Dauntless - Forging A Legend trailer

Link

Game is looking really good. First time seeing the snow area and the Hubtown of Ramsgate.

FAQ
Dauntless is a co-op, action RPG. Discover a shattered world, forge powerful weapons, and hunt the ferocious behemoths threatening our survival.
Dauntless will be coming PC in 2017.

WHEN CAN I PLAY DAUNTLESS?
We are currently operating the Dauntless Tech Alpha.
Once the Tech Alpha has shown us that the game is stable, we will open the Dauntless Founder's Alpha to players who have purchased Founder's Packs.
After this test, we will go into the Dauntless Closed Beta this summer.
Dauntless will then go into Open Beta this Fall.

WILL DAUNTLESS BE COMING TO CONSOLES?
We're not currently planning a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch version of Dauntless — but never say never!

WILL DAUNTLESS SUPPORT CONTROLLERS?
Yes. Dauntless will natively support many controllers, including the Xbox 360 and Xbox One gamepads.

WHAT ARE THE SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS FOR DAUNTLESS?
Minimum Spec:
Card: 660Ti (DX11)
CPU: i5 SandyBridge
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 DX11 Support
Target Performance: 720p, Low Settings
Recommended Spec:
Card: GTX 970 (DX11)
CPU: i7 Haswell
RAM: 8GB
OS: Windows 10
Target Performance: 1080p, High Settings

WILL THERE BE DAUNTLESS SERVERS OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA?
Yes. We're comitted to creating a great experience for slayers around the world, including Europe, Asia, and Australia. To this end, we'll have servers to support players wherever they are.

WHAT IS RAMSGATE
Ramsgate is the social center where you meet fellow slayers, enhance and craft gear, select missions, and interact with other slayers. It's a living, breathing place that we know you'll love spending time in.

WILL DAUNTLESS HAVE A STORY/LORE?
Yes! Absolutely! The Shattered Isles is a living, breathing place with a history and a future that you will help shape!

WILL I MAKE MY OWN CHARACTER?
Yes! You'll start be creating your Slayer from scratch. From there, you'll change their abilities by crafting weapons and armour.

DOES DAUNTLESS HAVE CLASSES?
Dauntless does not feature a traditional "class system.
Instead, each weapon will have its own unique attacks, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
We want players to be able to approach each situation dynamically by changing their loadout without locking anyone into a rigid role.

WILL DAUNTLESS HAVE CRAFTING?
Yes! You can read the first crafting blog for a broad idea of how crafting will work. More details to come.

WHAT WEAPONS AND ARMOUR WILL BE AVAILABLE?
We're still planning to announce many more weapons and armor options, but you can get your first taste in this blog post.

WILL THERE BE A RANGED WEAPON?
Yes. We are planning to have at least one ranged weapon.

WILL THERE BE ONE CONTINUOUS WORLD, OR WILL DAUNTLESS USE INSTANCES?
You will form your group of slayers in Ramsgate and then head off to one of the many, many islands. The islands are pretty good in size and the terrain is varied. To give you an idea of size, the flare seen in the trailer is used to signal your location to other slayers if you split up.

ARE ISLANDS SPLIT INTO SMALLER AREAS?
Islands are "seamless". You will not need to load between areas.

WILL THERE BE FRIENDLY FIRE?
No.

WILL THERE BE SMALLER BEHEMOTHS ON ISLANDS?
While we are working on multi-behemoth encounters, we are not planning to have smaller or lesser version of behemoths roaming around. However, there are smaller creatures (like rams!) roaming around that you can interact with.

WILL THERE BE NAMED BEHEMOTHS?
There are, in fact, rumours of especially terrifying and deadly behemoths that carry their own legends...

WILL THERE BE LARGER BEHEMOTHS FOR PARTIES LARGER THAN FOUR?
We're committed to making making 4-player encounters as fun as we can. We make explore larger encounters in the future, but four slayers is the maximum at launch.

WILL DAUNTLESS HAVE PVP?
Dauntless will not have PvP at launch, but we are looking into these elements for the future. Let us know what you think!

WILL DAUNTLESS HAVE GUILDS/CLANS?
Yes! You can learn more about how guilds will function in this blog post.

WILL THERE BE A LEADERBOARD OR SIMILAR FEATURE?
Some of our favorite memories in gaming involve cooperative competition and we want to bring those experiences to Dauntless. We're experimenting with the best way to do that. If it's leaderboards, then we will pursue that.

WILL THERE BE TRADING?
No. For many reasons, the least of which is that we really want players to OWN their own victories. Much like we're against "pay for power", we want players' presentation to reflect their experiences.

WILL THERE BE PETS?
We are not planning on having combat-enabled pets at launch.

WILL THERE BE COOKING?
Probably not at launch. We have a lot of dedicated cooks and gourmands in the studio, though, so don't be surprised if making tasty treats becomes a part of Dauntless in the future.

CAN ARMOUR BE MODIFIED OR TWEAKED?
Slayers can tweak what their armour and equipment does with different armour sets — mixing and matching abilities.. We'll have more information about this soon!

WILL DAUNTLESS FEATURE ARTS/MOUNTING?
We want to nail down the core of Dauntless combat before moving onto systems like mounting, etc. Combat will be fast, visceral, and satisfying -- and there will be ways to differentiate your combat style with different weapon special attacks.

WILL THERE BE NEW WEAPONS AND BEHEMOTHS AFTER LAUNCH?
Yes, One of the great things about being a free to play game is that we will continue to add more content, including weapons, after the game is released without needing to wait for large "expansion packs"

Have they dropped their plan on putting better / faster drops behind a paywall yet?

Edit: I see their audio is still weak af. Monster cries, general SFX, weapon impact all sound weak and muffled.

