tell a wife/family member they want this, it'll be bought as a christmas gift and then it'll all end in heartbreak when it's inevitably delayed until the summer.

Yep! If the 4LP was $70 or even $80 instead of $100 I'd feel a lot better about it, but asking someone to drop $175 on a box set and you literally can't give them details on why it's so special (because you haven't even sketched out or white boarded your fucking design process) is frankly reprehensible.

Wow, that P5 price and wait period is absurd.

I'm glad I'm not into the Persona series, but I'm sorry for those that are. It does sorta feel like iam8bit is in 'doing it just because we can' mode now.

Is that real?

Atlus' press release says:

• Essential Edition - This version will come with 4 vinyl records that contain selected tracks curated by the Atlus Sound Team and will be priced at $100.
• Deluxe Edition - This version will feature the complete Persona 5 soundtrack on 6 vinyl records and will be priced at $175 (limited pressing of 1,000).

Is that real?

i mean isn't that what they mean by "2 bonus discs"? I could be wrong.

okay the wording is weird on the image.

Is it common for something like this to go up without a track list? Last thing I preordered was the Undertale set, and unless I'm mistaken, it had a tracklist up front (or at least very soon after it went live).

This is all round embarrassing. Iam8bit strikes again.

But Persona fans will pay it.

Hi, Persona fan here. I'm debating splitting the four with my wife (in a few months), but they can fuck themselves for $175.

No it's not. They literally just dried the ink on the contract, probably yesterday. That's the only thing that explains why it's going down like this.

It's a superb soundtrack but it is not worth that money.

Rare/Limited albums from the 90/00s in Mint condition haven't even reached that sort of money yet.

It's genius- they know 1000 fans exist in the world that will spend the money and it will net them 175,000.

I don't even know if that's the case. Did 1,000 people even buy the super duper limited edition of Rez?

Persona is probably bigger but still quite niche. I thought those fans just buy expensive figures or whatever

I wish more would think like you.

Like, I really REALLY wanted that Hyperlight Drifter set, but I said no to that price.

People need to start voting with their wallets.
