The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT3| Your Free Time is Badly Damaged

Just picked this up for the Switch and am kinda ambivalent on it so far. There's not a whole lot of incentive to fight in the overworld considering how fragile your weapons are. There also doesn't seem to be a good way to equip bows outside of the menu unless I'm missing something. I'm enjoying my time with it but parts of the design are very simple and dull.

At the beginning of the game, IIRC it said something about how you were going to be able to use amiibos later on but you couldn't at the beginning. Right? At what point can you use them? Or can you always use them?

Also, I'm playing on WiiU with WiiU pro controller. That thing doesn't have a NFC reader right? So I'm thinking I have to use the gamepad to scan the amiibos?

You get more weapons when you kill enemies. The degradation isn't an issue because there is a constant supply of new often better weapons.

And you can equip bows by holding down aim bow button and hitting the right direction button. You can swap arrows using the left direction button. The game does explain this.

No need to hold down the aim bow button I think, as long as you press it once to draw the bow then you can use the directions buttons to change bows.

After finding more than 1/3 of the korok seeds, I realized that some are locked behind horse obstacle courses. Huh. Time to go back through the main path I guess.

I'm not a fan of the tree seeds that are located within forests. Rocks on the top of trees and acorns in tree hollows are fine rewards when there is a reason to seek out that spot (if they reside on an extra large tree, or a tree that's placed slightly away from the main body of the forest). When they are in a tree identical to all the others surrounding it, it doesn't feel like a compelling discovery. You might happen to approach in just the right direction to find them. Otherwise you search each individual tree and hope you haven't overlooked the one small spot where something might be hiding. That's no fun.

I haven't played the game in about 10 days.

Next time I boot up, I'm going to run from Gerudo Town --> Akkala Ancient Tech Lab with the following conditions:

1- on foot
2- no teleporting to any shrines or towers
3- map turned off
4- no pausing to look at the map
5- no paragliding from tall mountains/structures/etc. (looking around from these is allowed)

Tunesmith

formerly "chigiri"
I just beat Ganon.

"80 or more hours" played.

Apparently, 34.5% completion.

Haha.

Somehow I feel more accomplished and fulfilled after this than most other games I've done to 100%. I did all shrines, beasts, all gear, most quests and 170ish seeds.

Now I can finally check out some of those insane speed runs since they won't spoil it for me anymore.

You are right, unless you don't have a bow equipped. Which happens if your bow breaks.
Or have a two handed weapon equipped it seems. If your bow broke or if you have a two hand weapon and hit ZR then link does this "where is it?" Animation.

I know you can use the directional buttons to swap bows when you have a bow equipped. I tried it again just now and if you hit left or right directional buttons during his weird animation then it lets you swap.

It works but it's weird and kinda unintuitive.

Learn not to value your weapons, when they're about to break, just throw them at enemies and pick up something new off the ground.

Wow... Amiibo use kinda breaks the game doesn't it?

Slight spoiler about Great Plateau objectives
When the game begins on the Great Plateau, I realized at some point I had to get spicy herbs and raw meat to be able to cook them to get the anti-cold attributes of the cooked dish. So I found the herbs and went to the forest on the great plateau to hunt, then came back to the old man's house to prepare the dish. Then using what I was able to prepare, I was barely able to get through the two shrines located in the cold region of the great plateau. It was difficult but I found that part of the game to be great and the survival aspects of the game really shone.

Then in my first few hours after the Great plateau when I was exploring on my way to the next objective, I actually died a few times fighting those goblin things because at first your character is really weak and some monsters take a long time to take down. The limited durability and attack power of the weapons you have coupled with the difficulty to obtain healing items makes you wonder if every enemy encounter you come across is worth getting into. It's actually really well balanced and, again, the survival nature of the game really stands out.

However, after about an hour of amiibo use, I have more food and weapons then I know what to do with. I think I just won't use amiibos from now on. I'll save them for a second playthrough or maybe at the end game when I don't have much left to do.

Oh, actually, the one that gives you the horse. (smash Link?) I guess it's ok to use.

So, do you guys use them?

Uhhh. Seems like you missed
the anti cold sweater you get in the plateau.

Is there a list anywhere that says how many koroks can be found for each named area? I don't want exact locations, I just want a way to know when I've found them all so I don't keep needlessly wasting time.

About that.
I remember the old man mentioning it, also that he'll give it to you if you give him the recipe. I figured out how to make them but I didn't know how to give him the recipe. I'll have to go back at some point.

Yeah that was really helpful with the collection sideq in ALBW, shame they didn't include it when there is such a ludicrous number of koroks.

Wait, what? Tell me more.
I found one early on that required shooting ten or so targets in a destroyed village, along what looked like a horseback archery course. A korok balloon appeared after i did so. I figured it was a unique puzzle and never thought about using the horse to find others. I've noticed as I've played small horse-jump barriers strewn around the landscape, and I've jumped a few of them, but never in sequence. Last night I knocked a bokoblin rider off his horse and nabbed the horse to get away from a white rider arrowing me, and on the way out I happened to jump three barriers in sequence. After the third, a korok appeared.

Question: does leveling up a full set of armor to the max unlock another bonus? I know you get a bonus from leveling up some sets up to level 2. But is there another bonus for max level armor?

Don't treasure chests count towards the completion percentage? Have you found and emptied them all? I hear there are tons of them all over the map, many deviously hidden.

Friend just sent me this message:

Which had me laughing my ass off. I'm glad I don't have the urge to 100% this game.

Im only missing locations. I found like 3 more and that bumped my percentage to 99.58.
Chests dont count. Thank goodness.

