They are the developers behind Hitman, Kane & Lynch and Mini Ninjas.

The news comes after the announcement that Square Enix is pulling out their investment in the studio earlier this month:

After putting out the best Hitman game in recent memory and one of the best games of last year. Shit.

Good luck to those laid off.

I suppose this was inevitable given the Squenix announcement. If IO really is working on Season 2, they might not need the entire support staff now that the engine has been created and is stable.

Hope everyone impacted lands on their feet.

Hope every single person manages to land on their feet. The games they've made have been terrific and they all deserve a good working environment to flex their talent.

Paradox just opened a studio in malmo across the pond, so hopefully people will land safely on their feet.

This is what you get for making the best game of 2016. This industry is seriously fucked up. Best of luck to everyone affected, they're incredibly talented.

Also, fuck you Square Enix.

I am starting to really doubt if season 2 will happen at all. It's a rumor after all and one that hasn't been confirmed yet sadly.

Dammit...

So who owns the Hitman franchise?

Sad news either way, but I can't see it moving forward now matter who though..

I think it was expected. They had around 200 employees and that's a lot even for a studio under a big publisher.

Sad to hear it, I was really looking forward to more Hitman. Maybe the lack of manpower may make them be more creative, less is more?

This is always sad but after the fantastic Hitman game they did is even sadder.

Hopefully everyone lands on their feet.
