Monster Hunter XX coming to Switch

Okay real talk I keep buying Monster Hunter games but I sort of bounced off of Generations because...I think I'm too good at them now? The struggle of working through the learning curve is gone now. I started Generations and was dispatching fights through the ranks in 15 minutes or less out of the gate, and it was hard to want to keep working my way up. Anyone else run into this?

Generations monsters just die too fast regardless of skill. That plus your knowledge of previous fames = game is easy until you fight the deviants.

Honestly, I feel like MH4U is a lot more newbie friendly than MHX/XX is, but this is going to be the first console release since MH3U, so you might have an easier time overall with a more traditional controller.

I bought the Switch Pro Controller pretty much on Day 1, and it's been my go-to for Zelda BotW and MK8 Deluxe. I'll watch some YouTube vids of MHXX to see if it's something I'd like.

Well to be fair this could also qualify as a test game.

It's not a test. Cap com know where the audience is and wants to migrate them from the 3DS -> Switch, before they release the next mainline title.

There's no way this will be Japan exclusive. It'd be nuts. Kind of expect them to continue the "Ultimate" naming scheme for the western release. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate or Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate HD.

Is it gonna be called Monster Hunter Generations 2 or Monster Hunter Generations Plus in the west?

Maybe "New!" Monster Hunter Generations?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Please let this be the last ride for the PS2/Wii/3DS visuals.

PLEASE.

But its the type of test game you'd actually want like RE4 on Wii or Splinter Cell, AC3 and Zombi U on Wii U. Its either a new IP or a popular one that people want to spend money on that is a fair test of the system's potential to move software. You don't want shit like what EA did to their sports line on Wii.

Guess a western announcement will be at E3. Wonder if they will do a dual release for 3ds/switch in the west.

I wouldn't be surprised, but if they do wind up just releasing the Switch, I do hope that they have a save transfer feature figured out from the core MHX/MHG title on 3DS to that system.

Well shit, guess I gotta buy a Switch once this comes out.

Never played a Monster Hunter game. Is this a good time to "jump in"?
Sure, but you might have to wait a long time. Without a date in Japan yet, I'm guessing it's going to be a while before this makes it to the West. In the meantime, MH4U is pretty cheap I think and might be the ideal game to start with since it has the most fleshed out single-player story. Any of the more recent games are fine though.

Probably why Capcom USA has held off on saying anything

they were waiting for the switch version to be revealed so they could release both simultaneously

Yooo!
Is this one good?
This may be the first Monster Hunter game I play...

It's an update to Monster Hunter Generations, which is already one of the most polished games in the series.

In fact, Generations' only real flaw was the fact that it was on 3DS, so...

Played Monster Hunter X on a Gen 1 3DS and it was a horrible experience. Excited to get this and give it a shot with a Pro Controller.

If I can transfer my MHGen save to it, then I'll get it. If not I refuse to replay it as MHGen has the slowest and perhaps the worst starting-midway of any MH game.

Its got a bonkers amount of content but from the comment above I'm not alone in finding it a bit easy. You won't find it easy if its your first one but the initial challenge was a big part of why I got into 3U in the first place

Hopefully if this comes out in the west there's a way to transfer 3DS save data from Generations to XX switch version. I don't want to lose the hundreds of hours I put into the game lol.

I was honestly thinking about not picking this up on the 3DS even thought I love 4U and enjoyed X. I am going to get this on switch and it will be awesome.
