I still don't see where that part of the rumour is actually from. It's not actually what the dude said in the original leak or even in that thread. How are people sure it's even from the leaker and what's the source of it.

Thanks, but i cant really see the relation to being western. Seems more to try to change the formula, in the same principle that they did with MHXX.

Okay, but when something like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest exists. That would make me question that.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Mystic_Quest

Although designed by one of Square's development teams in Japan, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was specifically geared for the U.S. market. At the time, console role-playing games were not a major genre in North America; Square thus attempted to broaden the genre's appeal through Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.[3]

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was first released in North America in 1992 and marketed as a "simplified role-playing game...designed for the entry-level player"[2] in an attempt to broaden the genre's appeal.[3] The game's presentation and battle system is broadly similar to that of the main series, but it differed in its inclusion of action-adventure game elements.

Sure, i think its a possibility that they're trying to make the game more "easy" to broaden the appeal, making it more accessible. That i agree with :) I just dont think that this is specifically aimed toward the west, in belief that western gamers in general arent able to play/enjoy more complex games.

You wouldn't be able to verify that without him personally doing it as they're not actually viewable in the vg boards. Though looking at it and since it's the day right after it's likely the same guy.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Thought it was crazy at first..but the more i think about it, the Capcom x Sony for MH5 makes sense.

The deal was closed in 2015 - 3DS was on his way out and who knows when/if Switch would be a success. Sony and Capcom worked together for SFV, again for RE7 with Sony getting the VR Mode exclusive.

Capcom is struggling and need a breakout worldwide hit on consoles or either a big hit on mobile. Sony is on top now and if Sony is serious about pushing MH - i can see why Capcom would agree to it.

So yeah its probably happening....and the XX Switch announcement is pre-damage control because with the way Switch is selling everyone would ask why MH5 is skipping Switch.

#TeamREAL

....i think MH5 would need some kind of essential VR Support for Sony to be willing to push it like we are expecting too. This could be a VR systemseller.

Maybe we need some numbers for this discussion of expanding MH

What would be a good western performance to show the growth Capcom wants from MH?
I say 1 million LTD in NPD/NA would be the jumping off point.

That..... does not sound a lot when MH4G hit 1.4 mil outside of jpn too with much smaller budget too.

Didn't wait a second, heh? Tbh, that's Capcom's channel, but still. Really unusual that it was announced so early after vanilla release, so amusing they're already promoting it like that. I expect MHXX 3DS sales to plummet in the upcoming weeks.

Maya-san is reporting stronger sales than expected for the "remakes" Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 (PS4) and Ultra Street Fighter II (NSW).

100k FW, 1m LTD. Believe!

Yeah, no.

They put out a TVCM for Tri G as soon as that was announced too, three months before launch.... wait a minute...

It still doesn't make sense for Sony to fund a "westernized" MH though. SIE doesn't need it. It'd be akin to Nintendo funding Persona 6 and having it be western-focused. Like, what's the point? I can totally get behind the idea of Sony paying for a traditional MH title, but not a "westernized" one. And I absolutely get why Capcom would want a MH title that appeals more to consumers outside Japan....but I still don't see what Sony gains from that. They already own the west.

But hey, I'm sure crazier things have happened and I definitely won't be surprised to see a mainline MH appear on PS4 in some form

March: The Legend of Zelda
April: Mario Kart
May: Minecraft
June: Arms
July: Splatoon 2
August: Monster Hunter XX
September: Dragon Quest X

That's a pretty decent game each month. The lineup is definitely coming together now.

It all makes sense now.

Monster Hunter 5 is coming to PS4.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if that happened but stuff like MH Stories Amiibos, MHX being announced in a Nintendo Direct and the recent announcements of MHXX Switch and MH Stories for the west lead me to believe they are still tight as hell with Nintendo.

So potentially there are 7 games on the Switch that can sell over 1 million units in Japan for 2017 depending on when exactly DQXI launches.

Also anyone have a cumulative total for Snipperclips so far?

Why would Sony need to pay for a western focused title to get made for the PS4?
If Capcom wants to make a western focused MH, whatever that means, it has to go to PS4 by default and then add any other platforms they feel are worth the cost too.
Sony doesn't need MH to grow in the west, they have a million bigger titles. Capcom is the one looking for a way to save their badly managed company.

That's
- BOTW
- MK8D
- MHXX
- DQXI
- Splatoon 2
- What other two?

Nintendo Topics post mentions MHXX Switch will be showcased at the final of the MH Championships 2017 on June 25th. I was expecting them to announce something there, but I guess they preferred to do it before E3. More or less confirms western announcement at E3, I think.

Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, Miitopia, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World and Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon!! were announced in September 1.

Monster Hunter comes out on Friday, the day Switch goes for worldwide release.

