In the meeting at the White House today with Republican Congressional leaders, President Trump spent some time talking up his latest idea for the border wall. According to 3 people with direct knowledge of the meeting, Trump floated the idea that the wall could be covered in solar panels and the electricity generated used to pay for the cost.

Trump said his vision was a wall 40 feet to 50 feet high and covered with solar panels so they'd be "beautiful structures," the people said. The President said that most walls you hear about are 14 feet or 15 feet tall but this would be nothing like those walls. Trump told the lawmakers they could talk about the solar-paneled wall as long as they said it was his idea. One person cautioned that the President wasn't presenting the solar-paneled wall as the definite solution.

A 50ft wall, covfefed in solar panels - what a tremendous thing it would be.

The President said that most walls you hear about are 14 feet or 15 feet tall

Great material for some observational comedy right there.

Imagine having to sit through that and then having to humor the dumbass? I don't think I would be able to hold back my laughter.

I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow he wanted to have a pyramid built in his honor. That mentally challenged mf'er...

Wait.

Wait are you saying Mexico isn't going to pay for the wall?

Honestly I say do it. Seeing something that monumentally stupid covered in solar panels would be fantastic.

Before entering the thread I honestly thought I was about to read a pitch for solar panels to power the wall.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the glare be terrible?

Least of the problems with this, though.

Yep, that sounds like how he talks. Completely and entirely.

But if it pays fot itself, what about Mexico? I bet they already started saving up, they're going to be really disappointed.

So a 40 - 50 foot border wall covered in solar panels.

How much does 250 million - 320 million square feet of solar panels cost?

That's like my 8 year old self designing a car.

"It's gonna have solar panels and satellite dishes and fucking canons and its gonna seat 9 people."

I wonder how much energy a 50ft wall running a country's entire border could generate?

They'll probably build it out of thick, shiny, crude, solidified hydrocarbons.

In the northern hemisphere, the panels would have to face south, putting them on the Mexican side of the wall.

Something tells me they wouldn't last very long.

Trump, that wall will never be built. Just give up.

That said, it's not the worst idea, but it 's clearly a reaction to the negative attention he got after leaving the Paris Accord. Plus, a hundred solar farms would be cheaper and give us more energy then a 1000 mile wall with solar panels.

And we could tilt the panels to blind Mexicans trying to cross over! Brilliant!
That's the funny thing, the panels would have to be on the south side, so would there be a fence and then the wall? Otherwise those panels are getting painted and generally beat to fuck on a constant basis.

"Guys... list..guys listen... what if... listen guys... what if the wall is made of... ice cream?! Everybody likes ice cream, right?!"

As a person who just got solar panels on my roof, holy shit would this be expensive. Especially since you'd have to factor in all the lines connecting it to a grid or, even worse, batteries.

The up-front cost would be massive. Also, a wall doesn't really face, you know, UP, which is where the majority of sunlight is. There's also a question about direction and whether the wall would be facing the optimal direction to actually generate significant energy.

A wall to keep those bad hombres away from THE WALL.

Brilliant!
