I have to say I'm disappointed by this :/

It would have been great to have a full recording of a show on that tour...

My favourite album by Radiohead. Was listening to it this morning and I can't wait to hear the additional tracks and the remastering.

The Nijmegen '00 bootlegs are extremely high quality iirc.

Yep, I have a number of their best bootlegs. They had two at the very least in Glastonbury and Hammerstein Ballroom in 97/98 that would have been amazing if they had remastered/remixed into an official release. And given the narrative in "Meeting People Is Easy" it would have given additional context to how they got to Kid A.

I guess I'm just spoiled with the Berlin 2000 gig that was rumoured to have been mixed by Nigel Godrich..... I kind of wanted to see the same thing happen here..

Yeah I'm probably gonna try to get the blue vinyl and sell the one that comes with the box set to my record store whenever I go to buy another album after that.

In for the boxed set. Can't believe we're finally getting Big Boots and Lift. I'm excited to hear the stuff on the Jam tape, too.

I Promise, other than Thom's lovely singing, is not that great from what I can tell in this live version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlWR8hCFg_o. But it's nice in kind of a Roy Orbison way.

Yeah I've never really cared for the song myself, but it's nice to check off that box and get it included anyway.

That just leaves Follow Me Around as the lone 90s holdout of unreleased tracks.

Not gonna lie, I listened to I Promise years ago and forgot about it, I thought it was a b-side to OK Computer forever and was surprised to see it on the tracklist today.

It's fine, I'll give it a couple spins and forget about it again, it's not really any better than the rest of the Airbag/How Am I Driving stuff unlike Lift or Big Boots.

If they had put Follow Me Around on that new record, now that could have almost stood on its own as a new album.

Bought the CD edition even though a part of me is dying to order the boxed edition. Looking forward to hearing studio Lift but years of listening to the live version as taken some sheen off it.

it's a shame then that they let XL use those same stampers then. I re-purchased Kid A just to see and both the capitol/xl reissues had the same matrix codes in the dead wax except capitol was X'd out and an XL was placed next to it.

Is your XL Kid A 10" or 12"?

From what I understand, the earliest XL issues were literally just unsold Capitol stock rebranded to mention XL. Then as soon as those went, XL pressed brand new versions (including the new 12"). But this is the first time I'm hearing about Capitol being crossed out in the deadwax.

A few years back before the whole XL thing happened, I bought OK Computer from Amazon UK on the Parlophone label. The runout is the same as the first pressing, so it is certainly a repressing cut from the analog tapes. It is easily the best version of OK Computer I've ever heard, and I'm afraid this new issue won't be able to match it.

Has it been confirmed these aren't remade versions though? Have they really been sat on studio recordings of these for 20+ years?

They only recorded Lift like two years ago

We have no idea about Big Boots, only recordings we have are live versions from decades ago

One of the best albums of all time. I was 17 when it came out and I still love it today. Disc 2 looks great, love Radiohead B-sides.

This isn't that cut of Lift either though, this one is also from the OK Computer sessions.

Kind of doubt we'll ever hear what they tried to do with it for AMSP.

I don't think I Promise, Man O War, and Lift are songs that were actually recorded during the OKC sessions, as they probably would've released them on one of the many EPs. Wouldn't really make sense to have them record Lift in 2015 (which we know they did) but then put the old version on this set and then rerelease it again for LP10. These songs definitely came around during OKC but I don't they were ever fully recorded, as the band thought they were inadequate.

I guess this means we'll never see Lift and Big Boots remade on a future radiohead album. :/

They recorded a new version of Lift for Hail to the Thief but thought it was worse than the '96 version (it is :lol) and regretted not just releasing the original version when they had the chance. We know they gave it another shot for during the AMSP sessions but it again didn't make the cut, so maybe they just figured the original recording was as good as it was ever going to get and decided this was the best opportunity to put it out there.

That's not new for them either. They recorded 16 versions of No Surprises and spent a year working out multiple takes of Knives Out, but realized the original takes for both songs were best, which is what were released on their albums. Sometimes the first pass on a song is the best and you don't realize it until you've tried out many different, but worse versions first.

The listing mentions that these songs are all taken from the original analogue tapes from the OKC sessions. Just because they weren't released doesn't mean they weren't recorded.

It was up on Bullmoose and Amoeba for a bit, I'd keep an eye on any local record shop's site if you have one

Yeah I said fuck it and I'll just eat the shipping charge from the UK site. Vinyls are barely gaining popularity in Las Vegas so it'll be super difficult to actually snag one locally. Still taking advantage of dat good USD > GBP exchange rate

Is this actually being done by Radiohead, or is it EMI r-ereleasing and milking their catalog? Because it seems to me like Radiohead would never do this. Not just a 20th anniversary re-release, but the unreleased tracks. They've extremely selective about what goes on their records and they generally don't like to share something unless it's what they want people to hear.

I interpret this as their former label trying to make some easy money by releasing a collection of outtakes that the band probably never wanted anyone to hear because they weren't good enough.

EDIT: After looking, it seems to be through XL. So, shit.

EMI has little to do with this.

I think this is just Radiohead admitting defeat on some of these tracks after 20 years, giving up hope that they''ll ever perfect them for new albums

Yeah, it's the band. XL bought out the back catalog from EMI a year or two ago.

Those Capitol 2CD/1DVD collector's editions from a few years back, even though not band approved, are wonderful.

Yeah, even the band's own website directs to this release. Color me surprised. I forgot that they bought their catalog back. Maybe in retrospect they realized the tracks were better than they thought at the time?

I do have to say though, after the AMSP boxset I don't really want to preorder again. I don't know what went wrong with the vinyl for that album, but after getting burned by spending $80 for trashy sounding records I may need to wait for reviews.

What about this?

Oh god. I hope it's that version rather than the live one...
