What's Good Games [Patreon Launch] (Andrea Rene, Alexa Ray Corriea & More)

Of course the thread about an all-woman gaming podcast has to have some smelly distraction post on page 1.

It sounds good, I'll give it a listen.

I only know Alexa and Andrea (from 8-4 Play and Weekend Confirmed podcasts) but they are both excellent hosts and I'd love to see them working on an independent project.

I'm always happy to throw a dollar at podcasts I respect.

Andrea Rene? No ta.

She's the biggest corporate shill going. I remember her on the bonus round a few years back trying to defend Microsofts actions about used games.

What's the point of this? There isn't anything wrong with these tweets.

Also if you're going to throw the "corporate shill" tag around. Then you might as well apply that to anyone and everyone that has access to the industry.

Nice!
Since this doesn't appear to be a full-time thing, what's Alexa doing these days? I always enjoyed her appearances on giantbomb.
I follow her on Twitter. She's with some company called VRV now, which appears to be a cable-style bundling of premium web content under a single fee. (You pay a set fee every month, and get premium access to multiple sites). Believe they work with Rooster Teeth & Crunchyroll.

This is bothering me more than it should, but how should I be reading the name? I feel like I'm missing something, because every time I say it, it just feels wrong.

I'm not joking, we are flooded with all-men gaming groups like Giant Bomb or Kinda Funny. Women NEED a voice in gaming to disown men of their sick control over the industry.

Sounds like you need to donate more than 10 bucks then, unless you're sexist or racist too.

I don't see what's complicated about it... But there's a video in the OP where they say the name of the site out loud within the first 10 seconds.

I feel like they're taking Austin Walker's shtick but I can't tell. I mean it's not really a copyright or anything but it is weird when Austin has been the only person I hear "what's good?" from in any real capacity.

I see, thanks!

I'm glad this is happening. More diverse voices in gaming is great. As a black man I listen to a lot of young white guys talk about games. It's never been a problem for me at all, but it just something that I've noticed. Good luck to them!

I honestly think that it is sexist and borderline racist if more people didn't support this. Here are four intelligent, smart, and passionate women who know gaming as well as your average Greg Miller or Brad Shoemaker. I donated $10 to support our oppressed women in gaming.

Hold on. So if i'm not interested in their content, and therefor don't want to give them my money, i'm sexist and a bit racist? Cool, didn't know that about myself. Thanks.

OT: I've liked what i've seen from Andrea Rene, so i'll give it a shot. I barely watch podcasts anymore though, so not sure if i'll stick around.

So, asking as a non-native speaker, "what's good?" basically means what's up, right?

Huh? "What's good?" is a pretty common expression in the states, at the very least.

I'm at work, so I can't watch it. I don't know what is bothering me so much either, but it just really got under my skin. Must be one of those days.

I don't really do the whole patreon thing if the main content ends up being available for free (albeit delayed) but I'll definitely give them a listen/view.

Maybe. Andrea Renee has a thing about not being able to make a great case for why she likes something that doesn't sound like a PR sheet. Not sure about the other ladies but I'm down if it's good.

I'll check the podcast. I'm really glad they don't time-lock it or something like that. A delayed podcast is the worst.

Only one i recognize is Andrea Rene. I thought she was great on the awesome Weekend confirmed podcast, will give it a listen on Friday.

Might support need to see some content first though.
Have these people worked together before?

I'm not sure any of them have worked together before but I think they've all been friends for quite a while and have done PAX panels and the like before. (Andrea, Alexa, & Brittany were all on this panel at PAX East this year: Panel Link)

Oh CockHammer, .....

OT, ill give this a listen.

I don't understand needing money for podcasts. Not just a swipe at this show, but others who ask for donations to do it. There's really nothing expensive about doing a round table chat show

This is great! I'm a big fan of Andrea Rene, it'll be great to hear her on a regular podcast. Alexa is great too. I know who Steimer is, but have never watched/listened to any of her stuff. For awhile I followed Britney, but her style/personality was a bit too gonzo for my personal tastes.

Overall though, really excited for this, can't wait to check out the podcast.

I don't know these people too well other than Alexa, who's awesome. I'll definitely check out the show, though I don't know if I have room in my life for another videogame podcast. Still, it's a cool idea!

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Ignoring the weird idea that NOT donating money to random strangers on the internet is somehow bigoted, how is it racist not supporting 4 white women?

Pretty sure that poster just making fun of "sjws", don't put too much thought into it

On topic, will definitely check out the first podcast! Cool to see more people going this route

I liked Andrea Rene whenever she was on Weekend Confirmed. Probably won't donate but if it's free and legal to view the final output, I'll give it some support. I always thought she was funny and seemed more like a normal person I'd see in the real world than a lot of the other cast.

They mention in the video that they're not all based in the same city (so it's not a round table show, and doing it that way on even an occasional basis would require money), and that the Patreon isn't really for the podcast but for additional content on top of the podcast.

I don't know why they need $2k a month to add video to the podcast but I haven't looked very hard into their plans yet.

This is great though, I love the idea of an all-female Bombcast style podcast and I feel like it could break up the feeling of sameness of a lot of the big video gaming podcasts that are out there.

Agreed, I'll be supporting this as soon as I get back to the office.

I think GB still needs more diversity but Austin and now they added a lady to GB East, are great first steps. Her name escapes me right now, but she loves Katamari so I'm all for her.
