This is the windows 10 / mobile version, right?

I played hundreds of hours on the java version on PC, does the Switch version have any sort of multiplayer / joint world-building ?

It's its own version, a middleground in size between last gen and current gen consoles, It has up to 4 player split-screen.

it has 8 player multiplayer and any friends can come into your world and build as long as you are also playing the game. So not joint servers that people share at different times (if that is what youre wondering).

I was kinda interested in getting this for me and my cousin but it seems as if he's already past the free-Minecraft-on-his-mother's-phone-clones phase and all he wants to do now is play Zelda and Pokémon. That's not at all how I expected this to play out.

He's getting a Switch soon so we'll see.

I personally would rather have Dragon Quest Builders, it looks way more fun to me and I've never played Minecraft before.

I don't think it will sell a ton of systems because millions already have a portable version on their phone.

That means millions have been frustrated by trying to do complex builds with the touch controls. When they see my 31 year old ass comfortably stacking blocks at Starbucks, they're gonna be jelly. Hell, I'm already the envy of every 8 year old in the cafe when I'm playing Mario Kart. Fucking Minecraft? Forget about it.

According to last year's E3 announcement Realms (dedicated servers) are coming to console... but they've been silent about it ever since. I'm really hoping to get some good news from this year's show.

You underestimate what passes as acceptable controls for the youngsters.

i see no reason not to go Digital with Minecraft. It's a sandbox game, so you'll unlikely ever be "done" with it, and its install size is laughably small (500something megabytes)

If you've never played it before, buying physical is safer as you can sell it off if it's not your cup o' tea.

That is what I was wondering, thanks.

This seems like a reasonable compromise.

Man, it's going to be interesting reading all the first time impressions. Anyone who's curious about trying the game, don't be intimidated by the whole creativity thing. Minecraft's a creative game, sure, but you don't need to be a budding architect or engineer to enjoy it. I only play survival mode, for example. I like crafting stuff for its aesthetic and life-extending qualities ;)

Damn it, I'm buying this game again, aren't I?

You must be unfamiliar with what the Vita version did in Japan.

It still pales in comparison to how well it does on mobile in that region. I'm sure it will sell really well, but I'm not sure there are tons of people buying a switch because of a portable Minecraft. A portable version has been around for a few years and for under $10.

It did that well... on Vita.

It's now on a popular, family friendly platform.

In GAF terms, you might say that it's the Dark Souls of sandboxes.

They'll still have that one, but they'll want this one. Especially once more Switches start getting out there in the wild. I think many of us underestimated the fact that the best possible marketing for the Switch is the Switch itself. Kids see this shit and want it. Badly.

It's not just Minecraft either, but the whole package. Minecraft is just what will get their attention.

In all seriousness, why is this version better than the iPad version? I love switch, but I'd legit like to know from someone who has played this to explain what the advantages of this version are over the ipad version?

just for the record, this is NOT a switch vs ipad debate. The switch, without question, is the best core gamer portable gaming machine made. I love the iPad and its library, but I think that the Switch is the machine we've been waiting for. However, I also have to admit that outside of the desktop, the iOS/iPAD/iPhone has been the best way to play Minecraft.

My question is specifically about THIS game on Switch vs. tablet.

Seems like despite the smaller size of the game world, this is the definitive non-PC version due to the portability and the Nintendo extras.

Having good controls is a start, and not the terrible touch screen implementation you get on tablets and phones.

Getting buttons to control the game with plus the Nintendo content in the game. Plus you can (easily) play on your TV too.

Haven't played it either although I own it both on Vita (and cross-buy with the PS3) and the Wii U. I'd buy it digitally on the Switch though. Although both versions I own are physical, with the constant updates the Wii U version now has more than 1 GB of update data and the Vita around 800 mb. And I haven't bought any of the DLC either!

Guess it's time to try Minecraft for the first time.

Is the multiplayer fun? I don't think I would have toooo much fun building shit if there's nothing else to do, but I honestly know almost nothing about this game.

Cheaper hardware, actual controls, splitscreen.

I played the game solo and had a lot of fun. The game has more too it than just building stuff.
The game has two bosses, beating both of them can take 20+ hours easily.