Damn, why didn't I notice that earlier... Maybe because it was 5AM at the time. But yeah, I think it's safe to assume MHXX Switch is getting worldwide release, or Friday release doesn't make any sense.

Dragon Quest X is far from a notable release, Minecraft retail in holidays will be a big game.

Regarding Switch shipments if Nintendo has planned things well after Arms there will be bigger shipments that will get big in July and August.

Yeah that aspect of the rumor doesn't make sense. If anything Sony needs a traditional monster hunter for increased presence in Japan, if they even still care, and if the Japanese audience wants that on a home console.

It's definitely not on par with the other releases but it's still one of the more notable third party games announced for Switch. In the near future only MHXX is bigger out of unreleased games.

Why such pessimism for SMO?

Iirc even Galaxy didn't cross 1 million in Japan (or barely after a while?). 3D Mario games aren't setting japan charts of fire.

Then again 3D Land did cross that mark (not by much iirc but I could be wrong). Portability will probably help. Even with that, it's probably a november or december release so even if it sells well I'm not sure if there is time for 1 million in 2017 :^p

3D Land was closer 2m than 1m. I think it actually crossed 2m. Galaxy 1 and 2 also comfortably crossed 1m.

Both Galaxy crossed 1m and 3D Land crossed 2m. Even 3D World crossed half million easily.

Actually, both Galaxy games sold over 1m units in Japan, and have surprisingly close sales (1 025 664 vs 1 046 696 units)

https://sites.google.com/site/gamedatalibrary/game-search

So 1m for Mario Odyssey is possible, especially with what Chris1964 has been talking about regarding Zelda / Mario revivals on Switch when discussing BotW sales.

It's about what I said when the rumor surfaced.
The deal was done before MH X was successful and Capcom at that time thought "oh sh*t too late" or something and they are stuck with the contrat to make a MH "appealing" to the western audience.
Expecting it to be more action focused, with simplified controls and easier to learn.

Anyway if true we'll probably hear at least something at E3 since it would be a Sony partnership.

There are a more games... you missed titles like Skyrim, Fire Emblem Warriors, Disgaea, NBA2k18, Fate Extella. That all (probably) release(d) in this timeframe. And after that the Oct-Dec games.

I don't think MHXX is gonna sell how much some people in this thread think it's gonna sell...

I think it will be closer to 500k than a million. Probably actually lower than 500k.

The previous HD versions did a few hundred thousand but they were A) More popular games overall and B) Not on a portable device.

EDIT:

Fire Emblem Warriors is the only relevant game for Japan in that list though.

In the west Skyrim might be pretty big, depends on the quality and marketing.

All of them are just filler titles at best

Sony needs neither a Japanese MonHun, nor a Western MonHun. If Sony cared at all for Japan they would and could have done a dozen other things with a lot less risk, cost and generally would have bothered with nurturing a better climate before spitting out millions of yen for MonHun. A Western-oriented MonHun wouldn't be but a pea in the ocean of the huge AAA that not only Sony already has, but many of them also are already co-marketed by them.

We also need to take into account how we are pretty much on the second half of the generation where exclusivity deals like these make a lot less sense.

Capcom is such a clusterfuck, though, I could see them doing anything, like, literally anything.

We talk for a late port that comes out 5 months later from when it should.

Like Arms anything over 500k in Japan should be considered a success. If it gets close to 1m it will be a amazing result.

This + they already had exclusive agreements For SFV and RE7. If VR is indeed part of it I could see why Sony went for it. Hell they are paying big bucks to get Kojimas next game and who know when this is coming.

MH is the only big 3rdParty titles that isn't on PS4 - I can see why Sony would want to check that box. If you see how much money they just make from PSN every year... They are in a position to justify such a deal. Especially since it's the last real push they could get IP wise for their performance in Japan.

It sounds crazy now... But in 2015, maybe Nintendo just like Sony with the Vita thought it would be obvious that Capcom would continue MH5 on their next portable... Well surprise lol.

They didn't have an 'exclusive' fighting game, so they signed SFV. They wanted a bigger game to push VR, RE7 was the perfect choice because of the genre. Do they need another action game? They have them 'all'.

Don't get me wrong, I won't be all that surprised if it happens. I'm simply having a hard time understanding the reasoning based specifically on that 4chan rumor. That's where the whole "westernized" idea comes from. If they're simply evolving the formula in general, that makes more sense.

because they can use the monster hunter brand to sell games and consoles in Japan, selling more console in Japan will lock down the exclusivity of lots of Japanese 3rd party games for them and making the playstation brand relevant again in Japan

Yeah all of this makes little sense for either party involved. But like others have already said, never count out Capcom when it comes to baffling business decisions. It is stupid enough and self-destructive enough of an idea that I could see Capcom truley believing in it.

They just confirmed that dqxi started as a ps4-only game and that they added the 3ds version in a second moment

I can see Capcom going for a PS4 deal especially with Sony pushing for it