Finally got my tv hooked up in the basement (moved into fiancées house a while ago and wanted to beat the game on my big screen, needed some electrical work done to add an outlet). Hadn't played in a long time, since a week or two before MK8. Beat the boss twice tonight, once right away and then again after getting my final memory. I had saved right near the memory I was missing (#18) weeks ago and forgot I was by it when I booted up tonight haha.
Ending boss wasn't great, final form was kinda boring...fairly cool looking I guess but nothing like beating Ocarina two decades ago. However, the first 40 or so hours (wandering everywhere, filling the map, seeing a dragon for the first time etc...) were by far the greates single player hours of my gaming life. Just spectacular. Slowed down a bit after the map was filled and such, but still some magic here and there.

Stayed up too late again. At 401 korok seeds. Finally picked up the Hylian shield. I don't know that I would ever have needed it, but it's nice to have. I only use my shields to parry, so they don't incur damage. In my 140th hour, I'm using the same shield I picked up in my 10th. But now at least I know I won't have to worry much about my supply breaking.

Really liking the puzzles in this game, specially in the main world. It makes unlocking towers much more enjoyable. In fact I am no rush to advance the story.

Im at about 90+ hours with still 4 region unexplored. I have 90 shrines and about 250 seeds.

At this point I never fight overworld "regular" enemies unless there is no choice. I do enjoy fighting Lynels and Talus'.

Hands down my favorite part of the game are the shrines. Both discovering them and completing them. I love shrine quests and I love finding shrines. That is the best part for sure.

Good lord. Two hundred hours. Two hundred hours of play and I had no idea that horse-based Korok puzzles were a thing.

Oh wow. Thanks. That would've taken me a long time to figure out.

I didn't earn the shirt initially, and went back to the great plateau a bit later, and
the shirt is just laying on a table in the cabin.

I did the cold part by eating food to stay alive long enough to get to the shrine and back, heh.

AFAIK, weapons: yes. Arrows: no.

When you exit the the 3D map, you'll respawn in front of the castle.

3. does the game provide any hint where mei is? from the quest "the wife washed away" iirc

Yes. There's someone telling you pretty much the location.

Hey guys

I'm ready to fight Gannon but I'm not sure if I want to or if it's safe to do so.

Without spoiling it, what happens after the Battle ? Game over ? Can I fight him again ? Should I wait ?

Tell me about it. And just last night I found another unique puzzle. No shooting targets, no flowers, no lifting rocks, no races... just lifting a tree branch out of an unusual and hidden place. One I had passed through dozens of times before.

Outro and the game ends. It "tags" your save as the one where you defeated the boss and this activates some minimal addtional NPC interaction in the game. But you can't "save" post boss fight.

You'll load the game just before the boss fight again. You won't be locked out of anything, e.g. the end boss fight itself, after finishing the story.

Thanks, so you think it's best to beat it now? Since it unlocks a few things? I can always fight him again anytime without reproductions or loosing out right?

No idea what "I'm ready to fight Gannon" means to you, but the more you complete the game and the better your equipment is, the easier the boss fight will get. Your choice whether you prefer the challenge or want to just walk through the boss. ;-)

Yes, it's completely save to beat it far as I know.

"Downside" is that after reloading the safe, the game world hasn't developed, as the boss still lives. You unfortunately don't get to explore a post boss Hyrule.

Link doesnt just become stronger as the game progresses, Ganon also becomes weaker, removing full sections of the boss fight. If you go to ganon with max equipment but no divine beasts beaten the battle is longer, you even have a boss rush!

The quest text does indeed give you a hint, and tracking her down will give you an opportunity to find some other secrets along the way. But given where the quest starts, you might be surprised where she ends up.

In case you get tired of looking, she's
on the island in Lake Hylia.

That sucks. I stumbled on to that section in Hyrule Castle before I attempted any divine beasts and thought that mini boss rush was pretty cool.

After 119 hours I have finally completed the game to my standard. Pretty somber moment at the end as the journey is finally over. It was a joy for most of those 119 hours. Rushing Hyrule Castle at the end was seriously epic! Made me remember why I love this game so much.

There was a moment where it did become tedious exploring so I just stopped looking for Korok seeds. I also cheesed it a bit and looked up how to do the last few side quest and last few Shrines. Just don't want this game hanging over my head when I go away for work for the next two weeks.

Really disliked the snow regions in this game as was probably one of the moments that made this game feel like a drag. I hated not being able to see due to snow and even when I finally got the snow boots I still just did not enjoy it.

I look forward to the story based DLC. I feel empty that I do not have this game to play anymore even though there is still so much to do. I got 324 Korok seeds but trying to find another 400 is not appealing. I also dont want to grind to upgrade armour but we will see. Hope the second DLC is great and I look forward to the next Zelda. Will be hard to top thats for sure.

Alright! I found a video detailing all the map locations. I was missing 2 minigames, 3 ruins and 2 bridges.
I finally have a 100% completion rate and of course nothing happens.

Lastly, I think I 100% completed this game. I have nothing else to play on my switch so yeah.

No amiibos though so Im missing a couple of armor sets and horse briddles/saddles.

I dont think I want them.

This took nearly 300 hours. Like the completionist said....do not recommend. Star fragments are a pain, koroks are a pain. Certain side quests are a pain

Lastly, Paya already has an art following. Yup, her birth mark is in the middle of her left butt cheek

Yea, if you do the beasts you'll make the fight easier. Of course you can kill him, then do the beasts if you wanted.
Oh, I somehow misunderstood that you'd have to fight the Blight Ganons in a boss rush as a part of the final battle if you go there too early. Sorry.

That's how it work. Any unbeaten divine beast remaining will be part of the final battle. That's the point of the whole design with
the rays pointing at the castle
.

And by the way, there's no "too early" point after the plateau. Do things whenever you feel like it.
