Turf. It won't get enough sunlight to do natural.

I think they are delaying reporting because they'll have to get the Dome suitable for hosting the CFA Kickoff games. They are getting that plan sorted out before they say anything, because they know it'll be the first question asked.

United aren't playing in either dome this season, I don't think.

Didn't they already rip up the interior of the Dome?

And United will be playing in Mercedes-Benz this year, unless you're implying they won't due to delays or something, which doesn't make sense unless it's a catastrophic delay.

edit:
That won't go down well with the MLS crowd. We get shit on a lot here in Vancouver for using a turf field

It's already not going down well with the soccer crowd.

It's still crazy to me that it's literally right across the street from the Georgia Dome.

It's not even across the street, they stand right next to each other. Georgia Dome was to be imploded and replaced with parking. They are really on a tight schedule right now.

There's a chance the CFA games aren't played in there. If that's not a catastrophic delay, I'm not sure what is.

At this point they seem up against the clock. Seems unlikely it will be ready.

Also, this remains the ugliest stadium I have seen. Megatron's Butthole is right.

This actually isn't that uncommon. Think about the space needed for these facilities and the limited options available in large cities. You also have to factor in that there is a base level of infrastructure already built into the areas where the last stadium was - public transportation, restaurants, space for parking, etc.

Cool story about this - the Fleetcenter in Boston (now TD Garden) and the old Garden were built literally 3 feet away from each other. You'd never believe the old Garden would've fit there to see it now. While the Fleetcenter was being built, they would give tours, and at one point in the tour you could actually reach out and touch the Garden from inside the new stadium.

I don't know about other stadiums but in this case, it makes the ridiculousness of them wanting a new stadium all the more apparent because the Georgia Dome still looks brand new, then you see that monstrosity right next door. I know why owners always say that they need new stadiums but this one sticks out to me.

Obviously I'm talking about the United games when referencing a "catastrophic delay", whose schedule stretches in to late October.

Yes, that's what I am referencing as well. The plan was to play the second half schedule there, but if they have to significantly move off the July 30 date, they may not play any matches there this season. There's six matches scheduled beyond the absolute target date of 9/2, five (!) of those in an 18 day period.

I wouldn't say Georgia Dome looks brand new. It isn't decrepit, but when compared to more recent stadiums, it needed a massive renovation or replacement. Back in the day I felt the same about the Astrodome. I was wondering why they needed a new stadium. Then I walked into it's replacement and was in complete awe.

Ehh, the Dome is showing its age.
A good old fashioned renovation probably could have gone a long way in modernizing the interior and keeping it active for a decade plus, but its prospects for drawing big-time events has dwindled and it had been a known quantity that higher ups in the sporting organization and in city gov't were gunning for another Super Bowl along with other major events. This state was willing to tack on a hotel surcharge to fundraise for it, because the revenue a new stadium brings in is way too enticing for a state as tax-money-starved as Georgia.

Huh, I wonder if Mercedes-Benz will pull their sponsorship of the Louisiana Superdome once this is operational.

Mercedes said they had no plans to pull out. The deal runs through 2021. Publicly, Blank and Benson are all smiles about it (no surprise). They claim the deal could be extended, but we'll see. Mercedes-Benz USA is now headquartered in Atlanta so letting the Dome deal run out without extension may make the most sense.

I hate the way Reliant Stadium looks from the outside.

Yet fellow GT fans tell me not to worry. The GT Tenn kickoff game will go on as scheduled.

I just don't see how this all doesn't end up in a massive cluster fuck!

So what I said would probably happen...is starting to happen.

All of the August matches for United have either been moved to Bobby Dodd or are pending rescheduling.

The third Falcons preseason game is now the first public event, and there's no guarantee that date will be met either.

This shit isn't gonna be done on time for meaningful games.

I hope The Stans knows what we all know. He's a smart dude. Better be on the horn today with Tenn cooking up a backup plan.

Restaurant-Aerial_resize.jpg

Concentrics—the team behind Atlanta's One Midtown Kitchen, Two Urban Licks, Nexto, Tap, and Parish—is opening a full-service restaurant at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Called Molly B's, a nod to Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank's mother, Molly Blank, it will open in the stadium's 100-level concourse on August 26.

”My mother was a strong, values-driven woman who was an incredible influence on my life," says Blank, owner and chairman of AMB Group.

The ”Southern-inspired chophouse" will have its own entry by the main doors of the stadium. ”It's right there where all the glass is, where that big falcon statue is," says Bob Amick, owner of Concentrics. ”So you've got incredible views downtown, looking out the window. Then, if you look the other way, you'll the see open end of the stadium with the field just below, and the restaurant is open-air. We float in the middle with views in both directions."

Michael Bertozzi, executive chef of Two Urban Licks, will helm the kitchen. Lunch dishes range from fried chicken wings with spicy honey ($10) to a shaved smoked beef sandwich ($12) to a chopped romaine and iceberg lettuce salad with artichoke hearts, chickpeas, and roasted beets ($12).

”We kept thinking about how people eat when they tailgate," says Amick. ”A Southern chophouse sort of came as a way to reflect that while also giving us a little play on variety." Plus, he added, ”Putting a health food restaurant in the middle of a football stadium doesn't exactly make sense."

Molly B's will also operate as a private club with no more than 150 members. Here's how that works: Members can access the restaurant two and a half hours before games start, and they have exclusive access at game time, during which they're served special menu items and complimentary drinks. (There will even be special ”action stations" such as a raw bar and prime rib carving area for Falcons fans and a whole-hog station serving smoked heritage pork for Atlanta United fans. True to chophouse form, there will also be a make-your-own sundae bar.) For Falcons games, that lasts through the end of the first quarter. The space closes during the second quarter to re-open at halftime, when it will offer small plates to both members and non-members. For Atlanta United matches, the membership-only experience lasts until the first kick. Molly B's will stay open for two hours after each Falcons and United game, during which any ticket holders can dine, but members will have a fast-entry lane so they don't have to wait in line for post-game hangs.

The restaurant will open to the public for lunch on non-game days. Amick says his goal is to eventually offer dinner service, too.

They need to finish this damn thing so U2 can announce a show there in October!

Are they expecting it to be done before the NFL season kicks off?

First event will be a Falcons preseason game against Arizona on August 26th.

They've got the support thingies on for the Mercedes-Benz logo, so it's coming along nicely. And on an off note; unlike so many other stadiums with corporate names, this one actually looks like it should be named Mercedes-Benz.

Looks more to me like it should be called Toyota Prius stadium. They are both ugly.

oh yay another stadium.

meanwhile we closing homeless centers left and right and our highways are falling to pieces. but at least yuppies have a new spot to go watch people run into each other.

Damn man, you post a lot of BS. Step away from the computer a little.

Hoping I'll get to see the Stadium Sept. 2 for the Alabama/Florida State game. Transformers anus look aside, I think the inside looks gorgeous.
