Now that Persona 5 isn't niche perhaps Atlus won't be so lazy with the next one and update the structure and fix issues they've ignored since Persona 3.

Fuck no. Now that it's a mainstream success I want more of this formula. More confidants/S-Links, more highschool hijinxs, more Personas!

Eh? 2 of those games are re-releases with added visuals and performance. BC is a great feature to have and i've taken advantage of it multiple times. But not having it isn't hindering any consoles performance.

Not having it is taking away resources from other uses when the game dev re-release them and pretend they are brand new games. backward compatible is essentially free passive income for those companies who doesnt want to remaster their game.

I have to imagine Activision and Treyarch are ecstatic and at the same time trying to figure out what they did right with that game to make it chart again in 2017.

GTA V, Black Ops 2 and Kingdom Hearts charting there are indications that people do buy and play old games, and there's no excuse to not have backward compatibility on consoles.

Activision look at the number 1 at the chart and think, BC is a mistake.

Always more than one way to look at a situation

If you are in Phil Spencer's camp then yes games as service model works well if you ignore the top 3, as majority of the games dominating that list are the more mp focused online games, especially on the Xbox platform.

But then if you are in the sp camp and look at Persona or Zelda or even Horizon, they are successful, maybe they won't mint money a year later but as of right now they are successful in terms of critics and players alike. They have sold well and push console sales as proven by Zelda. This is something outside of Microsoft's philosophy but then again they want to focus on their comfort zone which is online multiplayer games. Always has been and I doubt they will ever get out of that position.

Not wrong either way

  • Surprised about NES Classic selling more than PS4 and XB1.
  • Very glad P5 did so well!
  • Switch is a hit, no doubts about it, we're looking at another PS4/Wii right now (IMO)
  • GTAV. I have no more words to describe how it insane it's legs are.

All in all, looks like a very positive month with everything up :)

Really great to see Persona 5 up there with the all time big ones. Even if it doesn't have any legs, it can be seen as a success already. :)

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Really happy about Persona 5.

I just finished it a few minutes ago and its a phenomenal experience.

Very happy to be wrong about Persona 5. Did not think it would open that strong in NA. Reestablishes my faith in the NA consumer base a tad.

And I say this has someone who has yet to play a Persona game even though I own a few on the Vita lol

I just checked and does anybody find it weird that ME:A charted higher than Horizon on both months but Horizon still sold more than it overall? When Sony/MS includes digital sales, is it only for the month or do they retroactively add to the previous months?

So everything was under 450k or so? Was actually expecting a bit more from Persona, although it's a single platform. Then again it may have done better on the digital side.

I simply don't understand BLOPS 2, I simply don't understand.

It's a great game, but charting again the way it has seems absolutely insane to me.

Yes Persona5!

Also LOL at BLOPS II charting. People who told me for years that BC doesn't matter:

Have digital sales numbers been retroactively fitted to Horizon for the year or did they only get April's digital sales numbers?

Minecraft has sold 122 million copies as of February.

And I'm sure Tetris has sold four or five times that.

Also I'm so bitter that the Wii U didn't achieve the success that the Switch is. Bah!

That being said I'm looking forward to another generation of Nintendo success. It brings out so much salt in people.

There have been so many ways to play and buy Tetris since the 80's, that I wouldn't be surprised if it's sold close to a billion units.

Seeing as Xbox numbers include digital, even if it couldn't be discussed by NPD for reasons, it would be interesting to know if XPA titles have above average digital splits, and how exclusives for both platforms perform on the digital side.

Edit: Bottom of the page *cries*