Hm. Something that'll pop up during the PC Gaming Show? About time they announce the start of their Closed Beta, since they've been selling Founders Packs for a while now.

The booster increases the amount of materials drop but it doesn't increase the drop rate. These aren't going anywhere but it remains to be how much they effect the game for people who don't use them. I've never used them in Warframe and I didn't really have a problem with it.

Currently in closed technical alpha. I guess it depends how well that goes before they announce founders alpha which last for a week then closed beta with last a few more. But they have stuck with open beta being in the fall.

Bigger amount or higher drop rate is pretty much the same, the multiplier is just moved to post drop. 100% more rathalos plates when you get plates as a drop or twice the chance to get rathalos plates means you get twice the plates over time for both scenarios.

New article on PC gamer

Although there aren't many hard details, the video gives a general overview of what progression in Dauntless may look like. It starts out with a fight against Skraev, who seems very similar to Shrike (an owlbear behemoth we'd seen previously) but with an icy theme and new attacks. Unable to take that behemoth down, the players in the trailer instead go fight a fire behemoth named Embermane, before returning to Ramsgate to craft special armor and weapons from defeating it. With Embermane's fire equipment in tow, they return to fight Skraev with an elemental advantage.

Yes. People who pay will be able to craft stuff faster. What makes it or breaks it is how enjoyable the game is as a free player who chooses not to put any money in.

I'm very confident that MH fans and newcomers to the genre will really enjoy this game. The studio behind it has paid very close attention to a lot of details. There's some video from GDC where they talk about it. The passion is there.

I'm optimistic. But it just lacks... something. Soul? I don't know. Sound effects also sound like they lack impact.

I want to be excited for this but something about the monster animations puts me off. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Monster Hunter but I expect that owlbear thing to ruffle it's feathers, puff up and so on but it seems to pretty much just move it's main skeleton. Compared to say, Malfestio it seems extremely static.

The sound and animation you are seeing now are from pre-alpha. And that's real pre-alpha, not the "pre-alpha" footage that EA or some big company will show you of a heavily polished near-finished game. Many final sound effects and animations are missing. The team has heard all of this a hundred times before, and it's all going to be much better by launch. Footage like this should only give you a general idea of what to expect, but is by no means a good measurement of the final quality.

That's good to hear. I thought the game was further along.

The animation and hit impacts are completely weightless, which dramatically hurts the over all style of combat they are going for.

I really hope this game is good. It's exactly the kind of game I've wanted for some time, but it'll all come down to the gameplay and the way progression/customization works, for me.

Open beta this fall. You're not wrong.

AFAIK they haven't put down a firm date for open beta. I think they might be hoping for fall, but at this point, there is still tech alpha, closed alpha, closed beta, then open beta. I believe they are still in tech alpha. At least I haven't read anything on reddit about them doing anything else right now. The website says it'll be out this year, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for a late 2017 release. I think they will take their time to make it as polished as possible for a feb-may release next year.

Judging from the video those look better than the reveal trailer but yeah still not that good.

They don't show anything new: new bosses or even smaller creatures, just the same old 3 or 4 creatures.

This game is going to live or die by the content, I don't think that many people are going to grind the same Owl-bear or a drake more than a few times.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and play it until I know I don't like it, game has potential
to expand the style of game to a new audience and bring something fresh to veteran hunters.

Still fiending for this game something fierce.

Became a huge fan of the hunting genre in recent years and been pretty psyched to see a western dev finally take a crack at it.

I saw some gameplay a few months ago and I can describe it as lacking.

Few months ago it wasn't even in technical alpha. Pax was really really early and I've heard mostly good about it's gameplay from people who've had their hands on it. Time will tell but I'm optimistic.

Game looks like fun and I've always wanted to play a MH style game but never have got to since I've been away from Nintendo's systems/handhelds for a while.

The animations need some more work (which hopefully they'll do since it's still early on).

I wish they would take inspiration from Dragon's Dogma in terms of combat. Let use climb onto huge monsters, give us more abilities that impact how a monster behaves, like being able to use a bow or something to tie a monster down or have things to trip them up, with various buffs/debuffs that change depending on the monster you are fighting and your attacks.

the weapons don't have enough weight
that's 1 thing MH weapons got it right

In truth a lot of games have way too much weight to weapons and animations that make them look like they weigh a ton.

Speaking historically for example, many weapons were actually quite light. Swords for example, even two handers, were generally 3lbs or less.

Though this game isn't historical in the least so yeah, some probably would look more correct if they had more weight behind them.

I agree in a way. Mon Hun and PSO (if you even want to include PSO there... kinda the same but not really) will always be my favorite hunting games but... that said, if this gains traction I could be interested. Not only that but if they add PvP and have cool weapons/armor and my friends play then I'd quickly jump in as well.

Have been looking for a good monster hunting game for PC for quite some time, so I really want to like this game. But no trailer I've seen has really clicked with me unfortunately. Hopefully the finished game will convince me.

It looks like the unholy offspring of Malfesito and Lagombi.

I signed up for the alpha but man, the monster designs, and animations are seriously lacking, they look like clay doh creations and move so stiffly. Audio is quite bad too.

Those drop boosters aren't encouraging either.

Game looks cool.

Lots of exciting MMOs in the pipeline this year:)

I can understand some of the complaints but this is an indie dev and a new franchise. Monster Hunter has been around for a very long time. This game is doing some things I really like. Having an MMO style hub city that holds a lot of players, Dedicated servers, Once you go into your instanced hunt area it's one large seamless land mass. No loading zones. Being a free to play game it will get more weapons, behemoths and updates regularly as time goes on. The game will improve. This is a market Capcom has completely ignored and seems has no interest in capturing so I am pulling for this game and these devs cause it's something I actually want to play.
